여과지에서 여재 원형도 결정 방법에 대한 연구 (Integrated Method to Determine the Sphericity of Filter Media)

  • The method to decide media sphericity on the filter has been investigated. The sphericity, the ratio of the surface area of an equal volume sphere to the real surface area of the particles, is one of major physical characters of media affecting the bed expansion during backwash. The media in each treatment plant may have different sphericity, and the sphericity of the media in the filter may be changed as backwashing has been conducted regularly for a long time. Media from twelve water treatment plants under KOWACO have been collected and selected to insure various and practical sphericities. The sphericity of each media has been calculated by using well known equations. For example, Kozeny equation, Dahmarajah equation and so on. The experiment results have indicated that the sphericity of each water treatment plant is different. Although the sphericity values measured by different methods were turned out to be diverse values, the order in the magnitude seemed to be the same. The sphericity values of sand media were in the range of 0.71-0.82 and those of anthracite were placed between 0.49 and 0.56 by the Dharmarajah equation.

Effect of Root Media Formulation and Fertilizer Application on Potato Plug Seedling Growth and Field Performance

  • Eight vermiculite-based root media prepared with addition of complete fertilizer (2 g/L; N-$P_2$$O_5$-$K_2$O, 10-10-14) for potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) and a commercial root medium were evaluated in 2000 to develop the root media suitable for potato plug seedling production. The eight media consisted of various ratios of vermiculite, perlite, peatmoss, and compost. In addition, four rates (0, 1, 2, or 4 g/L) of the complex fertilizer for potato were added to a root medium (70% vermiculite, 10% perlite, 10% peat moss, and 10% compost by volume) to determine the optimum addition rate of the complex fertilizer for plug seedlings. Compost addition to the media increased plant height, the number of leaves per plant, and top and root fresh weight of 15-day old plug seedlings. The seedlings raised in root media containing compost produced significantly higher total tuber yield. Addition of the complex fertilizer to root media enhanced seedling growth and increased the number of tubers per plant and tuber yields. The results suggest that root media containing 50% vermiculite, 0 to 20% peat moss, 10% perlite, 20 to 40% compost, and 2 g/L complex fertilizer for potato appear suitable for potato plug seedling production.

  • 침지여상에 폐수를 부하하여 간접포기 강제순환 방식으로 처리하는 system에 대하여 그 유기물 제거 특성을 실험적으로 연구했다. 실험은 침지여상에 네트링(random형(型) plastic media), 입체철망(module형(型) plastic media) 및 잔자갈의 특성이 다른 세가지 media를 충전하고, pH, 수온(水溫)을 고정한 상태에서 $BOD_5$ 용적부하와 순화비를 변동하여 실시하므로서 여재(media) 종류가 $BOD_5$ 제거효율에 미치는 특성을 규명했다.

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the variations of headloss rate and of specific deposit to depths with effective size of media and configuration of filter layer during algae blooming period. 0.51mm size media was disqualified because most of headloss occurred rapidly below 5cm from surface layer however 0.91mm size media acted deep filtration more than 20cm from top, as result 0.91mm sixte media filter had 2∼3 times longer filtration time than 0.51mm sixte media filter, but 0.91mm size media have break-through potentiality. multi-layer filter with 1.02mm anthracite and 0.51mm sand had large deposit volume in upper layer that could longer filtration time, moreover smaller media in lower layer that could protect break-through.

Nanoscale quantitative mechanical mapping of poly dimethylsiloxane in a time dependent fashion

  • Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is one of the most widely adopted silicon-based organic polymeric elastomers. Elastomeric nanostructures are normally required to accomplish an explicit mechanical role and correspondingly their mechanical properties are crucial to affect device and material performance. Despite its wide application, the mechanical properties of PDMS are yet fully understood. In particular, the time dependent mechanical response of PDMS has not been fully elucidated. Here, utilizing state-of-the-art PeakForce Quantitative Nanomechanical Mapping (PFQNM) together with Force Volume (FV) and Fast Force Volume (FFV), the elastic moduli of PDMS samples were assessed in a time-dependent fashion. Specifically, the acquisition frequency was discretely changed four orders of magnitude from 0.1 Hz up to 2 kHz. Careful calibrations were done. Force data were fitted with a linearized DMT contact mechanics model considering surface adhesion force. Increased Young's modulus was discovered with increasing acquisition frequency. It was measured 878 ± 274 kPa at 0.1 Hz and increased to 4586 ± 758 kPa at 2 kHz. The robust local probing of mechanical measurement as well as unprecedented high-resolution topography imaging open new avenues for quantitative nanomechanical mapping of soft polymers, and can be extended to soft biological systems.

