Recently, the ice storage system using ice slurry has been used increasingly since it has been introduced where the rapid cooling load change is required. Because it overcomes a decrease of the melting performance and an increase of the thermal resistance on the ice layer in static ice thermal storage system. This study is performed to understand the effects of transporting ice slurry through horizontal, vertical and inclined tubes ($30^{\circ},\;45^{\circ}$). It used propylene glycol-water solution and ice particles (diameter of about 2 mm) in this experiment. The experiments were carried out under various conditions, with concentration of water solution ranging from 0 to $20wt\%$, and velocity of water solution at the entry ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 m/s. The results were as follows: Regarding the angle of inclined tube, the highest pressure loss was measured for vertical tube and the pressure loss for $45^{\circ},\;30^{\circ}$, horizontal straight tubes were lower successively. The lowest pressure loss in these tubes was measured at velocity of $2.0{\sim}2.5m/s$ and concentration of $10wt\%$. The outlet IPF was likewise stable in these ranges.
Average Bi-directional flow tube was suggested to measure single and two phase flow rate. Its working principle is similar with Pilot tube, however, it makes it possible to eliminate the cooling system which is normally needed to prevent from flashing in the pressure impulse line of Pilot tube when it is used in the depressurization condition. The suggested instrumentation was tested in the air-water vertical test section which has 80mm inner diameter and 10m length. The flow tube was installed at 120 of L/D from inlet of test section. From the test, single air and water flow rate was measured successfully. For the emasurement of two phase flow rate, Chexal drift-flux correlation was used. In the test a new correlation of momentum exchange factor was suggested. The test result shows that the suggested instrumentation using the measured void fraction and Chexal drift-flux correlation can predict the mass flow rates within $10\%$ error of measured data.
This study was accomplished to evaluate the performance of Multi Effect Distillation(MED) for solar thermal desalination system. It was designed Multi effect distillation with $3m^3$/day capacity and Shell&Tube type heat exchanger. Also, The effective heat transfer of Shell&Tube heat exchanger was used Cu(90%)-Ni(10%) corrugated tube. The parameters relating to the performance of Multi Effect Distillation are known as hot water flow rate. The experimental conditions for each parameters were $18^{\circ}C$ for sea water inlet temperature, $6m^3$/hour sea water inlet volume flow rate, $75^{\circ}C$ for hot water inlet temperature, 2.4, 3.6, and $4.8\;m^3$/hour for hot water inlet volume flow rate, respectively. The results are as follows, Development for Multi effect distillation was required about 40kW heat and 35kW cooling source to produce $3m^3$/day of fresh water. Based on the results of this study, It makes possible to secure economics of desalination system with solar energy which is basically needed development of high efficiency fresh water generator.
this paper presents the results of experiments on subsooling degree characteristics which was analyzed in accordance with various test conditions. The test water was cooled below freezing point temperature, was measured. The results showed that using city water as the test water in pyrex tube indicated small standard deviation (SD) compared to using distilled water, and minimum subcooling degree was 6.9$^{\circ}C$ and 6.2$^{\circ}C$, respectively. In addition, a critical subcooling degree in a pyrex tube was larger than that in a stainless steel tube about 0.7$^{\circ}C$ for the same test water. It was also observed that the standard deviation of data for the distilled water showed decreasing tendency aw the increasing with cooling velocity. Then metaldehyde showed a considerable effect on the subcooling degree of distilled water as the ice nucleating substance with increase of test number.

Nowadays, adsorption chillers have been receiving considerable attention, as they are energy saving and environmentally benign systems. A fin tube type heat exchanger in which adsorption/desorption takes place is required with more compact size. The adsorption chiller is expected to have high energy efficiency in utilizing the waste heat exhausted from a process. The objectives of this paper are to scrutinize the effect of design parameters on the adsorption performance, especially the fin pitch of the fin tube, and to develop an optimal design fin tube heat exchanger in a silica gel/water adsorption chiller. From the numerical results, the fin pitch of 2.5 mm shows the highest adsorption rate, compared to other fin pitches, such as 5 mm, 7.5 mm and 10mm. Also, the adsorption rate is affected by the cooling water and hot water temperature.

