Applicability of Various Biomasses to Pulverized Coal Power Plants in Terms of their Grindability (다양한 바이오매스의 분쇄도 실험을 통한 미분탄 화력발전 적용가능성 연구)

  • Recently usage of biomass is increased in pulverized coal power plants for reduction of $CO_2$ emission. Many problems arise when thermal share of the biomass is increased, and milling of the biomasses is one of the most important problems due to their low grindability when existing coal pulverizer is used. Grindability of coal can be measured through the HGI (Hardgrove grindability index) equipment as a standard, but method of measuring biomass grindability has not been established yet. In this study, grinding experiment of coal and biomass was performed using a lab-scale ball mill. One type of coal (Adaro coal) and six biomasses (wood pellet (WP), empty fruit bunch (EFB), palm kernel shell (PKS), walnut shell (WS), torrefied wood chip (TBC) and torrefied wood pellet (TWP)) were used in the experiment. Particle size distributions of the fuels were measured after being milled in various pulverization times. Pulverization characteristics were evaluated by portion of particles under the diameter of $75{\mu}m$. As a result, about 70% of the TBC and TWP were observed to be pulverized to sizes of under $75{\mu}m$, which implies that they can be used as alternative biomass fuels without modification of the existing mill. Other biomass was observed to have low grindability compared with torrefied biomass. Power consumption of the mill for various fuels was measured as well, and the results show that lower power was consumed for torrefied biomasses. This result can be used for characterization of biomass as an alternative fuel for pulverized coal power plants.

A Study on the Awareness and a Method to Popularize Korean Traditional Sweets (한과류의 인지도와 대중화 방안에 관한 연구)

  • This study aimed to gauge the public awareness of the cultural value and superiority of Korean traditional sweets. Furthermore, it evaluated the obstacles that the Korean traditional sweet industry faces in the modern society, and a method to popularize it. It also analyzed the awareness of Korean traditional sweets. Both male and female study subjects showed the highest awareness of yakgwa and the lowest of chasugwa. Female respondents showed significantly (p<0.05~p<0.001) higher awareness of Osaekdasik, Hukimjadasik, Bellflower-junggwa, and Genseng-junggwa than male respondents. Maejakgwa, Osaekdasik, Rice-dasik, and Hukimjada- sik showed significant difference in awareness by the area survey respondents originated. Contrarily, Walnut-gangjung had significantly (p<0.001) higher awareness in rural areas than in more urban areas (e.g., large cities and small and medium-sized cities). Both male and female respondents answered (OR indicated) that the obstacles facing the Korean traditional sweet industry are uncommon products and expensive price. Both male and female respondents said that they had Korean traditional sweets less because it was harder to purchase than western sweets (due to limited access to these sweets), less delicious, and too expensive. Both male and female respondenst suggested that the urgent tasks to popularize the Korean traditional sweets were diversification in shape and ingredient, developing various new flavors, and cheaper products. Both male and female respondents responded that product diversification and strengthened marketing were urgent tasks to industrialize Korean traditional sweets. Therefore, it was believed that failure in generalization was the urgent problem of the Korean traditional sweet industry, and that Korean traditional sweets were harder to purchase because of lower accessibility than western sweets. To popularize Korean traditional sweets, it may be necessary to develop sweets in various shapes and ingredients, flavors suiTable to modern people, become cheaper in price, and have fancier (OR better) packaging.

Quality Characteristics of Basil Pesto added with Various Nuts during Storage (견과류를 달리하여 제조한 바질 페스토의 저장 중의 품질특성)

