제5기 국민건강영양조사(2010년, 2011년) 자료를 이용한 뇌졸중 유병 경험자들의 과일 및 채소 섭취 관련 요인 분석 (Factors Associated with Fruit and Vegetable Consumption of Subjects Having a History of Stroke: Using 5th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2010, 2011))

  • Objectives: Intake of fruits and vegetables has protective effects against stroke attack. This study intended to examine the status of consuming fruits and vegetables and to find out which factors may influence the frequency of consumption of fruits and vegetables in individuals with a history of stroke. Methods: The data of 208 subjects from 5th (2010, 2011) Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHNES) who reported a stroke diagnosis was used for analysis. To identify major factors influencing the consumption of fruits and vegetables, a classification-tree analysis was carried out. Results: Among those who reported a stroke diagnosis, the frequencies of consumption of fruits and vegetables were influenced by their age, place of residence (urban or rural), economic status, educational level, occupation, number of family members, frequency of eating out, and having meals (breakfast or lunch) with family members. Two factors from fruits and three factors from vegetables were generated by exploratory factor analyses. Urban residents ate fruits and vegetables more frequently in all factors than rural residents. Eating frequencies of 'seasonal fruits (orange, apple, strawberry, melon, pear and watermelon)', 'easily-accessible fruits (persimmon, tangerine, grape, peach, banana)', and 'Western-style vegetables (cabbage, mushroom, carrot, tomato, spinach)' were influenced by the socioeconomic status. Eating frequencies of 'Korean-style vegetables (bean sprout, radish leaves, pumpkin/squash, sea weed)', 'preserved vegetables (Korean cabbage, radish, laver, cucumber)' were influenced by having breakfast with family members. Conclusions: The results of this study suggested that by eating more fruits and vegetables, more preventive effects against secondary stroke attack are expected in stroke patients who live in the rural areas and who do not eat breakfast with family members. In addition, more outreach and education programs are needed for them.

  • 우리나라 서남권에 해당하는 서해안고속도로가 통과하는 전라북도 고창지역은 점토분이 많아 내포돼 있는 황토가 많다. 황토는 수박이나 고구마 같은 작물의 재배에는 양질의 토사이지만, 도로를 구축하기 위한 노상재료로 사용하는데는 원하는 강도값을 얻기가 힘들 토사였다. 이 연구 대상구간의 지역은 절토부의 노상재료가 원하는 재료의 품질기준을 충족시키지 못하였다. 노상층의 재료 특성을 보면, #200번체 통과량이 25~82%정도로 지하수위가 거의 노상면과 일치하여 자연함수비 과다로 시공시 노상토의 지지력 확보가 불가능한 것으로 판단되었다. 본 연구는 이와 같이 지지력이 부족한 현장에 적절한 절토부 노상지지력의 확보방안을 수립하여 원하는 공정을 추진함으로서 보다 안전하고 튼튼한 고속도로를 건설하는데 있었다.

Establishment of an Agrobacterium-mediated Inoculation System for Cucumber Green Mottle Mosaic Virus

  • The infectious full-length cDNA clones of Cucumber green mottle mosaic virus (CGMMV) isolates KW and KOM, which were isolated from watermelon and oriental melon, respectively, were constructed under the control of the cauliflower mosaic virus 35S promoter. We successfully inoculated Nicotiana benthamiana with the cloned CGMMV isolates KW and KOM by Agrobacterium-mediated infiltration. Virulence and symptomatic characteristics of the cloned CGMMV isolates KW and KOM were tested on several indicator plants. No obvious differences between two cloned isolates in disease development were observed on the tested indicator plants. We also determined full genome sequences of the cloned CGMMV isolates KW and KOM. Sequence comparison revealed that only four amino acids (at positions 228, 699, 1212, and 1238 of the replicase protein region) differ between the cloned isolates KW and KOM. A previous study reported that the isolate KOM could not infect Chenopodium amaranticolor, but the cloned KOM induced chlorotic spots on the inoculated leaves. When compared with the previously reported sequence of the original KOM isolate, the cloned KOM contained one amino acid mutation (Ala to Thr) at position 228 of the replicase protein, suggesting that this mutation might be responsible for induction of chlorotic spots on the inoculated leaves of C. amaranticolor.

The Detection of Plant Viruses in Korean Ginseng (Panax ginseng) through RNA Sequencing

  • Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng) is a dicotyledonous, medicinal, perennial plant belonging to the genus Panax of the family Araliaceae. We investigated the occurrence and incidence of plant viruses in Panax ginseng in Korea. A total of 656 leaf samples were combined into one and total RNA was extracted from the polled sample, using RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq), a metatranscriptome analysis of the plant virome was conducted. The virus present in Panax ginseng was confirmed by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assay using virus-specific primers. In RNA-Seq data analysis, the multiplication protein of four viral contigs including Aristotelia chilensis virus 1 (AcV1), Turnip mosaic virus (TuMV), Watermelon mosaic virus (WMV), and Tobamovirus multiplication protein were discovered. From our metatranscriptome analysis and RT-PCR assay, TuMV and WMV were detected, whereas the three viruses reported in China such as tomato yellow leaf curl China virus; panax notoginseng virus A; and panax virus Y were not found in this study. The distribution of domestic ginseng viruses seems different from that recorded in China. Overall, this is the first plant virome analysis of Panax ginseng in Korea.

