  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the damping properties of polyurethane composites incorporating waste tire rubber powder and preplaced coarse aggregates. Four types of polyurethane-based composites were manufactured, and longitudinal impact tests were performed. And vibration signals in the time domain and frequency domain were measured and values of damping ratio for each specimen were calculated. Test results showed that the damping ratios of polyurethane composites, in which the amount of polyurethane was reduced by 10.6% and 21.2% through incorporation of rubber particles, were 8.4% and 4.6% lower than that of pure polyurethane. The damping ratio of the polyurethane composite produced in a similar manner to the prepact concrete production method was found to be 22% lower than that of pure polyurethane, however, the amount of polyurethane was reduced by 50% and the stiffness was 25.7 times higher than that of pure polyurethane.

  • Resource recovery and recycling of materials and products, including polyurethanes is viewed as a necessity in today's society. Most urethane polymers are made from a polyol and a diisocyanate. these and be chemicals such as water, diamines or diols that react with isocyanate groups and add to the polymer backbone. The problems of recycling polyurethane wastes has major technological, economic and ecological significance because polyurethane itself is relatively expensive and its disposal whether by burning is also costly. In general, the recycling methods for polyurethane could be classified as mechanical, chemical and feedstock. In the chemical recycling method, there are hydrolysis, glycolysis, pyrolysis and aminolysis. This study, the work was carried out glycolysis using sonication ant catalyzed reaction. Different kinds of recycled polyols were produced by current method(glycolysis), catalyzed reaction and sonication as decomposers and the chemical properties were analyzed. The reaction results in the formation of polyester urethane diols, the OH value which is determined by the quantity of diol used for the glycolysis conditions. The glycolysis rates by sonication for the various glycols, increased as fallows: PPG

  • Flame retardancy and mechanical properties of polyolefinic mixed waste plastics/filler composites were investigated by using inorganic flame retardant(magnesium hydroxide) and PUB(polyurethane block) powder generated from cryogenic insulation process. All composites were obtained by extrusion and after compression molding. The effect of PUB powder on the properties of the composites was studied by tensile and izod impact test, morphology studies and flammability as LOI and UL94 vertical burning test and smoke density. The objective of this work is to obtain good mechanical properties from recycled PP composites with $Mg(OH)_{2}/PUB$ powder as fillers and optimum cost-performance balance, in addition to flame retardant characteristics.

  • The waste FRP occured in the fabrication of SMC (sheet molding compound) bathtubs and the waste polyurethane foam occured in electronic manufacture and waste insulator were applied as a soundproof and light weight pannel in the waste FRP unsaturated polyester matrix resin composites to recycle. The effect of filler contents on the mechanical properties and interfacial phenomena of the filler and matrix on the composites was evaluated. The tensile strength of composites reached its maximum value of 82.34 MPa when the filler content was 70 wt%, and the more content of reinforcement is increased, the more tensile modulus was decreased. The flexural strength and modulus of composites, reinforced 70 wt% with filler content, were dominant compared to the other samples to 72.5 MPa, 958.4 MPa respectively. When composite of reinforced 70 wt% with filler content, it was confirmed that pull out phenomena and cracks did not occur in the interface of reinforcement and matrix resin through the SEM observation. Also, waste FRP and urethane foam were dispersed well into matrix resin as filler.

  • Nowadays, recycling of waste materials is one of great attention among all industries. Especially, the waste tires become a significant problem with increasing in a number of automobiles. For recycling of the waste tires, a polyurethane binder was mixed with the scrapped rubber powders obtained from tread part of the waste tire. This study covered the effect of processing conditions;curing temperature and curing time;on the mechanical properties of the blend. We also compared the experimental results from labors-tory scale with those from scale-up.

  • Biological treatment using the activated sludge method and biofilm process has been developed for paper wastewater treatment. It is known that a water treatment using biofilm process has a high efficiency be-cause a great deal of microorganism could adhere to media. It is also known that various plastics such as polyurethane and polyethylene have been used as the media. In this study polyethylene was used as a media and rice straw an additive agent to improve porous and hydrophilic properties of the media for waste water treatment. Porosity and hydrophilic characteristics of polyethylene was increased as rice straw was added to polyethylene. Paper wastewater was then treated with newly developed environment materials. Rice straw showed excellent results in waste water treatment in various media. This environmentally friendly material prepared by polyethylene and rice straw could show similar results to those of a commercial porous polyurethane foam in wastewater treatment.

  • In this study, the effect of phosphorus flame retardants on the flame retardancy of the flexible polyurethane foam (PUF) was investigated. Tetramethylene bis(orthophosphorylurea) [TBPU] and phosphinyl alkylphosphate ester [CR-530], resorcinol bis diphenylphosphate [RDP], triethyl phosphate [TEP] were used as flame retardants. The results of thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) indicate that TBPU added PUF produces more charred residues than the other flame retardant added PUF. It was found that TBPU added PUF exhibits low mean heat release rate (HRR), peak HRR, effective heat of combusion (EHC), mass loss rate (MLR), CO yield and $CO_2$ compared to those other flame retardants.

  • In view of environmental considerations, the control of carbon dioxide (CO2) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is one of important issues in the film and coating industries. Therefore, UV-curable system has been developed due to minimize emissions of VOCs and reduce CO2 emission due to low energy consumption from fast curing. Also, biodegradable polymers economically are attractive because of environmental and economic concerns associated with huge waste plastics. In this study, UV-curable polyurethane acrylates with different compositions of biodegradable polylactide (PLA) diol and poly(ethylene glycol) as diols were synthesized and curing reaction of their end-capped acrylates was performed by UV exposure. Tensile strength, elongation, and Tg of the UV-cured polyurethane acrylates increased with PLA diol content in the diol while their hydrophilicity and thermal stability increased with the PEG content. These results indicated a property of UV-cured polyurethane acrylates could be controlled by environment-friendly diols.