  • Pesto were prepared with five different nuts including pine nut, sunflower seed, pumpkin seed, walnut and almond to examine the antioxidant properties(total polyphenols, total flavonoids, electron donating ability) and sensory test(attribute difference, acceptance). Pesto were measured based on color value, pH, viscosity, total cell numbers for 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 days at $4^{\circ}C$. The higher total phenol and total flavonoid content of pesto added with various nuts was higher antioxidant capacity. Basil pesto added with sunflower seeds and walnuts were considered to be more functional more than pine nuts addition. The attribute difference test results was the color intensity, nut taste, bitter taste, coarseness, oily taste, thickness were evaluated significant difference kinds of nuts. Gloss, basil flavor, nuts flavor, basil taste were not evaluated significant difference in kind of nuts. The preference test results reveal that the appearance, taste, texture and overall preference level was the highest in PNP(pinenut pesto) and SSP(sunflower seed). L value, pH, decrease while a value, b value and viscosity increased as kind of nuts in during storage. Total cell number increased and then decreased a little at a certain point. When prepared pesto, SSP(sunflower seed) was the highest in antioxidant property, and change of color value, pH, viscosity, total cell number were the lowest. In addition to the use of pine nuts, sunflower seeds have been identified are possible.

  • In this study, the kinds of Dog Meat Cooking, the frequency of them, the ingredients, and the variation of recipes written in the books from 1670 to 1943 in Korea were studied. 1. There were 14 Dog Meat recipes in the literature. And the number dishes is 50. Among these, Jeung (steaming in seasoning:(蒸) had the highest frequency, 20(40%), which has played a main role. Kaeng or Tang (soup:(羹,湯) has appeared 12 times (24%) and Eikin koki dasi chinun bup (steaming twice), Kujang(steaming with white onions:((狗醬) 4 times (8%), respectively. 2. The number of sesonings was 22, the major ones according to the frequencies were oil and soy sauce(34.7%), sesame-seed powder(32.6%), pepper(30.4%), vinegar(30.4%), soy sauce (23.9%), red pepper powder(21.7%(, sesame-seed oil(19.5%), Mancho powder(19.5%), and Chuncho powder(19.5%). 3. Five ingradients were found, among which onion was most widely used(28.2%), Parsley(17.3%), Kyeyun(8.6%), leek(2.1%), and walnut(2.1%) have also appeared.

Wheat-Rice Double Cropping System in Rice Fields of the Cheonan Area for the Production of Domestic Wheat (국산밀 생산을 위한 천안지역 논에서의 밀-벼 이모작 작부체계)

  • In order to select the best varieties and cultivation methods for the production of domestic wheat for Hodugwaja(a walnut shaped confection), we carried out a 3-year experiment (2015~2017) to investigate the effect of different factors (crop variety, planting date, nitrogen fertilization) in a double cropping system (wheat then rice) on crop yields in the Cheonan area. Rice is the second crop in the system, and requires an accumulated temperature for 40 days of about $840{\sim}930^{\circ}C$ to ensure ripening. Transplanting dates for rice between June 29 and July 6 were suitable; transplanting on or after July 13 does not ensure ripening. The daily hours of sunshine ranged from 6.3 to 6.5 hours, which were slightly higher than the optimum of 6.0 to 6.1 hours. The higher the nitrogen fertilizer treatment, the higher culm length, and spike length of wheat. The yield of wheat per 10a tended to increase as the amount of nitrogen fertilizer increased. Wheat yields were highest for the Sooan variety, followed by Goso, followed by Keumgang. The number of days from transplanting to heading of rice were shortest for the Jopyeong variety followed by Unkwang, followed by Haedam. The yield of milled rice per 10a increased as the transplanting date was earlier and the transplanting date of June 9 showed the average yield of more than 500 kg in three varieties. From the results of the experiment, we recommend the Goso wheat variety and the Haedam rice variety for growing in a double cropping system under the climatic conditions of the Cheonan area.

