Developing Virtual Tour Content for the Inside and Outside of a Building using Drones and Matterport

  • The global impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on education has resulted in the near-complete closure of schools, early childhood education and care (ECEC) facilities, universities, and colleges. To help the educational system with social distancing during this pandemic, in this paper the creation of a simple 3D virtual tour will be of a great contribution. This web cyber tour will be program with JavaScript programming language. The development of this web cyber tour is to help the students and staffs to have access to the university infrastructure at a faraway distance during this difficult moment of the pandemic. The drone and matterport are the two devices used in the realization of this website tour. As a result, Users will be able to view a 3D model of the university building (drone) as well as a real-time tour of its inside (matterport) before uploading the model for real-time display by the help of this website tour. Since the users can enjoy the 3D model of the university infrastructure with all angles at a far distance through the website, it will solve the problem of Covid-19 infection in the university. It will also provide students who cannot be present on-site, with detailed information about the campus.

  • Satellite and aerial images are very useful means to monitor ecological and environmental situation. Nowadays more and more officials at Ministry of Environment in Korea need to access and use these image data through networks like internet or intranet. However it is very hard to manage and service these image data through internet or intranet, because of its size problem. In this paper very large image data service system for Ministry of Environment is constructed on web environment using image compression and web based image processing technology. Through this system, not only can officials in Ministry of Environment access and use all the image data but also can achieve several image processing effects on web environment. Moreover officials can retrieve attribute information from vector GIS data that are also integrated with the system.

  • Since 20th century, the rapid growth in economy development and ill-advisable construction of infrastructure which causing injury of nature has generated an El Nino phenomenon problems. For this reason, establishment of heritage preservation plan is being required to prevent damages of important cultural assets from natural disaster. In this study, we obtained both 3D-dxf and VRML-wrl(which support 3D image) files from stone pagodas(stone cultural heritages) by using the digital photogrammetric program. Then database are formed by these two files with other attribute informations. And we made existing cultural heritages management information data format to be unified using JAVA, HTML, and Cosmo Player. Thus, we could construct the web-server for Cultural Heritages Management Information System to contribute not only effective management but also ease of use for expert or amateur user in using of cultural assets informations. And, in virtual reality system, we could make texture presented like as actual texture by using the VRML program.

  • Three-dimensional (3D) object retrieval from user-drawn sketch queries is one of the important research issues in the areas of pattern recognition and computer graphics for simulation, visualization, and Computer Aided Design. The performance of content-based 3D object retrieval system depends on the availability of effective descriptors and similarity measures for this kind of data. In this paper, we present a sketch-based 3D object retrieval system by extracting a hybrid edge descriptor which is robust against rotation and translation. The experimental results which are based on HTML5 and WebGL show that proposed sketch-based 3D object retrieval method is very efficient to search and order the 3D objects according to user's intention.

Generalization by LoD and Coordinate Transformation in On-the-demand Web Mapping (웹환경에서 LoD와 좌표변형에 의한 지도일반화)

  • The purpose of map generalization is a method of map making to transmit the concise cartographic representation and geographic meaning. New generalization algorithm has been developed to be applied in the digital environments by the development of computer cartography. This study aims to look into possibilities of the multiscale mapping by generalization in application with the coordinate transformation and LoD(level of detail) in the web cartography. A method of the coordinate transformation is to improve a transmission of spatial data. Lod is a method which is making web map with selection spatial data by zoom level of users. Layers for test constructed contour line, stream network, the name of a place, a summit of mountain, and administrative office. The generalization was applied to zoom levels by scale for the linear and polygonal features using XML-Based scalable vector graphics(SVG). Resultantly, storage capacity of data was minimized 41% from 9.76mb to 4.08mb in SVG. Generalization of LoD was applied to map elements by stages of the zoom level. In the first stages of zoom level, the main name of places and administrative office, higher order of stream channels, main summit of mountain was represented, and become increase numbers of map elements in the higher levels. Results of this study can help to improve esthetic map and data minimization in web cartography, and also need to make an efforts to research an algorithm on the map generalization over the web.

Quality Control of Web Information Service: the case of government web site (정보서비스 평가연구: 국내 행정부처 Web 정보사례)

  • Evaluating information quality of government Web service, applying quality measurement methods for web - database was conducted. This approach intended to control the quality of information service by indicating the problems and weak points in terms of retrieval, use of easiness, and user support, and by suggesting the guidelines for improvement. There were two main results to most of the investigation. The first one indicated that web information service of eighty-two percent of domestic government sites was not good enough (less than middle score). and only eight percent of them got higher score than middle point. The second result was that user support aspect was the worst part that we need to consider future course of action for service improvement. More specific guidelines were summarized at the discussion section.

  • In order to improve user accessibility and interactivity, system scalability, service speed, and a non-standard internet web environment, we developed a Web-based geovisualization system of oceanographic information using HTML5 and dynamic particles. In particular, oceanographic and meteorological data generated from a satellite remote sensing and radar measurement and a 3-dimensioanl numerical model, has the characteristics of a heterogeneous large-capacity multi-dimensional continuous spatial and temporal variability, based on geographic information. Considering those attributes, we applied dynamic particles represent the spatial and temporal variations of vector type oceanographic data. HTML5, WebGL, Canvas, D3, and Leaflet map libraries were also applied to handle various multimedia data, graphics, map services, and location-based service as well as to implement multidimensional spatial and statistical analyses such as a UV chart.

A Research on realistic 3D web service for traditional pagodas (전통탑에 대한 실감형 3D 웹서비스에 관한 연구)

  • 한국의 전통탑에 대한 정보는 주로 2D 형식의 사진이나 동영상 자료를 통해 제공되고 있다. 또한, 특정 지역 및 시대에 따라 분류하여 제공하는 웹사이트도 일부 존재한다. 본 논문에서는 우리나라의 다양한 시대별 탑에 대한 서비스를 현실적으로 체험할 수 있도록 웹 기반으로 구현했다. Aframe 언어를 활용하여 웹상에서 그래픽을 표현하고, 서버는 아파치를 이용하여 서비스를 제공했다. 더불어 가상현실를 이용해 실감형서비스를 제공하기 위해 웹상에서 가상현실을 지원다. 이를 통해 사용자들은 웹상에서 가상현실과 360도 서비스를 동시에 이용할 수 있다.
