Design of the Novel DVB-H Antenna for the Folder-Type Mobile Handheld Terminal

  • We have proposed a novel DVB-H(Digital Video Broadcast for Handheld) antenna for folder-type mobile handheld terminal by using a coupling element, a stub, and an L-type matching circuit. The L-type matching circuit consisting of two chip inductors is used for achieving an improved impedance matching over the DVB-H frequency band ($470{\sim}702\;MHz$). Simulated results showed the stub worked to more knot the lower and upper frequency ends of the input impedance curve. The antenna exhibits a flat gain characteristic from 2 to 2.8 dBi over the DVB-H frequency band. The radiation patterns are a stable Figure-of-eight radiation pattern in the frequency range.

  • In this paper, an ultrasonic level limit sensor with a new structure utilizing the acoustic impedance matching is proposed to be able to check it out a change of water-level. 2 PZT resonators with the same property are bonded directly on the polyethylene plate. One is for transmitter as an ultrasonic transducer, the other one is for receiver. In this case, a polyethylene plate will operate as an acoustic guider to transmit a transverse wave between 2 PZT resonators in air. While in the water, a polyethylene plate having a similar acoustic impedance with the water will be emitted an acoustic energy into the water as a longitudinal wave. According to this mechanism, there was a wide difference of acoustic signal output between underwater and in air. As a summary, it is believed that this proposed level limit sensor could be used as a new one with strong toughness from the external electrical and mechanical noise.

  • 수동 소자를 위한 대표적 구성요소의 하나인 마이크로스트립을 이용하는 소자는 넓은 점유면적으로 인하여 고주파 집적회로의 소형화를 제한하는 중요한 요인이 되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 신호의 진행 방향으로 마이크로스트립 도체를 주기적으로 천공함으로써 slow-wave 효과를 얻는 천공된 마이크로스트립을 제안하고 해석과 실험을 통하여 성능의 우수성을 확인하였다. 천공된 마이크로스트립의 특성 임피던스 정합(50 Ω)과 Q 값 등은 기존의 변조된 폭을 갖는 마이크로스트립보다 향상됨을 관찰하였다. 본 천공된 마이크로스트립은 그 구조의 단순함으로 보다 우수한 Q 값을 얻을 수 있으며 초고주파 소자의 소형화에 매우 효과적으로 이용될 것이다.

Assessment of temperature effect in structural health monitoring with piezoelectric wafer active sensors

  • This paper presents theoretical and experimental evaluation of the structural health monitoring (SHM) capability of piezoelectric wafer active sensors (PWAS) at elevated temperatures. This is important because the technologies for structural sensing and monitoring need to account for the thermal effect and compensate for it. Permanently installed PWAS transducers have been One of the extensively employed sensor technologies for in-situ continuous SHM. In this paper, the electro-mechanical impedance spectroscopy (EMIS) method has been utilized as a dynamic descriptor of PWAS behavior and as a high frequency standing wave local modal technique. Another SHM technology utilizes PWAS as far-field transient transducers to excite and detect guided waves propagating through the structure. This paper first presents how the EMIS method is used to qualify and quantify circular PWAS resonators in an increasing temperature environment up to 230 deg C. The piezoelectric material degradation with temperature was investigated and trends of variation with temperature were deduced from experimental measurements. These effects were introduced in a wave propagation simulation software called Wave Form Revealer (WFR). The thermal effects on the substrate material were also considered. Thus, the changes in the propagating guided wave signal at various temperatures could be simulated. The paper ends with summary and conclusions followed by suggestions for further work.

  • 본 논문에서는 물리적인 환경 변화에 의해 발생될 수 있는 갑작스런 부하단 임피던스의 변화를 정확히 측정할 수 있는 방법을 제시하였다. 부하단 임피던스 측정방법으로 ${\lambda}/4$ 전송선로(Sectioned Transmission Line) 상에서 측정된 전압을 이용하여 임의의 부하단 임피던스를 구하는 수식을 유도하였고, 계산된 수식의 결과 중 유효한 결과 만을 선택하는 부하단 임피던스 결정 알고리즘을 도출하였다. 제안된 임의의 부하단 임피던스 계산 수식과 부하단 임피던스 결정 알고리즘을 다양한 부하단이 적용된 시뮬레이션을 통해 검증하였고, 시뮬레이션 결과를 통해 임의로 설정한 부하단 임피던스를 정확하게 찾아 주는 것을 확인하였다.

