  • In this paper, a full-wave rectifier (FWR) with a simple vibration detector suitable for use with vibrational energy harvesting systems is presented. Conventional active FWRs where active diodes are used to reduce the diode voltage drop and increase the system efficiency are usually powered from the output. Output-powered FWRs exhibit relatively high efficiencies because the comparators used in active diodes are powered from the stable output voltage. Nevertheless, a major drawback is that these FWRs consume power from the output storage capacitor even when the system is not harvesting any energy. To overcome the problem, a technique using a simple vibration detector consisting of a peak detector and a level converter is proposed. The vibration detector detects whether vibrational energy exists or not in the input terminal and disables the comparators when there is no vibrational energy. The proposed FWR with the vibration detector is designed using a $0.35-{\mu}m$ CMOS process. Simulation results have verified the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. By using the proposed vibration detector, a decrease in leakage current by approximately 67,000 times can be achieved after the vibration disappears.

  • A low frequency square wave electronic ballast for the high intensity discharge(HID) lamps using fuzzy logic controller is developed. This electronic ballast consists a buck converter, a low frequency square wave full bridge inverter, a high voltage pulse generator for the HID lamp ignition, an over current protection circuit and an 8-bit microcontroller. The ballast system is operated on the constant current mode during the HID lamp start-up process and the system is operated on the constant power mode during steady state. Experimental results show that the fuzzy logic control operation is carried out successfully by the 8-bit microcontroller PIC16F877 In this electronic ballast system, in spite of the limited control bandwidth caused by low operating speed of the microcontroller, the good performance in the constant lamp current characteristic is obtained. Acoustic resonance of the HID lamps can be effectively avoided because the instantaneous In lamp power is fully constant due to the low frequency square wave drive.

  • This paper describes a full-wave rectifiers for energy harvesting circuit using vibration detector. The designed circuit operates only when the vibration is detected through the vibration detector and the active diode. When there is no vibration, the comparator is turned off to prevent leakage of energy stored in the $C_{STO}$. The energy stored in the capacitor is used to drive the level converter and the active diode. The energy stored in the capacitor is supplied to an active diode designed as an output power. The vibration detector is implemented with Schmitt Trigger and Peak Detector with Hysteresis function. The proposed circuit is designed in a CMOS 0.35um technology and its functionality has been verified through extensive simulations. The designed chip occupies $590{\mu}m{\times}583{\mu}m$.

  • Since the residential load is an AC load, while the output of solar cell is a DC power, the photovoltaic system needs the DC/AC converter to utilize solar cell and must provide the sinusoidal wave current and voltage with unity power factor in the case of driving to Interact with utility line. It is always necessary for the output of solar cell to operate in the vicinity of maximum power point, since it is greatly fluctuated by insolation. This paper treats that we will constitute a single phase PWM voltage source inverter and trace the modulation index which always maximize the output of solar cell in propotion to insolation variation and prove it by simulation that we can provide current wave, which is nearly sinusoidal wave with unity power factor, for load and utility line.

  • This paper presents a CMOS interface circuit for vibration energy harvesting with MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking). In the proposed system a PMU (Power Management Unit) is employed at the output of a DC-DC boost converter to provide a regulated output with low-cost and simple architecture. In addition an MPPT controller using FOC (Fractional Open Circuit) technique is designed to harvest maximum power from vibration devices and increase efficiency of overall system. The AC signal from vibration devices is converted into a DC signal by an AC-DC converter, and then boosted through the DC-DC boost converter. The boosted signal is converted into a duty-cycled and regulated signal and delivered to loads by the PMU. A full-wave rectifier using active diodes is used as the AC-DC converter for high efficiency, and a DC-DC boost converter architecture using a schottky diode is employed for a simple control circuitry. The proposed circuit has been designed in a 0.35um CMOS process, and the designed chip occupies $915{\mu}m{\times}895{\mu}m$. Simulation results shows that the maximum power efficiency of the entire system is 83.4%.

  • We propose a correction method of nonlinear frequency sweep in an FMCW(Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave) laser range finder. FMCW laser range finder requires linear frequency sweep for high resolution, and nonlinear frequency sweep makes the system performance degrade. In general, VCO(Voltage Controlled Oscillator) which is a component used for frequency modulation in FMCW method has nonlinear property. To correct the nonlinear frequency sweep, we utilize an auxiliary delay structure for generating trigger signal of ADC(Analog to Digital Converter). Because the trigger signal has same rate of change with the beat signal, the nonlinearity of the beat signal can be corrected. the experimental results show that the proposed method effectively eliminates the nonlinear frequency sweep problem and enhances the system performance.

  • In this paper, dual axes waveguide rotary joint, which operates at high power and has low loss characteristic, is designed and fabricated for a Ka-band millimeter-wave small radar. Its electrical performance is verified through the S-parameter at room temperature, high power and operation temperature test. Rotary joint functionally consists of the mode converter transforming rectangular waveguide into circular waveguide and the choke at the rotation part. At the configuration design, linking a fixed transmitter to an antenna rotating dual axes electrically for minimum loss and light weight body are considered. In Fc(center frequency)${\pm}500MHz$, the designed rotary joint has VSWR 1.5:1 below return loss, -2.0 dB above insertion loss. It is found that rotary joint characteristics is similar to design results.

DDC technology consists of a digital channel filter. This is a typical digital filter because of the limited fisheries are vulnerable to overflow and rounding errors are drawbacks. In this paper, we overcome this disadvantage, we propose the structure of the DDC. The way WDF (Wave Digital Filter) Structural rounding error due to the structural resistance to noise. Therefore, This is the useful structure when the filter coefficients's word length is short. In addition, since IIR filters based on FIR filters based on the amount of computation is reduced because fewer than filter's tap. The proposed structure is used in DDC that CIC (Cascaded Integrator Comb) filter, WDF, IFOP (Interpolated Fourth-Order Polynomials) were analyzed with respect to, the results were confirmed by computer simulation.
