  • Lots of researches were gone already about grooving corrosion mechanism of ERW carbon steel pipe. But there is seldom study for water hammer happened by fluid and acceleration of corrosion rate by incresed flow velocity. Therefore, in this study carried out the analysis based on hydrodynamic and fracture mechanics. Analyzed stress that act on a pipe using ANSYS as a program, and also FLUENT and STAR-CD were used for flow phenomenon confirmation. As the result, fatigue failure is happened by water hammer and corrosion rate was increased because of turbulent flow.

  • The corrosion fatigue test were carried out to evaluate the fatigue characteristics of accelerated cooled (ACC) TMCP high tensile strength steels and weld joint with high heat input by one side one run submerged are welding. In this paper, the fatigue crack growth behaviors were investigated with the center crack tension specimen of base metal and heat affected zone in substitute sea water and air, respectively Main results obtained are sunnarized as follows: 1. The fatigue crack growth rates in sea water faster than those in air environment for the different heat input values, crack growth rate of base metal is very fast and effect of heat input is not remarkable. 2. In HAZ (82kJ/cm, 116kJ/cm), the crack branching phenomena were observed in both air and sea water environment, 3. In SEM observation, the corrosion effect on base metal was larger than that on HAZ in corrosion environment.

  • This research was carried out to investigate the corrosion prevention effect in the water distribution system by galvanized zinc-brass pipe which is using potential between brass and zinc. As a result of this study, pH and conductivity of influent were constant in spite of its installation, and it was difficult to estimate the effect of the installation with temporary increased and reduced concentration of Zn and Fe ions, respectively. However, since the corrosion rate of the steel coupon with galvanized zinc-brass pipe was relatively low, it has an effect of inhibiting corrosion.

  • The sea water pipe of engine room in all kinds of ships is being surrounded with severe corrosive environment. Therefore it's leakage part due to corrosion is inevitably prevented by various welding method. In this case corrosion property of welded zone may be considerably different by each welding materials. In this study corrosion resistance of the welded zone of sea water pipe with some welding materials such as shielded metal arc welding materials, inert gas arc welding materials was investigated with electrochemical method.

  • Fatigue tests under acid fog environment were carried out to investigate the effect of acid fog on the corrosion fatigue strength of SM55C in comparison with distilled water. Main results obtained are as follows. The fatigue strength of SM55C under acid fog environment are remarkably decreased as compared with that of distilled water specimen. The corrosive effect of acid fog on fatigue strength are more serious under low stress amplitude level than under high stress amplitude level, and this leads to continuous reduction of fatigue strength. Under acid fog environment in early stage of crack growth. because the corrosive components dissolve the crack face offensively. the unstable fracture surface appears. But, the stable corrosion precipitation and products layer are formed on the fracture surface in accordance with the time pass.

  • This experimentation is to apperciation an efficiency of repair for processing crack by corrosion of steel reinforcing, Crack on concrete by corrosion of steel reinforcing is the fact that the first crack appear on the surface of water because of supplying is of oxygen and water. The crack processing is on surface to be contacted by air and to bottom as mainly the vertical direction from a surface of water. The experimentation gives rise to crack in model by electricity. Crack by corrosion of steel reinforcing is more internal crack than external crack. since it is so. crack by corrosion of steel reinforcing have to attention to repair or intermal crack.

  • Protection characteristics of the corroded steel pile which was served as a pier structure over 8 years in seawater have been examined in terms of corrosion potential, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) and anodic/cathodic polarization curves. The steel structure was sectioned into two parts, waterline(splash zone, just above the seawater surface) and in-water(underwater), and protection characteristics for the two parts were investigated with the application of cathodic protection(CP) by sacrificial anodes using Zn and Al alloys. The main results obtained were as follows; (1) The corrosion potential of waterline zone was higher than that of in-water, which implied that the corrosion of waterline was more severe than that of in-water, (2) As a result of EIS examination, the transition period from the apparent CP to the substantial CP took about twenty to thirty days according to the corrosion condition.

  • This paper describes the experiments of the corrosion and the sliding tests of the nickel-based alloys for the gate valve seating materials used at high pressure and temperature. The general corrosion rates and IGC susceptibility are tested in pressurized water at 533 K and 575 K and in Strauss test solution. The sliding tests have been done in pressurized water at 293 k, 473 K and 573 k. The alloys containing above 10% chromium may have the anti-corrosion properties that could be applied to the valve seats for the power plants. The good sliding performance and the good pressure tightness are obtained when the disc specimens that have hardness 500 to 600 Hv combined with the seat specimens that have hardness 250 to 410 Hv containing about 40 percent of iron. The large size gate valves sliding tests have certified the test results. The anti-wear properties of the seat alloy and the anti-IGC susceptibility of the disc alloy could be improved by the addition of silicon and niobium, respectively.

  • The tests of stress corrosion cracking in structural carbon steel were carried out under the conditions of acid fog and general water. As the result of measurement SCC rupture time under acid fog was observed to be much shorter than that of general water at the same stress level. Therefore, acid fog drops the SCC strength in structural carbon steel due to strong corrosion. In the SCC process by acid fog, crack initiation was caused by pit corrosion and local stress concentration, and distinctive feature of crack growth shows branching since crack grows to the corrosion direction. Moreover, corrosion products were observed by clevage corrosion on the crack surfaces.

  • Recently the shortage of good aggregate has encouraged the use of sea sand in construction field, and the corrosion damage of the reinforced steel in concrete structures has been increased due to chlorides from sea sand and deicing salt. Therefore, a number of researchs are proceeding to prevent the corrosion of the reinforced steel in concrete, especially in marine environments. This study focused on the effect of corrosion inhibitors to evaluate protection characteristics for mortar specimens containing clorides. Corrosion behaviors have been investigated by half-cell potential measurement, linear polarization method, AC impedance method, and cyclic polarization test after immersing in sea water for 7 years. A possitive effect of a corrosion inhibitor has been obtained.
