  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in EEG through attention. Concentration training and performing tasks are important factors in the improvement of motor learning ability. Methods: In the experiment, 22 healthy people were divided into two groups: the trail making test (TMT) group and the computerized neurocognitive function test (CNT) group. A one-way Neuro Harmony M test to see whether there was a significant difference among the groups. Results: The TMT group showed a significant increase in ${\alpha}$ wave, ${\alpha}$ wave sequence, and ${\beta}$ wave sequence; however, there were no significant differences in SMR wave, SMR wave sequence, and ${\beta}$ wave. The CNT group showed increases in ${\alpha}$ wave, ${\alpha}$ wave sequence, SMR wave, SMR wave sequence, and ${\beta}$ wave sequence; however, there was no significant difference in ${\beta}$ wave. In EEGs before and after two performance tasks were changed, there were significant differences in ${\beta}$ wave, SMR wave, SMR wave sequence; however, there were no significant differences in ${\alpha}$ wave sequence, ${\beta}$ wave, and ${\beta}$ wave sequence. Conclusion: Attention training and concentration training offer feedback and repetition for constant stimulus and response. Moreover, attention training and concentration training can contribute to new studies and motivation by developing fast sensory and motor skills through acceptable visual and auditory stimulation.

  • Mass estimation analysis of loose-parts in pressure vessel is necessary for the structural integrity assessment of pressure boundary in nuclear power plants. Mass of loose-parts can be generally estimated from the peak values and the center frequency of impact signals. Magnitude of impact signals is, however, inevitably attenuated according to the traveling distance of the signals and depending on the frequencies. Attenuation rate must be therefore carefully compensated for the precise estimation of loose-part mass. This paper proposes a new compensation method for the attenuation rate based on Bessel function instead of Hankel function in conventional method which has a limitation of usage in near the impact location. It was verified that the suggested compensating equation based on the Bessel function can be applied to the attenuation rate calculation without any limitation.

  • Polynomials are one of most important and widely used numerical tools in dealing with a smooth function on a bounded domain and trigonometric functions work for smooth periodic functions. However, they are not the best choice if a function has a bounded support in space and in frequency domain. The Prolate Spheroidal wave function (PSWF) of order zero has been known as a best candidate as a basis for band-limited functions. In this paper, we review some basic properties of PSWFs defined as eigenfunctions of bounded Fourier transformation. We also propose numerical inversion schemes based on PSWF and present some numerical examples to show their feasibilities as signal processing tools.

  • The records of wave heights which were observed at Muk ho and Po hang of the East Coast of Korea were analized by several probility functions. The exponential 2 parameter distribution was found as the best fit probability function to the historical distribution of wave heights by the test of goodness of fit. But log-normal 2 parameter and log-extremal type A distributions were also fit to the historical distribution, especially in the Smirnov-Kolmogorov test. Therefore, it can't be always regarded that those two distributions are not fit to the wave heiht's distribution. In the test of goodness of fit, the Chi-Square test gave very sensitive results and Smirnov-Kolmogorov test, which is a distribution free and non-parametric test, gave more inclusive results. At the next stage, the inter-relationship between the mean and the one-third wave heights, the mean and the one-=tenth wave heights, the one-third and the one-tenth wave heights, the one-third and the highest wave heights were obtained and discussed.

  • The bow wave breaking and the viscous interaction of stern wave are studied by simulating the free-surface flows. The Navier-Stokes equation is solved by a finite difference method in which the body-fitted coordinate system, the wall function and the triple-grid system are invoked. After validation, the calculations are extended to turbulent flows. The wave elevation at the Reynolds number of $10^4$ is much less than that at $10^6$ although the Froude number is the same. The numerical appearance of the sub-breaking waves is qualitatively supported by experimental observation. They are also applied to study the stern flow of S-103 for which extensive experimental data are available. Although the interaction between separation and the stern wave generation are not yet clear, the effects of the bow wave on the development of the boundary layer flows are concluded to be significant.

  • Wave breaking and breaking wave-induced hydrodynamics are very important subjects in the field of coastal and ocean hydrodynamics and engineering. In the coastal zone, a submerged breakwater has been increasingly popular, since it is one of nature-matching structures with multi- functions such as (1) wave energy dissipation by wave breaking and friction, (2) oxygen supply to sea by wave breaking and breaking wave, (3) water purification by entrained air bubbles, (4) keeping. good seascape. and (5) good habitat for sea livings. Recently, the breaking wave-induced high frequency pressure over a submerged breakwater is said to have a function of gathering sea livings around the structure, which has encouraged the construction of the submerged breakwater in coastal zone. • Wave load prediction at zero forward speed using finite depth Green function is a well-established method regularly used in the offshore and marine industry. The forward speed approximation in deep water condition, although with limitations, is also found to be quite useful for engineering applications. However, analysis of vessels with forward speed in finite water depth still requires efficient computing methods. In this paper, a method for analysis of wave induced forces and corresponding motion on freely floating three-dimensional bodies with low to moderate forward speed is presented. A finite depth Green function is developed and incorporated in a 3D frequency domain potential flow based tool to allow consideration of finite (or shallow) water depth conditions. First order forces and moments and mean second order forces and moments in six degree of freedom are obtained. The effect of hull flare angle in predicting added resistance is incorporated. This implementation provides the unique capability of predicting added resistance in finite water depth with flare angle effect using a Green function approach. The results are validated using a half immersed sphere and S-175 ship. Finally, the effect of finite depth on a tanker with forward speed is presented.

  • Millimeter waves are potentially useful for high resolution ranging and imaging in low optical visibility conditions such as fog and smoke. Also, They can be used for wide band communications since the currently used spectrum bands are already crowded. However, it is necessary to develop a theoretical and experimental understanding of millimeter wave propagation to assess the performance of millimeter wave systems. The intensity fluctuations and mutual coherence function (MCF) describe atmospheric effects on the millimeter wave propagation. Using the quasi-optical method (QOM), a practical and efficient method is suggested to obtain MCF from the flux measurement in the antenna focal plane.