지하저수지(ASR) 유입수 전처리기법 개발: 물리적 폐색 저하 및 수량공급원활을 위한 2 단계 급속여과지 (Development of pre-treatment for the injection water into the aquifer storage and recovery(ASR) in Korea: The two-step rapid filter to reduce physical clogging and secure the volume of the injected water)

  • Two step rapid filter system as a pre-treatment for the injected water into aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) in Korea was developed to reduce physical blockage and secure the volume of the injected water. First, single rapid sand filters with three different media sizes (0.4~0.7, 0.7~1.0 and 1.0~1.4 mm) were tested. Only two sizes (0.4~0.7 and 0.7~1.0 mm) satisfied target turbidity, below 1.0 NTU. However, they showed the fast head loss. To prevent the fast head loss and secure the volume of the injected water, a rapid anthracite filter with roughing media size (2.0~3.4 mm) were installed before a single rapid sand filter. As results, both the target turbidity and reduction of head loss were achieved. It was determined that the media size for a rapid sand filter in two step rapid filter system (i.e. a rapid anthracite filter before a rapid sand filter) was 0.7~1.0 mm. In addition, the effects of coagulant doses on the removal of natural organic matter (NOM), which might cause a biological clogging, were preliminarily evaluated, and the values of $UV_{254}$, dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and SUVA were interpreted.

  • We investigate the estimation of the moisture transfer coefficients in porous media by optimization technique which minimizes the functional defined by the squares error of the numerical solution of an inverse diffusion problem from their experimental values of the moisture content at the some time-steps. In this paper, we solve a diffusion equation numerically by the control volume finite element methods.

Modeling of sulfate ionic diffusion in porous cement based composites: effect of capillary size change

  • The paper considers a theoretical model to study sulfate ion diffusion in saturated porous media - cement based mineral composites, accounting for simultaneous effects, such as filling micro-capillaries (pores) with ions and chemical products and liquid push out of them. Pore volume change and its effect on the distribution of ion concentration within the specimen are investigated. Relations for the distribution of the capillary relative radius and volume within the composite under consideration are found. The numerical algorithm used is further completed to consider capillary size change and the effects accompanying sulfate ion diffusion. Ion distribution within the cross section and volume of specimens fabricated from mineral composites is numerically studied, accounting for the change of material capillary size and volume. Characteristic cases of 2D and 3D diffusion are analyzed. The results found can be used to both assess the sulfate corrosion in saturated systems and predict changes occurring in the pore structure of the composite as a result of sulfate ion diffusion.

유한체적법을 이용한 밀폐공간내의 자연대류-복사열전달 해석 (Analysis of natural convection-radiation heat transfer using the finite volume method in enclosure)

  • Natural convection and radiation heat transfer in a square enclosure containing absorbing, emitting, and isotopically scattering(participating) media is studied numerically using the finite volume method. Various numerical methods are employed to analyze the radiative heat transfer. However, it is very difficult to choose the proper method. In present study, a finite volume method(FVM) and a discrete ordinates method(DOM) are compared in rectangular enclosure. The SIMPLER algorithm is used to solve the momentum and energy equations. Thermal and flow characteristics are investigated according to the variation of radiation parameters such as optical thickness and scattering albedo. The result shows that the accuracy and the computing time of FVM are better than those of DOM in regular geometry.

  • Recently mobile devices can transmit mass data contained multi-media contents. According these flow, a demand for fast data transmission is being risen, so we acutely require remarkable technology that overcome mobile communication's poor environment and rise data transmission volume. Because it can be satisfied these needs, the OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) that rise data transmission volume using efficient frequency, and MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) that rise transmission confidence and data transmission volume using numbers of antenna is attended. Before design of MIMO-OFDM System we want to make an analysis for theory of its systems, and we want to design MIMO-OFDM simulator for verify an ability of modulation, data volume and numbers of antenna.