  • 도시화로 인한 불투수면의 증가는 물순환 왜곡, 비점오염원 발생 및 수생태계 건상성 훼손 등을 야기시키며, 이를 해결하기 위하여 다양한 LID 기법을 적용하고 있다. 일반적으로 LID 내 적용 되는 여재들은 무기성여재로 중량이 크고 미세공극의 부재로 물리화학적 및 생물학적 저감기능이 제한적이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 중량성이 낮은 생물폐자원을 선정하여 LID 시설 적용성평가를 수행하고자 한다. 생물폐자원은 발생량, 경량성 및 용이성을 고려하여 꼬막껍질(CS)과 호두껍질(WS)을 선정하였다. 생물폐자원의 산화부식을 고려하여 무기성 여재인 화산석과 혼합하여 Bioretention 시설에 적용하였으며, 여재 혼합비율에 따라 총 3가지의 Case 로 구성하였다. 식생은 구절초와 꽃댕강나무를 식재하였으며, 여재의 물리적 특성 분석을 위하여 적용 전과 후의 SEM(Scanning Electronic Microscope)을 수행하였다. 모니터링은 도로퇴적물 100g과 물 110L를 제조하여 인공강우유출수를 이용하여 수행하였으며, $0.0003{\sim}0.007m^3/sec$의 유속으로 주입하였다. 시설의 유입 및 유출부에서 유량 측정 및 수질 시료를 채취하였으며, 채취된 시료는 수질오염공정 시험법에 준하여 입자상 물질, 유기물, 영양물질 및 중금속 등을 분석하였다. Bioretention 시설의 모니터링 결과를 이용하여 물수지 및 TSS 저감 효율을 산정하였으며. 물수지 분석결과 시설의 저류율은 Case 1(soil) > Case 3(WS+RV) > Case 2(CS+RV) 순으로 나타났다. 시설 내 공극률이 가장 낮았던 Case 1에서 저류율이 약 55%로 가장 높게 것으로 분석되었다. Case 3(WS+RV)은 Case 2(WS+RV)와 시설 내 공극률이 유사함에도 불구하고 저류율이 약 10% 높은 것으로 분석되었다. 오염물질 저감효율 분석 결과, TSS와 TP의 제거효율은 모든 Case에서 약 75% 이상으로 높게 나타났으며, COD의 경우 모래를 적용한 Case 1에 비해 생물폐자원인 꼬막껍질과 호두껍질을 적용한 Case에서 약 1.3배 이상 높게 나타났다. 호두껍질과 꼬막껍질의 SEM 분석 결과 표면에 다공성이 형성되어 있는 것으로 조사되었다. 이는 여과 및 저류기작으로 인한 물순환 효과증대와 다공성과 돌기사이로 인한 입자상의 물질 여과 및 흡착으로 인하여 오염물질의 제거효율이 증대 된 것으로 평가된다. LID시설 내 생물폐자원과 무기성여재를 적절히 배합하여 복합여재로 조성할 경우 침하현상을 방지할 뿐만 아니라 저류 및 침투기능 향상과 미생물의 서식환경을 제공하기에 물순환 회복 및 비점오염물질 저감에 기여할 것으로 평가된다.

  • Through the excavated excellent articles of the Tang era, we have considered the building techniques and styles of a square pavilion, an octagonal pavilion, a miniature hill, a pond, etc., could read building techniques of the scenic structures on ancient literatures including records and additionally about their poetical life at that time and inquired into the arrangement, structure, building techniques, etc. of a miniature hill, a pond, a pavilion, a flowerplant, etc., on Nakyangmyungwonki. Thus, under the research on the private landscape architecture, especially the nobility gardening, around excavated excellent articles and literatures, 'A miniature hill(假山) and a pond for landscaping views formed the center of a garden, and additionally a pavilion was built and flowerplants were set. The miniature hill of laying stones and having a carven, steeping, stratifying, looking like dyed green and birds' singing among hills and eating water on the lakeshore${\ldots}$' was expressed. The pond of digging in the ground and conducting water had its water system developed. There were several kinds of pavilions such as 廳, 堂, 館, 亭, 臺, 樓, 閣, 榭, etc. As examples of landscaping plants, there were a bamboo, a lotus flower, a peony, aromatic trees a pine, a korean spindle tree, a big cone pine, an empress tree, a wild walnut, a peach, a plum, a Japanese apricot tree, an apricot tree, a chrysanthemum, arrowroot vines, etc. Thus, the garden of the Tang era, abundant, diverse and excellent, enjoyed the prime of the period of prosperity. Due to cultural exchange, it is supposed that the period of united Shilla of the same age would meet with the period of prosperity in the developmental history of Korea landscape, based on the nobility garden system '4 different dwelling-houses every season on a record "四節游宅"'.

