The objective of this study is to experimentally investigate the effect of design parameter on the mass ratio of a central-driven ejector. The design parameters are the primary nozzle area and distance ratios, diffuser exit-area ratio and mixing-tube length ratio. The experimental setup was an open-loop continuous circulation system which has a movable nozzle ejector, an electric motor-pump, a water tank, a control panel and high-speed camera unit. We calculated the mass ratio using the measured primary and suction-flow rates with the experimental parameter of primary water-flow rate or pressure. The results showed that the mass ratio increased with the primary nozzle distance ratio and mixing tube length ratio, while the mass ratio decreased with the primary nozzle-area ratio and diffuser exit-area ratio.

Experimental results for performance characteristics of small $NH_3$ absorption chiller/ heater are presented. The apparatus consists of 7RT water-cooled absorption system, solution pump, boiler, cooling tower and peripheral devices. The effect of experimental parameters, such as refrigerant mass flow rate, solution mass flow rate and cooling water temperature have been investigated in view of the system performance. The capacity of each heat exchanger increased as refrigerant mass flow rate increased in cooling mode. Also, a cooling capacity increased as a strong solution mass flow rate increased. The cooling and heating COP show 0.5, 1.5 regardless of refrigerant mass flow rate, respectively. The results focus on the evaluation for performance characteristics of system with respect to variation of refrigerant mass flow rate under standard design conditions.

Ground-coupled heat pump systems have been widely used, as they are regarded as a renewable energy source and ensure a high annual efficiency. Among the system components, borehole heat exchangers (BHE) play an important role in decreasing the entering water temperature (EWT) to heat pumps in the cooling season, and consequently improve the COP. The optimal sizing of the BHEs is crucial for a successful project. Other than the existing sizing methods, a simulation-based design tool is more applicable for modern complex geothermal systems, and it may also be useful since design and engineering works operate on the same platform. A simulation-based sizing method is proposed in this study using the well-known Duct STorage (DST) model in Trnsys. TRNOPT, the Trnsys optimization tool, is used to search for an optimal value of the length of BHEs under given ground loads and ground properties. The result shows that a maximum EWT of BHEs during a design period (10 years) successfully approaches the design EWT while providing an optimal BHE length. Compared to the existing design tool, very similar lengths are calculated by both methods with a small error of 1.07%.

The Three Mile Island Unit 2 (TMI-2) accident has been studied extensively, as part of both post-accident technical assessment and follow-up computer code calculations. The models used in computer codes for severe accidents have improved significantly over the years due to better understanding. It was decided to reanalyze the severe accident scenario using current state of the art codes and methodologies. This reanalysis was adopted as a part of the joint standard problem exercise for the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) - United States Regulatory Commission (USNRC) bilateral safety meet. The accident scenario was divided into four phases for analysis viz., Phase 1 covers from the accident initiation to the shutdown of the last Reactor Coolant Pumps (RCPs) (0 to 100 min), Phase 2 covers initial fuel heat up and core degradation (100 to 174 min), Phase 3 is the period of recovery of the core water level by operating the reactor coolant pump, and the core reheat that followed (174 to 200 min) and Phase 4 covers refilling of the core by high pressure injection (200 to 300 min). The base case analysis was carried out for all four phases. The majority of the predicted parameters are in good agreement with the observed data. However, some parameters have significant deviations compared to the observed data. These discrepancies have arisen from uncertainties in boundary conditions, such as makeup flow, flow during the RCP 2B transient (Phase 3), models used in the code, the adopted nodalisation schemes, etc. In view of this, uncertainty and sensitivity analyses are carried out using simulation based techniques. The paper deals with uncertainty and sensitivity analyses carried out for the first three phases of the accident scenario.
Recently, because people are taking a great interest in the water supply system and the related facilities are getting larger, the surge suppression is very important problem. The waterhammer occurs when the pumps are started or stoped for operation or tripped due to the power failure. As the waterhammer problems as a result of the pump power failure were very serious, these situations were carefully investigated. Accordingly, we carried out both numerical simulations and field tests to confirm the safety of Juam intake pumping station in which had the in-line pumps. In this paper, it was reviewed that the water supply system has the reliability on the pressure surge, in case the air chambers were installed at both the inlet and the oulet of the in-line pumping station. From the numerical simulations, we found that negative pressure occurred at the inlet disappeared and high pressure occurred at the outlet reduced due to the air chambers. And these results of numerical simulations verified by the field tests. The field tests carried out in case of normal start, normal stop, one and two of pumps emergency stop. By results of simulations and field tests, we are sure that Juam intake pumping station in which have the air chambers is safe for the waterhammer. In addition, we suggested the operation methods of facilities for safe maintenance of the pumping station.
To perform long-term sewer monitoring, It is important to understand the nature of the wastewater flow that occurs at the point on early stage of the monitor and to prevent in advance a problem which may caused. We can infer the flow properties and external factors by analyzing the scatter graph obtained from the measured data flow rate monitoring data since an field external factor affecting the sewage flow is reflected in the flow rate monitoring data. In this study, Selecting the three points having various external factors, and we Inferred the sewer flow characteristics from depth-velocity scatter graph and determined the analysis equation for the dry-weather flow rate data. At the'point 1' expected non-pressure flow, we were able to see the drawdown effect caused by the free fall in the manhole section. At the'point 2', existed weir and sediments, there was backwater effect caused by them, and each of size calculated from the scatter graph analysis were 400 mm and 130 mm. At the'Point 3', there is specific flow pattern that is coming from flood wave propagation generated by the pump station at upstream. In common, adequate equations to explain the dry weather flow data are flume equation and modified manning equation(SS method), and the equations had compatibility for explaining the data because all of $R^2$ values are over 0.95.

