Fracture Behavior of Silicon Nitride-silicon Carbide-boron Nitride Multi-layer Composites with Different Layer Thickness

  • Multi-layer composites consisting of silicon nitride, silicon nitride-silicon carbide and boron nitride-alumina layers were prepared fly stacking the corresponding ceramic tapes. The composites demonstrated self-diagnostic capability and non-catastrophic failure behavior. The composites consisting of many thin layers exhibited high strength and stepwise increase of the electrical resistance during the flexure test. The strength of the composite with too thick silicon nitride layers was low and the electrical resistance was abruptly increased to the detection limit of the digital multi-meter during the test. An extensive crack branching was observed in the weak (BN + Al$_2$O$_3$)layer.

Determination of Parathion Metabolite, p-Nitrophenol in Urine of Parathion Factory Workers

  • Parathion is an organophosphate pesticide being legally applied for the purpose of agriculture and is being manufactured in Korea. A gas chromatography/mass spectrometric method was developed for the determination of parathion urinary metabolite, p-nitrophenol. p-Nitrophenol was extracted from weak acidic urine, and then measured by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (selected ion monitoring). The recovery of pnitrophenol in the overall procedure was 88.2%. The detection limit of the assay was 1.0 $\mu$ g/L based upon assayed urine of 2.0 mL. The method was applied to the determination of p-nitrophenol in urine of workers of a parathion industry. Spot urines of workers of a parathion industry were sampled at the end of shift and pnitrophenol was analyzed using above developed method. p-Nitrophenol could be detected in all of the urine samples at concentrations varying from 3.0 to 681 $\mu$ g/L.

  • 본 연구에서는 대향류 유동장에서 두 예혼합화염의 후류 상호작용을 Fig.1 과 같은 계를 이용하여 일반적인 Lewis수에 대하여 접합 점근 전개 방법으로 해석하 여, 강한 상호작용을 나타내는 구간의 변화가 확산선호도의 영향임을 규명하고, 화염 스트레치가 상호 작용하는 예혼합화염의 소화특성에 미치는 영향을 파악하였다.

  • Japanese railroad companies continued growing by developing diversification based on the railroad enterprise. However, the diversification strategy of railroad companies reached the management limit in the 1990s. Under the long-term economic depression, Aging and a decrease in the birthrate progressed and passenger transport changed to the downward tendency. Nevertheless, since railroad investment was expanded, business results worsen and price competitiveness with JR East became weak. Futhermore, the business results of a diversification enterprise were bad compared with it of a railroad enterprise. Therefore, group management was thought as important and structural reform was carried out resolutely.

할선강성을 이용한 직접내진설계 (Direct Earthquake Design Using Secant Stiffness)

  • A new earthquake design method performing iterative calculations using secant stiffness was developed. The proposed design method has the advantages of convenience and stability in numerical analysis because it uses elastic analysis. At the same time, the proposed design method can accurately estimate the strength and ductility demands on the members because it performs the analysis on the inelastic behavior of structure using iterative calculation. In the present study, the procedure of the proposed design method was established, and a computer program incorporating the proposed method was developed. Design examples using the proposed method were presented, and its advantages were presented by the comparisons with existing design methods using elastic or inelastic analysis. The proposed design method, as an integrated method of analysis and design, can address the earthquake design strategy devised by the engineer, such as ductility limit on each member, the design concept of strong column - weak beam, and etc. Through iterative calculations on the structure preliminarily designed only with member sizing, the strength and ductility demands of each member can be directly calculated so as to satisfy the given design strategy As the result economical and safe design can be achieved.

ON THE PROXIMAL POINT METHOD FOR AN INFINITE FAMILY OF EQUILIBRIUM PROBLEMS IN BANACH SPACES

  • In this paper, we study the convergence analysis of the sequences generated by the proximal point method for an infinite family of pseudo-monotone equilibrium problems in Banach spaces. We first prove the weak convergence of the generated sequence to a common solution of the infinite family of equilibrium problems with summable errors. Then, we show the strong convergence of the generated sequence to a common equilibrium point by some various additional assumptions. We also consider two variants for which we establish the strong convergence without any additional assumption. For both of them, each iteration consists of a proximal step followed by a computationally inexpensive step which ensures the strong convergence of the generated sequence. Also, for this two variants we are able to characterize the strong limit of the sequence: for the first variant it is the solution lying closest to an arbitrarily selected point, and for the second one it is the solution of the problem which lies closest to the initial iterate. Finally, we give a concrete example where the main results can be applied.

