Paraglider has been used for a good air sports instrument by many people in the world though its short history. And manufacturers have improved it continuously. It has the great growth from the first model like parachute to the latest model that has the extreme speed, but we can improve it in more parts. In this paper, we will show the method which can improve its performance by using Axiomatic Approach.
In this paper, we present two successful results from active controls of flows over a circular cylinder and a sphere for drag reduction. The Reynolds number range considered for the flow over a circular cylinder is 40-3900 based on the free-stream velocity and cylinder diameter, whereas for the flow over a sphere it is $10^{5}$ based on the free-stream velocity and sphere diameter. The successful active control methods are a distributed (spatially periodic) forcing and a high-frequency (time periodic) forcing. With these control methods, the mean drag and lift fluctuations decrease and vortical structures are significantly modified. For example, the time-periodic forcing at a high frequency (larger than 20 times the vortex shedding frequency) produces $50{\%}$ drag reduction for the flow over a sphere at $Re=10^{5}$. The distributed forcing applied to the flow over a circular cylinder results in a significant drag reduction at all the Reynolds numbers investigated.
In this study, a computational method for wall shear stress combined with an implicit direct-forcing immersed boundary method is presented. Near the immersed boundaries, the sub-grid stress is determined by a wall model in which the wall shear stress is directly calculated from the Lagrangian force on the immersed boundary. A coupling mathematical model of the transition process for a model Francis turbine comprising turbulent flow and rotating rigid guide vanes is established. The spatiotemporal distributions of pressure, velocity, vorticity and turbulent quantity are gained with the transient process; the drag and lift coefficients as well as other forces (moments) are also obtained as functions of the attack angle. At the same time, analysis is conducted of the characteristics of pressure pulsation, velocity stripes and vortex structure at some key parts of flowing passage. The coupling relations among the turbulent flow, the dynamical force (moment) response of blade and the rotating of guide vane are also obtained.
This paper presents a new prediction method of radiated noise from grille of the airconditioning appliance. Laminar vortex sheddings behind a circular cylinder are simulated by solving two dimensional unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equation. The Finite Elements Method(FEM) and unstructured grid generation technique are applied to solve, the unsteady lift/drag coefficients are obtained to compute far-field noise using Lighthill's acoustic analogy. Grille is divided into some cylinder segments, and radiated noise from grille is obtained by summing noise generated from each segment. The effects of changing cross section of cylinder and grille geometry are studied. And sound pressure levels radiated from typical H-type grille are measured in KAIST anechoic wind tunnel at various inflow conditions and compared with numerical predictions.
Aerodynamic characteristics of three-dimensional wings in ground effect for Aero-levitation Electric Vehicle(AEV) are numerically investigated for various fairing shapes at the junctions of 3D Wings. Numerical results show that a sizeable three-dimensional comer flow separation occurs with formation of an arch vortex at the junction of main and vertical wings, and also that this is predicted the main cause of the high lift-to-drag(L/D) reduction rate of the main wing. To avoid the comer flow separation, the main idea of this study is to reduce the cross section gradient of the comer flow tube near the trailing edge for various fairing shapes. Improvements on L/D ratios of the wings are pursued by breaking the coherence of superimposed adverse pressure gradients at the wing junction when the cross section gradient is changed slowly at the trailing edge.
Oscillating airfoil haw been challenged for the dynamic stalls of airfoil am wind turbines at high angle of attach. Especially, the pressure oscillation has a huge effect on noise generation, structure damage, aerodynamic performance am safety, because the flow has strong unsteadiness at high angle of attack. In this paper, the unsteady aerodynamics coefficients were analyzed for the oscillating airfoil at high angle of attack around two dimensional NACA0012 airfoil. The two dimensional unsteady compressible Navier-Stokes equation with a LES turbulent model was calculated by OHOC (Optimized High-Order Compact) scheme. The flow conditions are Mach number of 0.2 and Reynolds number of $1.2{\times}10^4$. The lift, drag, pressure distribution, etc. are analyzed according to the pitching oscillation. Unsteady velocity field, periodic vortex shedding, the unsteady pressure distribution, and the acoustic fields are analyzed. The effects of these unsteady characteristics in the aerodynamic coefficients are analyzed.

The present study is aimed to achieve dynamic visualization from the in-house 3-D stereoscopic PIV to represent quantitative flow information such as time-resolved 3-D velocity distribution, vorticity, turbulent intensity or Reynolds stresses and so on. One of the application of the present study is Leading edge extension(LEX) flow appearing on modern delta wing aircraft. The other is mixing flow in stirring tank used in industry field. LEX in a highly swept shape applied to a delta wing features the modern air-fighters. The LEX vortices generated upon the upper surface of the wing at high angle of attack enhance the lift force of the delta wing by way of increased negative suction pressure over the surfaces. The present method resolves also the complicated flow patterns of two type impellers rotating in stirring vessel. Flow quantities such as three velocity vector components, vorticity and other flow information can be easily visualized via the 3D time-resolved post-processing visualization. And it makes the easy understanding of the unsteady flow characteristics of the typical industrial mixers.
The geometry of a commercial passenger airplane is realized based on a Boeing 747-400 model through the photographic scanning and reverse engineering. The each element consisting of the plane such as fuselage, wing, vertical fin, stabilizer and engines, is individually generated and then the whole body is assembled by the photomodeler. The maximum error in the realized airplane is about 1.4% comparing with the real one. The three-dimensional inviscid steady compressible governing equations are solved in the unstructured tetrahedron grid system, and in a finite volume method using STAR-CD when the airplane flies at the cruise condition. The pressure distribution on the surface and the wing-tip vortices are visualized, and in addition to the aerodynamics coefficients, lift and drag are estimated.
This paper reports the numerical calculations of uniform turbulent shear flow around a square cylinder. The predictions are obtained by solving the two-dimensional unsteady Navier-Stokes equations in a finite volume technique. The turbulent fluctuations are simulated by the standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model and one of its variant which takes care of the realizability constraint in order to suppress the excessive generation of turbulence in a stagnation condition. It has been found that the Strouhal number and the mean drag coefficient are almost unaffected by the shear parameter but the mean lift coefficient is increased. The present predictions are compared with available experimental data.
In this research, a numerical simulation for the acoustic sounds around a two-dimensional circular cylinder in a uniform flaw was developed, using the finite difference lattice Boltzmann model. We examine the boundary condition, which is determined by the distribution function concerning density, velocity, and internal energy at the boundary node. Pressure variation, due to the emission of the acoustic waves, is very small, but we can detect this periodic variation in the region far from the cylinder. Daple-like emission of acoustic waves is seen, and these waves travel with the speed of sound, and are synchronized with the frequency of the lift on the cylinder, due to the Karman vortex street. It is also apparent that the size of the sound pressure is proportional to the central distance to the circular cylinder. The lattice BGK model for compressible fluids is shown to be a powerful tool for the simulation of gas flaws.