Scientific Analysis and Conservation Treatment of the Wooden Gamsil with Inscription of "Botajeon" in the Collection of the Dongguk University Museum (동국대박물관 소장 보타전명 목조감실 과학적 분석 및 보존처리)

  • The Wooden Gamsil with Inscription of "Botajeon" in the collection of the Dongguk University Museum was made in imitation of the wooden architecture style of the late Joseon period. The Gamsil had suffered exfoliation in the pigment and loss of components and thus underwent conservation treatment. Prior to the conservation treatment, the damage was classified by type and form, scientific analysis was carried out on the fiber and the species of wood, and portable X-ray fluorescence (P-XRF) analysis was conducted for the pigment component analysis. According to the analyses, Korea Pine(Soft pine) was used for most parts of the Gamsil, Manchurian walnut (Jugalns spp.) was used for the signboard, and the fiber used was identified as rice straw (Oryza sativa). The P-XRF identified white lead and zinc oxide in the white pigment, red lead in the red pigment, ultramarine blue in the blue pigment, and emerald green in the green pigment. For the conservation treatment, contaminants attached to the gamsil were removed by both dry and wet cleaning, detached parts were reattached in their original places, and lost parts were restored.

Rating of Fire Risk of Combustible Materials by the New Chung's Equation-IX (새로운 Chung's equation-IX에 의한 연소성 물질의 화재 위험성 등급 평가)

  • To evaluate the fire risk of combustible materials, Chung's equations VII, VIII, and IX were newly established. The fire risk index-IX (FRI-IX) and fire risk rating (FRR) were calculated. Ginkgo, dawn redwood, toona, lime, walnut, and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) were selected as test specimens. The combustion characteristics were evaluated using a cone calorimeter according to ISO 5660-1. After combustion, the fire performance index-VII (FPI-VII) of the specimens, varied between 15.15 and 182.53 s2/kW, as determined by Chung's equations, and the fire growth index-VII (FGI-VII) varied between 0.0023 and 0.0165 kW/s2. The fire performance index-VIII (FPI-VIII) based on PMMA varied between 0.29 and 3.45, and the fire growth index-VIII (FGI-VIII) varied between 2.88 and 20.63. The FRI-IX, which is the fire risk rating, showed dawn redwood has a very high fire risk, with FRI-IX values of 71.14 (fire risk rating: G). Therefore, wood with a large amount of volatile organic compounds and a low bulk density showed a high value of FRI-IX by lowering FPI-VII and FPI-VIII and increasing FGI-VII and FGI-VIII.

Monitoring Pesticide Residues in Nuts and Seeds in Gyeonggi-do (경기도 내 유통 견과종실류의 잔류농약 실태 모니터링)

  • This study was aimed to investigate pesticides residue levels in nuts and seeds distributed in Gyeonggi-do. We investigated nuts and seeds in 131 products, which is pumpkin seeds (n=17), sunflower (n=12), sesame (n=23), perilla (n=11), peanut (n=18), almond (n=8), chestnut (n=6), walnut (n=14), pine nut (n=3), pecan (n=4), macadamia (n=3), brazil nut (n=5), cashew nut (n=4) and ginkgo nut (n=3). As a result of evaluating 339 pesticide residues, eight out of 131 samples were detected at the range of 0.01-0.07 mg/kg. Additionally, 7 out of 8 detected samples exceeded MRLs (Maximum Residue Limits) and 85% of them were imported. Pyraclostrobin applied on the positive list system (PLS) was detected in five Chinese pumpkin seeds samples, and the range was 0.02-0.04 mg/kg. In Indian and Korean sesame seeds, pendimethalin, boscalid, and bifenthrin were detected at 0.04, 0.05, and 0.06 mg/kg, respectively. The ratio of estimated daily intake (EDI) to acceptable daily intake (ADI) was 0.002-0.372%, indicating that the risk level was safe.
