  • This study extracts characteristics of signal by wavelet transform to prove that the Compton scattering, occurred by changed the energy, influenced a picture. We also analyzed the extracted data and evaluated how much the picture of scatter-rays was affected by a change of tube voltage. For this study, we wrote a program with MatLap which is engineering tool and evaluated with the program on variation of scattered-rays due to increased tube voltage. The evaluation result shows both CR and DR have frequency changes of high frequency area by tube voltage variations and it proved that Compton scattering influences the picture. In conclusion, according to this study indicates that DR is more sensitive to radiation with high energy than CR. Therefore, the research on DR detector needs to be advanced as actual condition of clinical setting is being changed to DR circumstance gradually. From the result of this study, we expect that assessment method of the image quality using MatLab Tool becomes the official assessment method and very useful method.

  • The most difficult of implementation PACS is large amount of data. Therefore, PACS needs mass storage, as well as rapid transmission time. Consequently, medical images needs compression when stored in PACS. WT(wavelet transform) was announced by Ingrid Daubechies and Stephane Mallat, WT was methods of signal analysis by a base functions set same as Fourie transform. This paper estimated an efficiency, that experimental medical images compressed by DWT. The result of estimated, we are knows effectiveness that display to remained signal in low frequency region after 4-level DWT form $512{\times}512{\times}2^8$ input images. Compression ratio of images by 4-level DWT was 1:16. It is a high compression ratio, the other side has a problem appears on staircase phenomenon.

  • Structural measurements obtained from accelerometers, strain gauges. and tilt meters at Ieodo ocean research station was analyzed. In the acceleration signals, dynamic characteristics of the station were round by using the measured dynamic responses under different wave attacks and were compared with those by numerical analysis. Data from strain gauges and tilt-meters were also analyzed to identify the present state of dynamic response. Effect of wave height on the dynamic characteristics were investigated. The present results and those which will be measured and analyzed later can be used to identify and to assess the state of the station whether it is health or not.

  • The signal-based acoustic emission (AE) characterization of concrete fracture process utilizing home-programmed AE monitoring system was performed for three kinds of static loading tests (Cubic-splitting, Direct-shear and Pull-out). Each test was carried out to induce a distinct fracture mode of concrete. Apart from monitoring and recording the corresponding fracture process of concrete, various methods were utilized to distinguish the characteristics of detected AE waveform to interpret the information of fracture behavior of AE sources (i.e. micro-cracks of concrete). Further, more signal-based characters of AE in different stages were analyzed and compared in this study. This research focused on the relationship between AE signal characteristics and fracture processes of concrete. Thereafter, the mode of concrete fracture could be represented in terms of AE signal characteristics. By using cement-based piezoelectric composite sensors, the AE signals could be detected and collected with better sensitivity and minimized waveform distortion, which made the characterization of AE during concrete fracture process feasible. The continuous wavelet analysis technique was employed to analyze the wave-front of AE and figure out the frequency region of the P-wave & S-wave. Defined RA (rising amplitude), AF (average frequency) and P-wave & S-wave importance index were also introduced to study the characters of AE from concrete fracture. It was found that the characters of AE signals detected during monitoring could be used as an indication of the cracking behavior of concrete.

  • This paper presents a solution to error avalanche of deciphering where radio noise brings random bit errors in encrypted image data under ubiquitous environment. The image capturing module is to be made comprising data compression and encryption features to reduce data traffic volume and to protect privacy. Block cipher algorithms may experience error avalanche: multiple pixel defects due to single bit error in an encrypted message. The new fault tolerant scheme addresses error avalanche effect exploiting a three-dimensional data shuffling process, which disperses error bits on many frames resulting in sparsely isolated errors. Averaging or majority voting with neighboring pixels can tolerate prominent pixel defects without increase in data volume due to error correction. This scheme has 33% lower data traffic load with respect to the conventional Hamming code based approach.