This paper deals with the correlation of absorption rate in absorber and evaporation rate in evaporator. The evaporator consists of a copper tube of 10mm dia, and 600mm long and chilled water flowing through the tube is fed by the chilled water circulator. The flowrate of LiBr-water solution in the absorber plays a significant role in determining the magnitude of the heat transfer rate from chilled water to refrigerant There exists a flowrate of solution which has a maximum value of heat transfer. It is interesting to note that the absorption rate of absorber increases with increasing the heat transfer rate of the evaporator. Also, absorption rate increases with evaportation rate, and the ratio(the former/the other) depends on the inlet temperature of LiBr-water solution in the absorber. The heating capacity in the absorber is higher than the refrigerating capacity in the evaporator.

A simulation program using the mass transfer correlation was constructed to analyze 1-D simplified condensing flow across the tube bank. Higher efficiency was anticipated by reducing the flue gas temperature down below the dew point where the water vapor in the flue gas is condensed at the surface of the heat exchanger; that is, the heat transfer by the latent heat is added to that by the sensible heat. Thus, there can be an optimum operating condition to maximize the heat recovery from the flue gas. The temperature rises of the flue gas and the cooling water between the inlet and the outlet of the tube bank were compared with the experimental data reported previously. The predicted results agree well with the experimental data. Using this simulation program, the parametric studies have been conducted fur various operating conditions, such as the velocities and temperatures of the vapor/gas mixture and the cooling water, the number of the rows, and the conductivity of the wall material.

The heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop during gas cooling process of carbon dioxide in a horizontal tube were investigated. The experiments were conducted without oil in the refrigerant loop. The main components of the refrigerant loop are a receiver, a variable-speed pump, a mass flowmeter, an evaporator, and a gas cooler(test section). The main components of the water loop consist of a variable-speed pump, an isothermal tank, and a flowmeter. The gas cooler is a counterflow heat exchanger with refrigerant flowing in the inner tube and water flowing in the annulus. The test section consists of smooth, horizontal stainless steel tube of the outer diameter of 9.53mm and of the inner diameter of 7.75mm. The length of the test section is 6m. The refrigerant mass fluxes were 200∼300kg/(m2$.$s) and the inlet pressure of the gas cooler varied from 7.5㎫ to 8.5㎫. The main results were summarized as follows : Pressure drop of CO2 increases with increasing gas cooler pressure. The friction factors of CO2 in a horizontal tube show a relatively good agreement with the correlation by Blasius. The heat transfer coefficient of CO2 in transcritical region increases with decreasing gas cooler pressure and decreasing mass flux of CO2. Most of correlations proposed in a transcritical region showed significant deviations with experimental data except for those predicted by Gnielinski.

This study was carried out numerically to investigate the air flow and thermal performance around single and parallel fin-tube heat exchangers and the cooling performance of the fluid inside the heat exchangers. In this study, the air velocity(1~7m/s), the pitch of fin(4, 6.1, 8, 11.3, 18.3, 44mm) and the diameter of fin(31, 33, 35, 37, 39mm) were varied. The flow rate of the water at the fin-tube heat exchanger inlet is 89cc/min and the water temperature is 353K. The air temperature at the upstream region of the heat exchanger is 300K. flow rate of the water at the fin-tube heat exchanger inlet is 80cc/min and the water temperature is 353K. It was found that the air pressure drop around single and parallel fin-tube heat exchangers was highly dependent on the air velocity and the fin pitch, but was independent of the fin diameter. Also, it was shown that pressure drop increased more the parallel arrangements than in single heat exchanger. The temperature difference of water at the inlet and outlet of the heat exchanger depended on the air velocity, the fin pitch and the fin diameter, and it was found that the parallel arrangement method further reduced the temperature of water. It was shown that the Nusselt number increased as the Reynolds number and the fin pitch increased, and decreased as the fin diameter increased.
