  • This study empirically examined the effects of data warehousing methodology on the success of data warehousing. Research model and two hypotheses were set up to identify the relationships among two types of data warehousing methodology(top-down/bottom-up, dw configuration) and success based on the investigations of such theories as data warehousing, data warehousing methodology, IS success and so forth. And the survey instrument(questionnaire) was developed to collect data. Ultimately 183 questionnaires from 61 korean firms were collected. Findings showed that two types of data warehousing methodology affect significant effect on the success of data warehousing.

  • The combination of data warehousing and Internet technology produces a new concept - web warehousing. Due to the availability of web technologies and the need to make prompt decisions with timely information, web warehousing is emerging as a key strategic business weapon. Yet despite the many promising benefits of web warehousing, researchers have also identified several challenges, including scalability and availability. With the rise of the Internet and data centric computing applications, the use of new Storage Area Network (SAN) technology has been spotlighted for the possibility of a new data repository for web warehousing. In this article, the two new concepts of web warehousing and storage area networks are introduced. In particular, a SAN is discussed in detail as an alternative data repository to overcome the current limitations of web warehousing.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the spatial distribution and the linkage characteristics of the warehousing industry in Busan and to provide the policy implications for the warehousing industry in Korean port hinterland. We surveyed the warehousing firms in Busan. Categorizing the warehousing industry into industry types, sizes, and organization types on the basis of the survey, we attempted the point pattern analysis and the proximity analysis using the GIS. The warehousing industry in Busan had changed from a small single-unit firm to a medium or a large firm with a head office or branches. These were distributed in hinterland of North Harbor, South Harbor & Gamcheon Harbor, and Sin-Pyoung & Jang-Rim industrial complex and Sasang Industrial Complex constituting the spatial agglomeration. The warehousing industry in Busan formed the linkages with other sectors of the same logistics to provide manufacturing industries with various other services as well as storage services. The linkages were largely formed in the local scope with spatial proximity, generating the economic gains of agglomeration, which were transformed into the efficiency of the warehousing industry in the local scope to gradually expand the spatial dimensions of the linkages.

  • Warehouse planning or design is not a static, one-time activity. To survive in the constantly changing market warehouse design should be a continuous process in which the anticipated requirment are reflected on the current warehouse status. Thus, the goal of warehouse management is to effectively utilize the various warehouse resources to meet the varying customer requirment. This paper presents an engineering framework for warehousing system analysis and design from the perspective of a total system approach. The complexity pertinent to warehousing system analysis and design is first discussed, which mainly come from the interplay among product data, order data, equipment types, operating strategies, and functional specification of the overall system. The understanding of the complexity leads to a general structure and a conceptual design procedure for a warehousing system. The general structure is comprehensive enough to represent most warehousing and flexible enough to accommodate the more sophisticated ones. The conceptual design procedure portrays the high-level interelationships the design issues.

  • The IT implementation literature suggests that various implementation factors play critical roles in the success of an information system; however, there is little empirical research about the implementation of data warehousing systems has unique characteristics that may impact the importance of factors that apply to it. In this study, a cross-sectional survey investigated a model of data warehousing success. Data warehousing managers and data suppliers from 51 organizations completed paired mail questionnaires on implementation factors and the success of the warehouse. The purpose of this study is to identify which factors have a positive impact on the successful implementation of DW among organizational implementation success, project implementation success, and technical implementation success which are selected as implementation factors of DW. To do so, this study comprehensively analyze the previous studies on the success factors of the information system and DW to develop the study model and set the hypothesized. Then, it verified the hypothesis via the empirical analysis after collecting the materials through the survey. Finally, the discussion of the study's results, offered the implications of the findings, and the conclusions of the findings followed.

  • Logistics companies distinguish between medium-sized business and small business according to the size of enterprises. Of course, conglomerates are called global corporations. In this study, mid-sized companies over a certain size or more and those below are classified and decide the priorities among important factors to secure competitiveness in logistics companies are determined through AHP technique. Mid-sized companies are companies that can provide more than two logistics services. For example, they provide warehousing and transportation services in the same time. small companies are companies that can mostly provide one functional service. Warehousing, transportation, manpower, and information are listed as factors in this study. As a result of the study, medium-sized companies emphasized on the importance of transportation. When it comes to small companies, warehousing was emphasized as an important factor. Due to the simultaneous and contemporary service of warehousing and transportation in small-sized company, the reliable image of the company will be underestimated in case of delays in transportation. Competitiveness will also be weakened. Global corporations or conglomerates will start to consider relocating warehousing areas to others except for the central storage hub. They won't plan to invest directly, either. Therefore, it will be possible to secure competitiveness by providing the function of warehousing and to signed easily partnership.

  • The purpose of this research is to be acquainted with the awareness and approval of halal supply chain among Indian manufacturers and distribution network members for haulage and warehousing activities from the perception of respective service suppliers. A total of 20 respondents, which consist of 10 transportation companies and 10 warehousing companies from the State of Andhra Pradesh in India were selected for the study by using purposive sampling method. The principal focal points of the discussions are on awareness and adoption of halal transportation and warehousing services chosen for the study in the comprehensive halal supply chain. A total of 90 percent and 70 percent of respondents from the transportation and warehousing companies respectively agreed that they know only about the concept of halal but do not have any exposure and ken on the halal supply chain. However, findings of this research won't have extensive validity in the market, gaining an enough familiarity with the halal supply chain in the Indian social context is of immense importance. This is a pioneering attempt aimed to investigate the awareness and adoption levels of halal supply chain among Indian businessmen which are precious for supply chain companies to customize their services in the country as well to the world of academia.

  • This paper considers the value of warehousing contract under probabilistic demands. We consider a supply chain consisting of a supplier, a retailer and its third-party warehousing partner who provides the warehousing service to the retailer through an outsourcing contract. A typical contract is specified by initial space commitment and modification schedule. The retailer decides the order quantity for the supplier and space commitment for the outsourcing contract. Since there is close relationship between order quantity and space commitment to minimize the total cost including ordering cost, inventory carrying cost, shortage cost, and warehousing cost, we develop an analytical model under probabilistic demands, where the retailer can determine the optimal order size and space commitment level jointly. We found the closed-form optimum for a single-period case and the optimal conditions for a two-period case. To evaluate the value of contract flexibility for the two-period case, we compared the total cost under two policies; one with modification, under which the base commitment can be changed at the start of each period and the other without modification. From results of our numerical analysis, we showed that the modification policy is more cost-effective as the variability of demand increases.

Data warehousing managers and data suppliers from 51 organizations completed paired mail questionnaires on implementation factors and the success of the warehouse. The results from a regression analysis of the data identified relationships between the system quality and data quality factors and perceived net benefits. It was found that management support and resources help to address organizational issues that arise during warehouse implementations, resources, user participation, and highly-skilled project team members increase the likelihood that warehousing projects will finish on-time, on-budget, with the right functionality; and diverse, unstandardized source systems and poor development technology will increase the technical issues that project teams must overcome. The implementation's success with organizational and project issues, in turn, influence the system quality of the data warehouse; however, data quality is best explained by factors not included in the research model.
