  • A novel nodal method is developed for the two-dimensional multi-group diffusion equations based on the Spectral-Galerkin approach. In this study, the nodal diffusion equations with Robin boundary condition are reformulated in a weak (variational) form, which is then approximated spatially by choosing appropriate basis functions. For the nodal coupling relations between the neighbouring nodes, the continuity conditions of partial currents are utilized. The resulting discrete systems with sparse structured matrices are solved by the Preconditioned Conjugate Gradient Method (PCG) and sweeping technique. The method is validated on two test problems.

  • The $Calder{\acute{o}}n$-Zygmund type estimate is proved for elliptic obstacle problems in bounded non-smooth domains. The problems are related to divergence form nonlinear elliptic equation with measurable nonlinearities. Precisely, nonlinearity $a({\xi},x_1,x^{\prime})$ is assumed to be only measurable in one spatial variable $x_1$ and has locally small BMO semi-norm in the other spatial variables x', uniformly in ${\xi}$ variable. Regarding non-smooth domains, we assume that the boundaries are locally flat in the sense of Reifenberg. We also investigate global regularity in the settings of weighted Orlicz spaces for the weak solutions to the problems considered here.

  • In this paper, a geometrically nonlinear meshfree analysis of 3D various forms of shell structures using the double director shell theory with finite rotations is proposed. This theory is introduced in the present method to remove the shear correction factor and to improve the accuracy of transverse shear stresses with the consideration of rotational degrees of freedom. The present meshfree method is based on the radial point interpolation method (RPIM) which is employed for the construction of shape functions for a set of nodes distributed in a problem domain. Discrete system of geometrically nonlinear equilibrium equations solved with the Newton-Raphson method is obtained by incorporating these interpolations into the weak form. The accuracy of the proposed method is examined by comparing the present results with the accurate ones available in the literature and good agreements are found.

  • In this paper, a uniformly convergent numerical scheme is designed for solving singularly perturbed reaction-diffusion problems. The problem is converted to an equivalent weak form and then a Galerkin finite element method is used on a piecewise uniform Shishkin mesh with linear basis functions. The convergence of the developed scheme is proved and it is shown to be almost fourth order uniformly convergent in the maximum norm. To exhibit the applicability of the scheme, model examples are considered and solved for different values of a singular perturbation parameter ε and mesh elements. The proposed scheme approximates the exact solution very well.

  • Recently, there has been an increasing demand for electric equipment installed on the ground to be installed in an underground space. Accordingly, U-CDS (Underground-Compact Distribution Station) installed in the underground is supplied, and to improve its weak ventilation performance, an Airdam-type structure was applied and the effect was analyzed. As a result, the temperature around the transformer was reduced by up to 9.5 degrees, and the air flow increased by up to 1.17 m/s. Airdam structure can be supplied in the form of various sculptures because it is possible to design freely while maintaining its principle.

  • Recently, positively asymmetric binary pulse amplitude modulation (2PAM) has been proposed to improve the bit error rate (BER) performance of the weak channel gain user, with a tolerable BER loss of the strong channel gain user, for non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA). However, the BER loss of the stronger channel gain user is inevitable in such positively asymmetric 2PAM NOMA scheme. Thus, we propose the negatively asymmetric 2PAM NOMA scheme. First, we derive closed-form expressions for the BERs of the negatively asymmetric 2PAM NOMA. Then, simulations demonstrate that for the stronger channel gain user, the BER of the proposed negatively asymmetric 2PAM NOMA improves, compared to that of the conventional positively asymmetric 2PAM NOMA. Moreover, we also show that for the weaker channel gain user, the BER of the proposed negatively asymmetric 2PAM NOMA is comparable to that of the conventional positively asymmetric 2PAM NOMA, over the power allocation range less than about 10 %.

  • Concrete is a brittle material and weak in tension. Traditionally, web reinforcement in the form of vertical stirrups is used in reinforced concrete (RC) beams to take care of principal stresses that may cause failure when they are subjected to shear stresses. In recent decades, the potential of various types of fibers for improving post-cracking behavior of RC beams and replacing stirrups completely or partially have been studied. It has been shown that the use of steel fibers randomly dispersed and oriented in concrete has a significant potential for enhancing mechanical properties of RC beams. However, the studies on deep steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) beams are limited when compared to those focusing on slender beams. An experimental program consisting of three RC and nine SFRC deep beams without stirrups were conducted in this study. Besides, various models developed for predicting the ultimate shear strength and diagonal cracking strength of SFRC deep beams without stirrups were applied to experimental data obtained from the literature and this study.

  • The Resistance Committee of Korea Towing Tank Conference extended the Cooperative Experimental Study Program(1985)[1] to perform the geosim tests by exchanging the five different scaled Series 60, $C_B=0.60$ models between the participating organizations and 13 sets of resistance data have been obtained. The test results are compared among the participating towing tanks and also with the results given in the report of the Resistance and Flow Com-identify the mittee of 18th ITTC. The form factor of each model is derived by Prohaska's method to investigate its dependency on $R_n$. On the other hand, at each $F_n$, form factors are also derived by Telfer's method to relation between $F_n$ and form factor. For this hull form, form factors show relatively weak dependency on $R_n$ and strong dependency on $F_n$. And it is also found that dependencies on both have a cross relation. It seems that further study should be continued to understand more clearly the physical phenomena involved in this problem.

  • Korea's main manufacturing industries, which have led its economy for the past three decades, are faced with a serious downturn and loss of competitive advantages due to the current economic depression, China's rise, and the drop of oil prices. Korean business firms must adopt the paradigm shift in their value strategies, along with a government-led industrial restructuring in order to gain sustainable competitive advantages. Business firms allocate their limited resources between value creation and value appropriation, however, what effect does strategic emphasis on value creation versus value appropriation have on a business firm's financial performance? This paper empirically addresses this issue by examining the effect of shifts in strategic emphasis on stock return. Furthermore, this study examines appropriate choices of strategic emphasis to gain differential financial performance. The data set used in this regression analysis comes from the KISLINE database of NICE Information Service. The variables that form the basis of this analysis are stock return, ROA, and Strategic Emphasis [(advertising expenditures-R&D expenditures)/assets]. The interactive effect with situational factors regarding the firm and the type of technological environment in which the firm is operating was also analyzed. Our results show that investors acknowledge a shift of strategic emphasis as a sign of stock valuation. In comparison to US, Korean business firms have weak value creation capabilities in high-technology industries, and weak value appropriation capabilities in low-technology industries. This proves Korean firms are fast followers in the global market. Our findings suggest that Korean firms have to adopt a balanced value strategy, nurturing value creation and developing value appropriation for overcoming the current economic downturn and becoming a first mover in the dawn of "Industry 4.0."

  • Presented is a nonlinear constitutive model for progressive tensile fracturing of concrete. The model is incremental, path-dependent, and tensorialy invariant. The total strain tensor is assumed to be a sum of a purely elastic component and an inelastic component. The material is considered to contain weak planes of all directions which characterize the planes of the microcracks. A one-to-one functional dependence is assumed between the normal stress and the normal strain across each of the weak planes. The tangential stiffness of concrete is then derived form the principle of virtual work. The present theory can be applied to loading histories which are nonproportional or during which the principal directions rotate. Good agreement with the available direct tensile test data which cover strain-softening is demonstrated.