Steel Surface Defect Detection using the RetinaNet Detection Model

  • Some surface defects make the weak quality of steel materials. To limit these defects, we advocate a one-stage detector model RetinaNet among diverse detection algorithms in deep learning. There are several backbones in the RetinaNet model. We acknowledged two backbones, which are ResNet50 and VGG19. To validate our model, we compared and analyzed several traditional models, one-stage models like YOLO and SSD models and two-stage models like Faster-RCNN, EDDN, and Xception models, with simulations based on steel individual classes. We also performed the correlation of the time factor between one-stage and two-stage models. Comparative analysis shows that the proposed model achieves excellent results on the dataset of the Northeastern University surface defect detection dataset. We would like to work on different backbones to check the efficiency of the model for real world, increasing the datasets through augmentation and focus on improving our limitation.

포항 심부 지열 시추공의 안정성 분석 연구 (Stability Analysis for the Pohang Deep Geothermal Borehole)

  • 2006년 시추되었으며 굴착 시 연약층 붕괴 및 공경수축 등의 잦은 시추공 불안정을 보인 포항 심부 지열 시추공(BH-4, 최종심도: 2,383m)의 안정성에 대해 분석하였다. 안정성 분석을 위해 현장응력과 암석강도를 고려하여 최적이 수압력을 산정한 결과 최적이수압력의 상한은 연직응력으로, 하한은 붕괴압력 또는 공극수압으로 나타났으며, 암종에 따라 매우 다른 범위를 보였다. 시추공 최상부의 반고결 이암 구간은 이수압력의 조절만으로는 공의 붕괴를 방지할 수 없는 조건으로 나타났으며 그 하부의 일부 암종(염기성 암맥, 결정질 응회암)에서는 붕괴압력이 정수압보다 $50{\sim}60%$ 높게 나타났다. 즉 이러한 구간에서는 정수압에 해당하는 이수밀도(0.98 g/$cm^3$)를 사용 시 과도한 공벽 붕괴가 발생할 수 있기 때문에 이수밀도를 1.5 g/$cm^3$ 이상으로 증가시켜 굴착해야 시추공 안정성을 확보할 수 있다.

보 붕괴형 메커니즘을 가지는 강구조 다층골조의 손상분포 (Damage Distribution Rule of Weak Beam Type Multi-Story Steel Frames Influenced by Strength and Stiffness Ratios of Beam and Column)

  • 부재의 내력비, 강성비에 영향을 받는 다층 강구조 골조의 내진성능을 평가하기 위하여 내력비 및 강성비를 설계 파라메타로 하여 동적 비탄성 응답해석을 수행하였다. 해석 결과에 대한 분석을 통하여 내력비와 강성비의 변화폭이 큰 다층골조의 손상분포 예측식을 제안하였다. 본 연구에서 얻어진 결과는 다음과 같이 요약할 수 있다. 1) 보기둥 내력비 및 강성비가 작아질수록 1층의 기둥 주각부에서의 손상집중 현상이 크게 나타났다. 2) 보기둥 내력비 및 강성비를 고려하여 보붕괴형 강구조 다층골조의 손상분포를 예측할 수 있는 식을 제안하였으며, 예측식은 응답해석 결과와 좋은 대응을 보였다. 3) 본 연구에서 제안한 손상분포 예측식은 강접 및 반강접 보붕괴형 강구조 다층골조의 손상분포를 예측할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

Fabrication of field emitters using a filtration-taping-transfer method

  • There have been several methods to fabricate carbon nanotube (CNT) emitters, which include as-grown, spraying, screen-printing, electrophoresis and bonding methods. Unfortunately, these techniques generally suffer from two main problems. One is a weak mechanical adhesion between CNTs and the cathode. The as-grown, spraying and electrophoresis methods show a weak mechanical adhesion between CNTs and the cathodes, which induces CNT emitters pulled out under a high electric field. The other is a severe degradation of the CNT tip due to organic binders used in the fabrication process. The screen-printing method which is widely used to fabricate CNT emitters generally shows a critical degradation of CNT emitters caused by the organic binder. Such kinds of problems induce a short lifetime of the CNT field emitters which may limit their practical applications. Therefore, a robust CNT emitter which has the strong mechanical adhesion and no degradation is still a great challenge. Here, we introduce a simple and effective technique for fabrication of CNT field emitter, namely filtration-taping-transfer method. The CNT emitters fabricated by the filtration-taping-transfer method show the low turn-on electric fields, the high emission current, good uniformity and good stability. The enhanced emission performance of the CNT emitters is mainly attributed to high emission sites on the emitter area, and to good ohmic contact and strong mechanical adhesion between the emitters and cathodes. The CNT emitters using a simple and effective fabrication method can be applied for various field emission applications such as field emission displays, lamps, e-beam sources, and x-ray sources.
