산업부산물을 이용한 친환경 연소재벽돌의 제조특성 (Manufacturing Characteristics of Environmental-friendly Waste Ash Brick with Industrial By-Products)

  • The main objective of this study was to evaluate the effects on shape and size, compressive strength, water absorption and heavy metals leaching with various weight mixing ratios in waste ash brick products using waste recycling MSWI(Municipal Solid Waste Incinerator) bottom ash, steel slag and waste building material. The manufacturing processes for the waste ash brick consist of screening, mixing, conveyor transmission, compaction.forming, and curing steps of raw materials. The weight mixing ratios of steel slag around bottom ash were adjusted within the ranges of 10% to 30%. The reported results show that the width and thickness of the manufactured waste ash brick could be satisfied with $90{\pm}2mm\;and\;57{\pm}2mm$, respectively which are K.S. standards of products qualities. And in case of length, only 20-Ba50Ss30, 20-Ba60Wb20 and 20-Ba50Wb30 for the mixing ratios could be satisfied with $190{\pm}2mm$ that is K.S. standards of products quality. The compressive strength and water absorption for 20-Ba50Ss30 and 20-Ba70Wb10 were over $8N/mm^2$ and below 15% respectively that are K.S. standards of manufactured waste ash brick. The results of tests for the heavy metals leaching in the all manufactured waste ash bricks are also passed to the wastes management regulations. The cost analysis of 20-Ba50Ss30 is evaluated. The manufacturing cost is evaluated 34.3 won/brick with 8 hours and 20tons of raw material per day. Incinerators with problems in bottom ash disposal can therefore derive significant benefits from the application of waste ash brick production.

치과용 아말감에서 유리된 수은이 수질에 미치는 영향 (The Effects on Water Quality of Mercury Released from Dental Amalgam)

  • Objectives: Based on the amount of amalgam, the duration of exposure, and the water pH, this study aims to investigate the change patterns in the mercury concentrations in water after amalgams have been introduced into sewage water. It is expected that the study results will be useful in improving the system for regulating the amount of mercury that is introduced into the environment. Methods: During the study, a glass test-tube with a cap was washed and disinfected using the glass laboratory device washing method. Then, 1, 2, 3, and 4 tabs were placed into a 10 mL pH 4 solution and 10 mL pH 7 distilled water. Each specimen was prepared in duplicate. The mean of the two mercury concentrations was used as the representative value, and the mercury concentration was measured using a mercury measurement device (DMA-80, Milestone, Italy) a total of eight times at one-week intervals. Results: The results show that the lower was the pH, the higher was the amount of amalgam. Also the longer was the duration, the more significant was the increase of mercury concentration in the water. Conclusions: Dental clinics are collected separately from dental clinics that used them. Given this, dental clinics in Korea must have the necessary facilities to separately collect mercury at their level. In addition, proper disposal systems and social attention to the proper management of dental wastes are required to prevent environmental pollution from mercury.

조선시대 자연환경보전에 관한 연구 (A Study on Conservation of the Natural Environment in Chosun-Dynasty, Korea)

  • Conservation of the natural environiment In chosun-Dynasty, Korea, is analysed on the basis of the of official records of the king's offices(Chosun-wangjo-sillok). In the popular ideologies of the dynasty, Seongleehak(philosophy of humanity arid natural laws) and Pungsu (geomancy) , the naturnal enviroment is defined as an entity con-sisting of Cheon (heaven) , San(mnountains) , Su (water), Geumsu (animals)and Chomok (plants) .the notion of Tacksi-Tackmul(being careful to take natural resources at the right time) was one of the Cheonmyung (eavenly decrees) . It was believed that violation of this principle resulted in natural disasters. Sasan(four mountains surrounding Hansungbu-, the capital city, now Seoul) , were strictly preserved according to geomancy practices. In areas other than the capital city, Sanlimcheontack (mountains, forests, rivers and ponds) were con-served for sustained production of building materials especially pinetrees for ship building, foods, firewoods, horses, and orter useful natural resources. Various conservation policy insturuments were adopted. Prunning trees was permitted only in October. Capturing fishes was allowed only after the spawning period. Protection areas were designated in Sasan, Seongjoesiplee (surroundings of the capital city) , Geumsan(protected mountains), Kangmujang(hunting and army training grounds), Sijang(firewood areas), Mokmajang(horse ranches) and Neungyuk(royal tombs) . Activities prohibited for conservation purposes included cutting timbers, burning, building houses or tombs, dumping wastes, farming and breaking up fresh land, grazing, hunting and trespassing. Positive actions for conservation were rituals to Heaven ennoblement of natural elements such as mountians or rivers, planting trees, Boto (supplementing soil on low ridges) , Josan (mounding) and making ponds. Boto, Josan and making ponds were to make ideal terrains for geomancy. Many government bodies and civil servants were engaged in the conservation activities. For example, Sanjik(forest keeper) was a special position with responsibility for forest management.