  • This paper presents a compression method for animated meshes or mesh sequences which have a shared connectivity and geometry streams. Our approach is based on static semi-regular mesh compression algorithm introduced by Khodakovky et al. Our encoding algorithm consists of two stages. First, the proposed technique creates a semi-regular mesh sequence from an input irregular mesh sequence. For semi-regular remeshing of irregular mesh sequences, this paper adapts the MAPS algorithm. However, MAPS cannot directly be performed to the input irregular mesh sequence. Thus, the proposed remesh algorithm revises the MAPS remesher using the clustering information, which classify coherent parts during the animation. The second stage uses wavelet transformation and clustering information to compress geometries of mesh sequences efficiently. The proposed compression algorithm predicts the vertex trajectories using the clustering information and the cluster transformation during the animation and compress the difference other frames from the reference frame in order to reduce the range of 3D position values.

  • In this paper, a new video watermarking algorithm using 3D wavelet transform and position encoding of spread spectrum correlation is proposed as a method for ensuring enough payload in order to protect copyright for video contents. This algorithm provides better robustness than other watermarking methods in bit error and rotation because it uses the position encoding and $4{\times}4$ sample space instead of $1{\times}1$ pixel to express a digit. The evaluation result over 6 video clips shows that the PSNR is over 31dB at strength 11 when histogram is narrow and it satisfies the transparency. Also, it shows the robustness of the proposed watermark algorithm that the BER is 0% to three codecs.

  • Solar variability is widely known to affect the interplanetary space and in turn the Earth's electromagnetical environment on the basis of common periodicities in the solar and geomagnetic activity indices. The goal of this study is twofold. Firstly, we attempt to associate modes by comparing a temporal behavior of the power of geomagnetic activity parameters since it is barely sufficient searching for common peaks with a similar periodicity in order to causally correlate geomagnetic activity parameters. As a result of the wavelet transform analysis we are able to obtain information on the temporal behavior of the power in the velocity of the solar wind, the number density of protons in the solar wind, the AE index, the Dst index, the interplanetary magnetic field, B and its three components of the GSM coordinate system, $B_X$, $B_Y$, $B_Z$. Secondly, we also attempt to search for any signatures of influence on the space environment near the Earth by inner planets orbiting around the Sun. Our main findings are as follows: (1) Parameters we have investigated show periodicities of ~ 27 days, ~ 13.5 days, ~ 9 days. (2) The peaks in the power spectrum of $B_Z$ appear to be split due to an unknown agent. (3) For some modes powers are not present all the time and intervals showing high powers do not always coincide. (4) Noticeable peaks do not emerge at those frequencies corresponding to the synodic and/or sidereal periods of Mercury and Venus, which leads us to conclude that the Earth's space environment is not subject to the shadow of the inner planets as suggested earlier.

  • A digital video watermarking algorithm is proposed that uses HVS and DWT. In this algorithm, each video frame is decomposed into four-level by DWT which reveals the characteristics of the human eyes and watermark is embedded into DWT coefficients using HVS. For robustness, the lowest level subbands which represent the highest frequency component are excluded in watermark embedding step and watermark is embedded into the perceptually significant coefficients (PSCs) of the rest subbands. PSCs of the baseband are selected according to the amplitude of the coefficients and PSCs of the high frequency subbands are selected by successive subband quantization (SSQ). Watermark is embedded into the PSCs of the baseband and high frequency subbands by Weber's law and spatial masking effect, respectively, for the invisibility and robustness. We tested the performance of the proposed algorithm compared with the conventional watermarking algorithm by computer simulation. Experimental results show that the proposed watermarking algorithm produces a better invisibility and robustness than the conventional algorithm.

  • A new broadcasting signal transmission, which can save its channel bandwidth using compressive sensing(CS), is proposed in this paper. A new compression technique, which uses two dimensional discrete wavelet transform technique, is proposed to get high sparsity of multimedia image. A L1 minimization technique based on orthogonal matching pursuit is also introduced in order to reconstruct the compressed multimedia image. The CS enables us to save the channel bandwidth of wired and wireless broadcasting signal because various transmitted data are compressed using it. A $256{\times}256$ gray-scale image with compression rato of 20 %, which is sampled by 10 Gs/s, was transmitted to an optical receiver through 20-km optical transmission and then was reconstructed successfully using L1 minimization (bit error rate of $10^{-12}$ at the received optical power of -12.2 dB).