Genome-Wide Identification and Classification of the AP2/EREBP Gene Family in the Cucurbitaceae Species

  • AP2/EREBP gene family consists of transcription factor genes with a conserved AP2 DNA-binding domain and is involved in various biological processes. AP2/EREBP gene families were identified through genome-wide searches in five Cucurbitaceae species including cucumber, wild cucumber, melon, watermelon, and bitter gourd, which consisted of more than 100 genes in each of the five species. The gene families were further divided into five groups including four subfamilies (ERF, DREB, AP2 and RAV) and a soloist group. Among the subfamilies, DREB subfamily which is known to be related to abiotic stress response was more analyzed and a total of 25 genes were identified as Cucurbitaceae homologues of Arabidopsis CBF/DREB1 genes which are important for abiotic stress-response and tolerance. In silico expression profiling using RNA-Seq data revealed diverse expression patterns of cucumber AP2/EREBP genes. AP2/EREBP gene families identified in this study will be valuable for understanding the stress response mechanism as well as facilitating molecular breeding in Cucurbitaceae crops.

국내에서 상용되는 농산물의 카로티노이드 함량 분석 (Analysis of Carotenoids in Commonly Consumed Agricultural Products in Korea)

  • A total of 51 vegetables and fruits, commonly consumed agriculture products in Korea, were analyzed for their α-carotene, β-carotene, and β-cryptoxanthin contents as provitamin A. The beta-carotene content (㎍/100 g) was high in a few green leaf vegetables such as coriander (5,924.07), gegeol radish leaf (5.855.72), and curried mallow (5,138.01), while α-carotene and β-cryptoxanthin contents were not detected. The β-carotene in 8 kinds of 20 general vegetables was detected in the range of 214.06~1,437.67 ㎍/100 g, while α-carotene was detected at 460.17 ㎍/100 g in only old pumpkin. The β-cryptoxanthin was detected in the range of 106.55~315.49 ㎍/100 g in Japanese elm, watermelon, white cucumber, and lettuce. However, carotenoids were not detected in 10 kinds of agricultural products including oriental melon, potato, etc. In fruits, the beta-carotene contents ranged from 165.72~3,997.39 ㎍/100 g, showing maximum value in apple mango and minimum value in persimmon. The β-cryptoxanthin was detected at 232.22 ㎍/100 g in only passion fruit, while the α-carotene was detected at 77.25 ㎍/100 g in only darae. Thus, based on the analyzed results of carotenoids of agriculture products consumed or cultivated in Korea, and it was found that green leaf vegetables comprise high beta-carotene overall.

Composition and Utilization of Urban Garden Space Using the Planting System Design Process

  • Background and objective: Urbanization caused a reduction in urban green space and a lack of community spaces. An attempt to solve these problems, urban gardens, have become popular and are currently being implemented in various downtown areas. However, urban gardens have some inadequate aspects from a visual or landscape perspective. The goal of this study was to examine the possibility of an aesthetic and productive garden space by introducing cultivation methods through the planting system design process. Methods: The design process using plants was classified and presented to suggest the importance of the landscape and aesthetic value. An urban garden space was designed according to the perspective of 'production scenery' and 'participation aesthetics'. According to the characteristics of the plant, urban gardens were divided into vertical type (corn, millet, sorghum), climbing type (kidney bean, cucumber, bitter gourd), and runner type (melon, watermelon, peanut). After classifying plants according to the shape of the root, the structure supporting climbing was installed and the crops were cultivated in an upright form with a tunnel. Results: In the designed cultivation, each crop cooperates, without invading each other's space. Compared with the conventional cultivation, there was little difference in production, and management was made more convenient since weed outbreaks were effectively suppressed while runner type crops cover over the land's surface. Since the positions of each crop are clearly distinguished, the aesthetic value is improved by offering a sense of rhythm with a balanced design. Conclusion: The results suggest that the cultivation methods through the plant system design process have aesthetic as well as productive value, and the design using plants, an infinite living resource, could lead to an expansion of the design field. Moreover, it would enable a sustainable symbiosis between industry and environment. There is potential for the design industry to make significant progress through collaboration with agriculture, horticulture, and landscape architecture.