  • 상수원으로 사용하고 있는 주요 하천으로의 위해물질의 유입은 정수장에서의 고도기술을 요구하게 된다. 그러므로 산업폐수로부터 방류되는 이들 미량유해화학물질의 모니터링을 적절하게 하는 것은 위해도 저감 뿐 만 아니라 하천관리의 경제성도 증가시킬 수 있다. 본 연구를 통해 모니터링 한 여러 미량 유해화학물질 중에서 산업폐수의 방류수에서 검출된 오염물질 중 가장 주요한 항목은 Hexachlorobutadiene 였다. 그러나 반도체, 전기/전자 및 금속조립 산업폐수로 구성된 Group II에서는 모든 항목이 불검출로 나타났다. 따라서 향후 상수원 수질개선 및 보호를 하기 위해 모니터링 항목을 선정하는데 있어서는 해당 수계로 부하되는 물질들의 특성과 거동을 제대로 파악하기 위한 사전모니터링을 실시하여 시간, 노력 및 경제적인 손실을 최소화하여 효율적인 상수원관리를 해야 한다.

경기도 학교급식 음식물쓰레기 발생 실태 및 잔반 감량화 방안 (Generation of Food Waste and Plate Waste Reduction Strategies in School Food Services in Gyeonggi Province)

  • Objectives: The purposes of the study were to assess wastes generated in school foodservice and to identify factors influencing the generation of plate waste. Methods: A survey was administered from November 18-30 in 2015 to dietitians and nutrition teachers that were employed in schools located in Gyeonggi province. A questionnaire file and on-line survey site link were sent to the dietitians and nutrition teachers by e-mail. A total of 622 dietitians and nutrition teachers responded and 594 responses were used for data analysis after excluding 28 responses with significant missing data. Results: Plate waste was the major part of food waste generated in school foodservice. Vegetable menus and soup/stews were discarded the most as plate waste. The dietitians and nutrition teachers perceived students' unbalanced diet and lack of appreciation of food as causes of the plate waste. Regarding waste management, they were concerned about environmental contamination by food waste and felt uncomfortable about discarding food. No plate waste day was the most frequently used plate waste reduction activity, followed by newsletters on plate waste reduction. Difficulty in getting teachers' support for dietary education during meal time was rated the greatest barrier to implementing the activities. To reduce plate waste, they perceived that students should understand the importance of environment conservation, teachers should supervise students' eating during meal time, students should be educated about proper portion, and foodservice staff should improve food quality. Conclusions: To improve students' intake and reduce plate waste in school foodservice, foodservice staff need to involve students in school foodservice and improve the palatability of meals, especially vegetable dishes. School nutrition teachers and dietitians should educate students about healthy eating and environment conservation and the school community needs to understand and support plate waste reduction and healthy eating in schools.

인터넷에서 혼잡제어를 위한 적응적 사이클 패킷 폐기 기법과 비적응적 사이클 패킷 폐기 기법의 분석 (Analysis of Adaptive Cycle Packet Drop and Non-Adaptive Cycle Packet Drop for Congestion Control in Internet)

  • 적응적 패킷 폐기 기법과 비적응적 패킷 폐기 기법은 차별화된 서비스에서 사용하는 RIO 메커니즘보다 엄격한 패킷 폐기 기능을 제공한다. 특히 적응적 사이클 패킷 폐기기법은 사이클 사이의 트래픽 패턴을 분석하여 혼잡제어시에 패킷폐기를 적응적으로 처리함으로써 우선 순위 처리면에서 우수하다. 본 논문에서는 두 알고리즘에 대한 모델링을 제공하고, 망 트래픽의 상태에 따라 동적으로 변하는 전송가능 우선순위와 연계하여 시뮬레이션을 수행하여 처리율과 패킷 폐기율을 분석하였다. 분석을 통하여 두 알고리즘은 트래픽의 부하에 상관없이 RIO 보다 우선순위를 엄격하게 적용하고 우선순위에 따른 패킷 전송 능력이 개선되었음을 증명하였다. 특히 적응적 사이클 패킷 폐기 기법이 RIO 또는 비적응적 사이클 패킷 폐기 기법보다 엄격한 패킷 폐기 정책을 유지하고 우선순위 측면에서 보다 좋은 성능을 나타내었다.

수거체계 및 재활용 인식조사를 통한 기저귀 수거방안 연구 (Research on Collection Method of Used Diaper Based on Foreign Collection Method and Perception Survey)