The effects of spot cooling on growing ever-bearing strawberry in hydroponic cultivation during summer by spot cooling system was estimated in plastic greenhouse located in Pyeongchang. The temperature of cooling water was controlled by heat pump and maintained at the range of $15{\sim}20^{\circ}C$. Cooling pipes were installed in root zone and very close to crown. Spot cooling effect was estimated by applying system in three cases which were cooling root zone, crown plus root zone, and crown only. White low density polyethylene pipe in nominal diameter of 16 mm was installed on crown spot, and Stainless steel flexible pipe in nominal diameter of 15A was installed in root zone. Crown and root zone cooling water circulation was continuously performed at flowrates of 300 ~ 600 L/hr all day long. Strawberry yields by test beds were surveyed from Aug. 1 to Sep. 30. The accumulated yield growth rate compared with a control bed of crown cooling bed was 25 % and that of crown plus root zone cooling bed was 25 % and that of root zone cooling bed was 20 %. The temperatures of root spot in root zone cooling was maintained at $18{\sim}23.0^{\circ}C$ and that of crown spot in crown cooling was maintained at $19{\sim}24^{\circ}C$. Also, the temperatures of root spot in crown plus root zone cooling bed was maintained at $17.0{\sim}22.0^{\circ}C$ and that of crown spot was maintained at $19{\sim}25^{\circ}C$.
The Sediment deposits in rivers and reservoirs are major components interfering with the useful function of the reservoirs, and clogging the inlet port at water intakes in rivers and erosion of pump impellers. Therefore, an accurate estimation method of sediment deposition is requisite to the efficient water resources investigation, planning and management. The objective of this paper is to forecast of reservoir sediment deposition using two dimensional model (SMS) to UnMun reservoir in GyeongSangBukDo. The RUSLE model showed that reservoirs volume was decreased $2,084.09{\times}10^6m^3$ after 50 years and $2,196.65{\times}10^6m^3$ after 100 years, which is plan flood level elevation (EL.152.12 m) reservoir. The two dimensional model showed that reservoirs volume was decreased $2,227.41{\times}10^6m^3$ after 50 years and $2,121.47{\times}10^6m^3$ after 100 years, which is plan flood level elevation (EL.152.12 m) reservoir. The results of this application showed that the use of two dimensional model was very effective for the estimation sediment deposits throughout the reservoir.

The purpose of this study is to investigate cooling performance of high power LEDs from 100 to 200 W class by using a jet impingement cooling module. The numerical analysis of forced convection cooling inside cooling module is carried out using a multi-purpose CFD software, FLUENT 6.3. In the experiments, the LED cooling system consists of jet impingement module, heat exchanger, water reservoir, and pump. In the present study, the cooling performance of jet impingement cooling module is investigated to determine the effect of the heat sink types on the impinging surface, the space and length of fins. Numerical and experimental studies show the reasonable agreement of LED metal PCB temperature between those results and give the optimized design parameters such as the space of fin and the length of fin. Also, the pin fin type of heat sink is found to be more efficient than the plate type heat sink in jet impingement cooling.