유아교사가 새노래 지도에 사용하는 동요 분석 (Analysis on Children's Songs Utilized in New-Song-Learning Activities in Early Childhood Education)

  • 본 연구의 연구목적은 유아교사가 새노래 지도에 사용하는 동요를 조사하고 상위빈도 동요의 악곡을 분석하는 것이다. 이를 위해 수도권 소재의 유아교육기관에 근무하는 유아교사 120명을 임의표집하여 연간 새노래 지도에 사용하는 동요를 조사했다. SPSS 25.0을 사용하여 상위빈도 20위의 동요를 추출했으며, 일반적 특성(장르, 주제) 및 음악적 특성(조성, 박자, 형식, 음역)을 분석했다. 연구결과를 살펴보면 첫째, 유아교사가 새노래 지도에 사용하는 동요를 조사한 결과 「가을길」이 가장 많이 나타났으며, 다음으로 「겨울바람」, 「허수아비 아저씨」, 「수박파티」, 「코스모스」 등의 순으로 나타났다. 둘째, 상위빈도 20위의 동요를 분석한 결과, 일반적 특성인 장르는 창작동요가 가장 많이 나타났고, 주제로는 계절이 가장 많이 나타났다. 음악적 특성을 살펴보면, 조성은 다장조, 박자는 4/4박자가 가장 많았으며, 형식으로는 세도막형식과 작은세도막형식, 음역으로는 c' - c"와 c' - d"가 가장 많이 나타났다.

Development of cooking method for senior-friendly food using fruits suitable for older adults with masticatory dysfunction

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to establish a fruit-cooking method suitable for older adults with masticatory dysfunction. MATERIALS/METHODS: Five types of fruits were selected to make fruit jelly and puree: apple, sweet persimmon, mandarin, Korean melon, and watermelon. Recipes were selected based on the Korean Industrial Standard (KS) for senior-friendly foods (KS H 4897), which classifies foods into 3 levels (L1-L3) based on their hardness and viscosity. RESULTS: In South Korea, senior-friendly foods are classified into 3 stages based on their hardness. Stage 1 is for foods that are able to eat with teeth (hardness greater than 50,000 N and less than 500,000 N), Stage 2 is for foods that are able to eat with gums (hardness greater than 20,000 N and less than 50,000 N), and Stage 3 is for foods that are able to eat with the tongue (hardness less than 20,000 N). As a result of measuring the hardness by varying the shape of the fruit, it was found that nearly all fruits could be eaten fresh by chewing with the teeth (L1) but did not meet the KS for mastication using the gums (L2) or tongue (L3), so the cooking method was selected as fruit jelly and fruit puree. Only sweet persimmon, which had a hardness of 61,624-496,393 N, was not suitable for consumption in fresh fruit, unprocessed form. Based on their hardness measurements, fruit jellies (27,869 to 36,343 N) and fruit purees (315 to 1,156 N) met the L2 and L3 requirements, respectively. The viscosity results of all fruit purees met the L3 requirement. CONCLUSION: These results offer a simple cooking method to prepare texture-modified fruits suitable for safe consumption by older adults living with masticatory difficulties in general households and nursing facilities.

무등산수박과 달고나수박의 관비재배와 양액재배에 있어서 생육 및 과실품질의 비교 (Comparisons of Growth and Fruit Quality of Citrullus lanatus cv. Mudeungsan and Citrullus vulgaris cv. Dalgona Grown in Fertigation and Soilless Culture)

  • 무등산수박과 달고나수박을 관비재배 및 양액재배에 대하여 비교 실험한 결과, 엽수는 달고나수박이 많은 반면 엽면적은 무등산수박이 높게 나타났고, 생체중 및 건물중에 있어서도 무등산수박이 달고나수박 보다 더 높게 나타났다. 엽수, 엽면적, 줄기당 생체중 및 건물중 등은 양액재배에서 더 양호한 생장을 나타내었다. 재배방식에 관계없이 당도는 달고나 수박이 무등산수박보다 훨씬 더 높은 반면 과실무게는 무등산수박이 더 높게 나타났다. 수박의 엽병내 질소함량은 정식후 15일에는 11.4∼13.4mg/gFW, 과실비대기에는 17.1∼20.6mg/gFW, 정도로 상승하였다. 인산은 생육초기 3.7∼5.7mg/gFW 정도에서 수확기에 이르면 0.6∼l.1mg/gFW 정도로 감소하였다. 칼리는 생육초기에 5.8∼6.6mg/gFW 정도였으나 수분기부터는 4.0∼4.8mg/gFW 범위로 흡수되었다. 칼슘의 흡수는 생육초기에는 양액재배 수박이 3.4∼4.1mg/gFW 범위로 관비재배 수박의 2.5∼3.5mg/gFW 범위보다 약간 많은 것으로 나타났지만 생육이 진전됨에 따라 관비재배 수박의 흡수량이 양액재배 수박의 흡수량보다 많아지는 경향이었다. 마그네슘의 흡수는 생육초기에 관비재배에서 훨씬 더 용이하게 흡수되는 경향이었으나 수분기 부터는 0.9∼l.3mg/gFW 범위로 일정하였다. 본 실험결과 무등산수박의 양액재배를 통한 품질향상 및 주년재배의 가능성이 인정되었다.