  • 본 연구는 기저귀 재활용을 정책적으로 도입 시 최적의 수거방안을 마련하고자 해외 사례조사를 통해 국내 실정에 맞는 적절한 방안을 제안하고, 실제 수거에서 발생할 수 있는 문제점을 파악하고자 시민들 대상으로 인식조사를 실시하여 사회적 수용도를 높일 수 있는 방안에 대해 조사하였다. 조사 결과 시민들은 경제적 부담 및 위생문제 해결을 위한 방안 마련이 중요하다고 인식하고 있었고, 주거지 근처 전용 수거함에 전용봉투를 통한 주 2회 수거 빈도가 적절하다고 응답하였다. 현행 폐기물관리법 상 재활용 대상이 되는 생활폐기물의 경우 지자체 단위로 업체와 개별 계약을 통해 수거되고 있기 때문에 사용 후 기저귀 역시 현행 방식과 동일하게 지자체 수거 위탁 시스템을 활용하여 자원회수시설에서 최종 처리하는 방안이 적절할 것으로 보인다. 이러한 관점에서 지자체 연계를 통한 시범사업을 가정하고 최적의 지자체를 선정하는 방안을 위해 여러 대안을 제시하였다. 향후 기저귀 재활용을 전 사회적으로 도입할 때 본 연구 조사결과를 통해 도출된 수거방식을 고려하여 인구밀집 지역을 대상으로 시범사업을 기획, 설계하여 운영한다면 보다 경제성이 확보된 결과를 도출할 수 있을 것으로 보인다.

Characterisation and Co-pyrolytic Degradation of the Sawdust and Waste Tyre Blends to Study the Effect of Temperature on the Yield of the Products

  • The present study aimed to determine the effect of co-pyrolysis of sawdust biomass and scrap tyre waste employing different blending ratios of sawdust to waste tyre such as 100:0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75, and 0:100. The thermochemical characterization of feedstocks was carried out by employing the proximate, ultimate analysis, and thermogravimetric (TGA) analyses, calorific values, and scanning electron microscope coupled with energy dispersive x-ray analysis (SEM-EDX) to select the blending ratio having better bioenergy potential amongst the studied ratios. The blending ratio of 25:75 (sawdust to waste tyre) was selected for the co-pyrolysis study in a fixed-bed pyrolysis reactor system based on its solid biofuels properties such as heating value (30.18 MJ/kg), and carbon (71.81 wt%) and volatile matter (63.82 wt%) contents. The pyrolysis temperatures were varied as 500, 600 and 700 ℃ while the other parameters such as heating rate and nitrogen flowrate were maintained at 30 ℃/min and 0.5 L/min respectively. The bio-oil yields as 31.9, 47.1 and 61.2 wt%, bio-char yields as 34.5, 34.2 and 31.4 wt% and gaseous product yields as 33.6, 18.60 and 7.3 wt% at the pyrolysis temperatures of 500, 600 and 700 ℃ respectively were obtained. The blends of sawdust and waste tyres showed the improved energy characteristics which could provide the solution for the beneficial management of sawdust and scrape tyre wastes via co-pyrolysis processing.

Melting and draining tests on glass waste form for the immobilization of Cs, Sr, and rare-earth nuclides using a cold-crucible induction melting system

  • Cold-crucible induction melting (CCIM) technology has been intensively studied as an advanced vitrification process for the immobilization of highly radioactive waste. This technology uses high-frequency induction to melt a glass matrix and waste, while the outer surface of the crucible is water-cooled, resulting in the formation of a frozen glass layer (skull). In this study, for the fabrication of borosilicate glass waste form, CCIM operation test with 60 kg of glass per batch was conducted using surrogate wastes composed of Cs, Sr, and Nd as a representative of highly radioactive nuclides generated during spent nuclear fuel management. A 60 kg-scale glass waste form was successfully fabricated through melting and draining processes using a CCIM system, and its physicochemical properties were analyzed. In particular, to enhance the controllability and reliability of the draining process, an air-cooling drain control method that can control draining through air-cooling near drain holes was developed, and its validity for draining control was verified. The method can offer controllability on various draining processes, such as molten salt or molten metal draining processes, and can be applied to a process requiring high throughput draining.

미세플라스틱 필름의 프로시미돈과 3,5-다이클로로아닐린 흡착 특성 (Sorption Characteristics of Procymidone and 3,5-Dichloroaniline on Microplastic Films)

  • Microplastics are generated by the breakdown of plastic wastes in agricultural soil and residual pesticides in agricultural soil can adsorb on microplastics. In this study, the sorption characteristics of procymidone (PCM) and one of its metabolites, 3,5-dichloroaniline (DCA), on low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) microplastics were investigated. The sorption and desorption tests were carried out for 72 h using LDPE or PVC microplastic films to study the sorption isotherms of PCM and DCA and kinetics for sorption and desorption of PCM. The results show that the sorption data of PCM and DCA were better described by the Freundlich isotherm model (R2=0.7568-0.9915) than the Langmuir isotherm model (R2=0.0545-0.5889). The sorption potential of PVC for both PCM and DCA was greater than that of LDPE. The sorption data of PCM on PVC and LDPE were fitted better to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model than the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The PCM sorption on LDPE was about three times faster than that on PVC. Both microplastic films released the sorbed PCM back to water, and more PCM was released from PVC than LDPE, but the desorption rate was faster with LDPE than PVC. Overall, the results show that different microplastics have different sorption characteristics for different chemicals. Also, the sorbed chemicals can be released back to environment suggesting the potential of contaminant spread by microplastics. Thus, the management practices of microplastics in agricultural soil need to consider their interaction with the chemical contaminants in soil.
