Heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics during cooling process of supercritical $CO_2$ in a horizontal tube (수평관내 이산화탄소의 냉각열전달과 압력강하 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics during cooling process of carbon dioxide in a horizontal tube. The test section is a tube in tube type heat exchanger with refrigerant flowing in the inner tube and water flowing in the annulus. It was made of a stainless steel tube with the inner diameter of 7.75 [mm], the outer 2 diameter of 9.53 [mm] and length of 6000 [mm]. The refrigerant mass fluxes were $200{\sim}400$ [kg/$m^2s$] and the average pressure varied from 7.5 [MPa] to 10.0 [MPa]. The main results were summarized as follows The heat transfer coefficient of supercritical $CO_2$ increases in decrease of the gas cooler pressure. And the heat transfer coefficient increases with respect to the increase of the refrigerant mass flux. Among some correlations proposed in a transcritical region, Bringer-Smith's correlation has some analogy with experimental results. The pressure drop decreases in increase of the gas cooler pressure and increases with respect to increase the refrigerant mass flux.

  • A numerical analysis of the heat and mass transfer and pressure drop characteristics in modular shell and tube bundle heat exchanger was carried out. Finite Concept Method based on FVM and $k-\varepsilon$ turbulent model were used for this analysis. Condensation heat transfer enhanced total heat transfer rate $4\sim8%$ higher than that of dry heat exchanger. With increasing humid air inlet velocity, temperature and relative humidity, and with decreasing heat exchanger aspect ratio and cooling water velocity, total heat and mass transfer rate could be increased. Cooling water inlet velocity had little effect on total heat transfer.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the effect on the energy consumption of an instant cooling type water purifier by the design parameters of the cooling tank. Initially, the simulation program was developed and verified. The simulation results showed that the energy consumption was reduced by replacing the shape of the cooling tank from a rectangular to a cube, increasing the evaporator length, decreasing the volume of the cooling tank, and increasing the performance of the insulator. The order of the effect magnitude on the energy consumption was as follows; volume of the cooling tank, conductivity and thickness of the insulator, shape of the cooling tank, length of the evaporator, and length of the water tube.

  • In this study, Ice slurry generator heat transfer characteristics are experimentally investigated for the ice slurry generating system with scraper which is pneumatically operated. The ice slurry generator has the same shape as the vertical double tube type heat exchanger. Refrigerant is flowing in the outside tube and ethylene glycol solution in the inside tube. Refrigerant and solution water are parallel flow type which entering bottom of generator and leaving top of generator. The experimentations are conducted under the various test conditions such as compressor speed and cooling water temperature. For the above experimental conditions, heat transfer characteristics of the ice slurry generating system are evaluated in terms of the overall heat transfer coefficient and the heat transfer rate. And the experimental results show that the heat transfer rate of the system is increased as the compressor speed increases and the cooling water temperature decreases.

  • The heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop during gas cooling process of carbon dioxide in a helically coiled tube were investigated experimentally. The experiments were conducted without oil in the refrigerant loop. The main components of the refrigerant loop are a receiver, a variable speed pump, a mass flowmeter, a pre-heater, a gas cooler(test section) and an isothermal tank. The test section is a double pipe type heat exchanger with refrigerant flowing in the inner tube and water flowing in the annulus. It was made of a copper tube with the inner diameter of 4.85 [mm], the outer diameter of 6.35 [mm] and length of 10000 [mm]. The refrigerant mass fluxes were 200${\sim}$600 [kg/$m^2$s] and the average pressure varied from 7.5 [MPa] to 10.0 [MPa]. The main results were summarized as follows: The heat transfer coefficient of supercritical $CO_2$ increases, as the cooling pressure of gas cooler decreases. And the heat transfer coefficient increases with the increase of the refrigerant mass flux. The pressure drop decreases in increase of the gas cooler pressure and increases with increase the refrigerant mass flux.

  • The main objective of this prototype is to control resonance frequency of DTL system through the temperature control of cooling water. It is to resonant frequency of the drift tube cavities to 350 MHz. This paper describes the design of a prototype cooling water skid required for the temperature control of the DTL cavities, focusing in the modeling and simulation of the cooling system, the sizing of water pumping skid component.

  • Performance of a small-capacity solar absorption cooling system was investigated experimentally. Ten sets of evacuative-tube solar-heat collectors and a 5 kW single-stage absorption cooler were combined to produce a hybrid cooling system. The performance of the cooling system was measured using a tim-coil unit installed in a small plastic storage. It was found from the test on a sunny day of May that when the temperature of the hot water supplied from the solar collectors to the generator of the absorption cooler reached $60^{\circ}C$, the absorption cooler started cooling and the cold water temperature measured from the fan-coil unit reached $18^{\circ}C$. The COP, which is defined as the ratio of the cooling power to the total electrical power input was higher than 1.0.

  • In the adoption of a desalination system the most important factor is the cost of fresh water pro-duction. In general LNG is stored in a tank as a liquid state below $-162^{\circ}C$ When it is serviced however the LNG absorbs energy from a heat source and it is transformed to a high pressure gaseous state. During this process a huge amount of cold energy accumulated in cooling LNG is wasted. This wasted cold energycan be utilized to produce fresh water by using a sea water freez-ing desalination system. in order to develop a sea water freezing desalination system and to estab-lish its design technique qualitative and quantitative data regarding the freezing behavior of sea water is required in advance. The goals of this study are to reveal the freezing mechanisms of sea water in a cooled circular tube to measure the freezing rate and to investigate the freezing heat-transfer characteristics. The experimental results provide a general understanding of sea water freezing behavior in a cooled circular tube.

  • In the present study, the possibility of continuous slurry ice making using flowing water solution in a cooled tube has been investigated. The experiments were carried out at various concentration and velocity of water solution, temperature of cooled tube wall, and control pressure in a tube. As a result, four types of operating conditions, that is super-cooling, continuous ice making, intermittent ice making and ice blockage, were classified. And it was found that the critical condition for the continuous ice making was acquired as a function of these experimental parameters.

  • This paper presents a concept of a pressure tube-type water-cooled reactor without the emergency core cooling system. It adopts an innovative fuel channel design using metallic fuel matrix to improve heat transfer from fuel to moderator at loss of coolant cooling. The heat produced in the fuel is cooled by the coolant system during normal operation, but by the passive moderator system at loss of coolant cooling including the loss-of-coolant accident(LOCA). Simple analysis shows that the fuel channel temperature can be maintained within the permissible range for both normal operation and a complete LOCA.
