In many applications, piezoelectric motor has been used in the areas where excellent controllability, fine position resolution are required or magnetic field noise should be eliminated. However the piezoelectric motor has two major demerits. One is difficulty in maintaining vibration amplitude constantly with temperature rise and wear, and the other is heat generation induced by dielectric and mechanical loss. In this thesis, piezoelectric motor to overcome these problems is proposed. And proposed piezoelectric motor is operated using momentum exchange between bimorph and rotor. To maximize steady state velocity and static torque of proposed motor, the guideline is established using two bimorph models. Then the guideline is partially proved by comparison between simulation and experiment. There was no heat generation in the few hours of experiments.
A geometric contact conditions of wheel/rail affect the dynamic behavior of rolling stock. Mechanical force acted on the wheel/rail causes excessive wear and increase the maintenance cost. In this study, we have studied the dynamic behavior of the urban railway vehicle with new and worn wheel by VAMPIRE program. And we have tested the accelerations of wheelset on the conventional line. The results of simulation are compared with the measuring data of field test. It shows that the acceleration of worn wheel is greater than the acceleration of new wheel in the straight track line but on the contrary, the acceleration of new wheel is greater than the acceleration of worn wheel in curved track. That results explain that the new wheel is worn out greater than the worn wheel in curved track line and need to be maintained more seriously when running in curved track line.
Magnetic levitation system with the advantages of non-contact, no friction and no wear can satisfy the requirement of high precision and high speed positioning. In this paper, magnetic levitation positioning stage which mainly consists of planar coil and HALBACH permanent magnet array and its control and driving system are designed. Magnetic levitation system is a highly nonlinear and strongly coupled complex system and its control performance can be influenced by the uncertainty and external disturbance. So exact feedback linearization method is used to realize exact linearization and decoupling, and a strategy of sliding mode control based on disturbance observer is proposed to compensate the uncertainty and external disturbance. Detailed proofs of observer's convergence property and system stability are derived. Both the simulation and experiment results verify the effectiveness of sliding mode control algorithm based on disturbance observer.
Surface roughness plays a significant role in friction, wear, and lubrication in machine components. Most engineering surfaces have tile nogaussian height distrubution. So, in this study, elastic-plastic contact simulations are conducted for not only gaussian surfaces but also nongaussian surfaces. Nongaussian rough surface considering the kurtosis is generated numerically. The contact simulation model takes into account the plastic deformation behaviors of asperities by setting a celing on their contact pressure at material hardness value. It will be shown that the performace variables such as real contact area fraction, plastic area fraction and average gap are sensitive to the characteristics of surface geometry according to kurtosis.
Recently increasing application of flash memory in mobile and ubiquitous related devices is due to its non-volatility, fast response time, shock resistance and low power consumption. Following this trend, SSD(Solid State Disk) using multiple flash chips, instead of hard-drive based storage system, started to widely used for its advantageous features. However, flash memory based storage subsystem should resolve the performance bottleneck for writing in perspective of speed and lifetime according to its disadvantageous physical property. In order to provide tangible performance, solutions are studied in aspect of reclaiming of invalid regions by decreasing the number of erasures and distributing the erasures uniformly over the whole memory space as much as possible. In this paper, we study flash memory recycling algorithms with multiple management units and demonstrate that the proposed algorithm provides feasible performance. The proposed method utilizes the partitions of the memory space by utilizing threshold values and reconfigures the management units if necessary. The performance of the proposed policies is evaluated through a number of simulation based experiments.
The purpose of this study was to suggest torso patterns that fit the three main body shapes of elderly obese women. To reduce time, costs, and also the trial and error needed to make patterns, the CLO program for 3D test wear was employed. Three virtual models for aged obese women were use, with the YUKA system used to produce torso patterns. 3D simulation of test wear and corrections was done to design optimal torso patterns. The results were as follows: First, for the three models of obese women's body shapes as realized by CLO 3D, Type 1 is lower-body obesity shapes, Type 2 is abdominal obesity shapes, and Type 3 is whole-body obesity shapes. Second, to design the study patterns, actual measurement values, back waist length and waist to hip length, were used. The armhole depth (B/4-1.5), front interscye (B/6+2.3), front neck width (B/12-0.5), front neck depth (B/12+0.5), front waist measurement (W/4+ 1.5+D), front hip measurement (H/4+2+0.5), and back hip measurement (H/4+3-0.5) were calculated using formulas. Third, according to the results of test-wearing the study patterns, reduced front neck width and depth improved the neck fit and reduced armhole depth bettered loose or plunging armhole girth and also reduced the sagging of bust c.. Also, tight sidesfrom aprotruded waist and abdomen improved with the increase of surpluses in the back waist and also back and front hip c. The exterior was enhanced by displacement of back and front darts, which distributed surpluses better.
A technique based on the finite element method (FEM) is used in the simulation of metal cutting process. This offers the advantages of the prediction of the cutting force, the stresses, the temperature, the tool wear, and optimization of the cutting condition, the tool shape and the residual stress of the surface. However, the accuracy and reliability of prediction depend on the flow stress of the workpiece. There are various models which describe the relationship between the flow stress and the strain. The Johnson-Cook model is a well-known material model capable of doing this. Low-alloy steel is developed for a dry storage container for used nuclear fuel. Related to this, a process analysis of the plastic machining capability is necessary. For a plastic processing analysis of machining or forging, there are five parameters that must be input into the Johnson-Cook model in this paper. These are (1) the determination of the strain-hardening modulus and the strain hardening exponent through a room-temperature tensile test, (2) the determination of the thermal softening exponent through a high-temperature tensile test, (3) the determination of the cutting forces through an orthogonal cutting test at various cutting speeds, (4) the determination of the strain-rate hardening modulus comparing the orthogonal cutting test results with FEM results. (5) Finally, to validate the Johnson-Cook material parameters, a comparison of the room-temperature tensile test result with a quasi-static simulation using LS-Dyna is necessary.
Conditioning is a process involving pad surface scraping by a moving metallic disk that is electrodeposited with diamond abrasives. It is an indispensable process in chemical-mechanical planarization, which regulates the pad roughness by removing the surface residues. Additionally, conditioning maintains the material removal rates and increases the pad lifetime. As the conditioning continues, the pad profile becomes unevenly to be deformed, which causes poor polishing quality. Simulation calculates the density at which the diamond abrasives on the conditioner scratch the unit area on the pad. It can predict the profile deformation through the control of conditioner dwell time. Previously, this effect of the diamond shape on conditioning has been investigated with regard to microscopic areas, such as surface roughness, rather than global pad-profile deformation. In this study, the effect of diamond shape on the pad profile is evaluated by comparing the simulated and experimental conditioning using two conditioners: a) random-shaped abrasive conditioner (RSC) and b) uniform-shaped abrasive conditioner (USC). Consequently, it is confirmed that the USC is incapable of controlling the pad profile, which is consistent with the simulation results.