확장 탄성 임피던스 역산을 이용한 저류층 물성 예측 (Prediction of Reservoir Properties Using Extended Elastic Impedance Inversion)

  • 확장 탄성 임피던스(extended elastic impedance, EEI)는 입사각에 따른 음향 임피던스(acoustic impedance, AI) 를 일반화한 탄성 임피던스(elastic impedance, EI)를 확장한 개념으로서 다양한 저류암 물성과 대비가 가능한 것으로 알려져 있다. 하지만 EEI 역산을 적용하여 예측한 저류암적 물성이 실제 물성을 얼마나 정확히 예측하는지를 검증한 사례는 거의 없다. 본 연구에서는 EEI 역산 기법을 이용하여 미국 와이오밍주 Teapot Dome 유전의 주요 저류층 중 하나인 Second Wall Creek 사암층의 P파속도($V_p$), S파속도($V_s$), P파속도-S파속도 비($V_p/V_s$), 포아송비(Poisson's ratio)와 같은 속도 물성들을 유추하고 실제 물리검층 자료와 비교하여 EEI 역산 기법의 정확도를 검증했다. 사용된 자료는 Teapot Dome 유전 남부의 3차원 공심점 모음 자료(CDP gather)와 많은 시추공에서 선택된 4개의 시추공 자료이다. $V_s$ 검층자료는 경험식을 통해 $V_p$ 검층자료로부터 계산되었다. 4개의 속도 물성 EEI 예측 %에러는 한 시추공에서의 포아송비를 제외하면 약 5%를 넘지 않는다. 그러나 속도로부터 직접적으로 계산되지 않는 공극률, 감마선 검층값, 밀도와 같은 물성들은 시추공에서의 EEI 역산 분석 결과가 만족스럽지 못하여 전체 자료에 EEI 역산을 적용할 수 없었다. 따라서 속도 물성의 경우 EEI 역산을 적용할 수 있지만 속도로부터 직접 계산이 되지 않는 물성의 경우는 EEI 역산 적용에 신중해야 할 것으로 판단된다.

A Transformer-Matched Millimeter-Wave CMOS Power Amplifier

  • A differential power amplifier operating at millimeter-wave frequencies is demonstrated using a 65-nm CMOS technology. All of the input, output, and inter-stage network are implemented by transformers only, enabling impedance matching with low loss and a wide bandwidth. The millimeter-wave power amplifier exhibits measured small-signal gain exceeding 12.6 dB over a 3-dB bandwidth from 45 to 56 GHz. The output power and PAE are 13 dBm and 11.7%, respectively at 50 GHz.

A Coupled-Line Type Waveguide Bandpass Filter using Normalized Impedance Concept

  • In this paper, a coupled-line type waveguide bandpass filter is newly proposed. The proposed bandpass filter configuration consists of magnetically coupled waveguide cavities. In order to show the background of the proposed waveguide bandpass filter, the general coupled line TEM bandpass filter theory, which means the coupled line filter with arbitrary coupled line length and impedance level, will be briefly introduced. Calculations for the even- and odd-mode wave impedance of a coupled line waveguide structure are achieved based on the normalized impedance concept for a broad-side coupled waveguides by using vector finite element method(VFEM) calculation. Measured result of an implemented coupled-line type waveguide filter is presented.

  • A proper combination of complex permeability and permittivity is necessary to produce the zero-reflection microwave absorber with an impedance matching. Increasing of dielectric permittivity and development of an impedance matching was investigated in ferrite-rubber composite specimens by addition of conducting materials. Graphite powder of high dielectric constant was added to the composite specimens to increase the permittivity. The precise estimation of graphite content to produce the matched-wave-impedance absorber at a given frequency can be made by using the numerically derived solution map of impedance matching. It was suggested that permittivity adjustment is an effective technique to obtained the microwave absorber with both good absorbing properties and small thickness as well.

  • Flow pulsation often causes vibration and noise in piping systems and therefore has been a troublesome concern for fluid system engineers. According to frequency increase in this paper under the influence wave form of velocity in springly flow and viscosity are drop coefficient of viscosity become increase so that impedance and resistance. The transient variations of flow rate are measured by a modified impedance tube method which is realized by virtue of the present analytical technique. At pipe line in order to eliminate vibration, confirm happened intermittently impedance characteristics. We make a test and frequency analysis and have to minimize obstructive component at hydraulic circuit.
