The purpose of this study is to evaluate the differences of visual image by variations in the volume of flare and the length of flare skirt. The stimuli are 12 samples: 4 variations of volume of flare and 3 variations of the length of skirt. The data has been obtained from 181 fashion design majors. The data has been analyzed by Factor Analysis, ANOVA, Scheffe's Test and the MCA method. The results of the study are as follows: The visual image by the volume of flare and the length of flare skirt are composed of 4 factors : matureness, attractiveness, stiffness and softness, moderateness. In these factors, matureness is estimated by the most important factor. When the volume of flare is $180^{\circ}$, the visual images are shown to be better. As the skirt gets shorter, it has more vivid and attractive image. And as the skirt gets longer, it looks older and gentle but not too plain or ordinary. The volume of flare and skirt length interact with each other in matureness and attractiveness factors. But the volume of flare affects more in stiffness and softness and moderateness factors than skirt length.
This study analyzed hierarchy of image for visual evaluation of flare skirt. This study analyzed expression words about flare skirt with frequency data of image expression words with different length and volume of flare. Stimuli for the study were set to be 4 different volume of flare ($90^{\circ}$, $180^{\circ}$, $270^{\circ}$, $360^{\circ}$) and 3 different length of skirt(48cm, 58cm, 68cm). Stimuli were made by using I-Designer which is Virtual Sewing System. From simulation of flare skirt, the subjects were asked to write down suggested adjective freely and selected 210 adjectives. With this, we chose total 38 adjectives considering frequencies in the pre-study. And we analyzed the combination process of expression words according to construction factor of flare skirt and hierarchy of image from dendrogram which was resulted by hierarchical cluster analysis. 'Feminine' got high score in all 12 flare skirt. When the skirt was short, it was vivid, and as the skirt got longer, ordinary and pure image showed. Also, as the volume of flare got larger, the average of visual effect was higher than visual image. Visual hierarchy construction according to construction factors of flare skirt could be divided into visual image and visual effect, and visual image was shown to be form 'A type - large volume of flare and short skirt length', 'H type-small volume of flare and short skirt length' and 'X type - large volume of flare and long skirt length'.

A literature review and survey were conducted regarding the silhouette changes in bell bottom pants and the overall visual evaluation in accordance with the changes. The survey was disseminated from December 2015 to January 2016 to 245 women in their 20s living in Busan. The variables used for the silhouette changes in bell bottom pants were the volume of flare and the flare's starting point, and 20 pairs of terms were selected for visual evaluation. The results of the study are as follows: 1. Visual evaluations according to the volume of flare in bell bottoms indicated that females in their 20s appraised pants with a flare volume of 54 cm close to a straight silhouette and flare volume of 62 cm (recognized clearly as characteristic of bell bottom pants) to be more attractive and sophisticated than pants with flare volumes of 70 cm and 78 cm. 2.Visual evaluations according to the starting point of the flare in bell bottom pants showed that women appraised their legs as looking thinner when the flare started near the thighs. In a vertical visual evaluation, women appraised that their legs looked longer when the flare started near the knees and pants fit tightly around them. 3.The analysis of silhouette factors affecting the visual evaluation of bell bottom pants indicated that the volume of flare has more effect visually than the starting point of the flare.
The purpose of this study is to develop semantic differential scales which are necessary to evaluate visual image and effect of flare skirt. As a result of the first survey of 362 female college students, the most effective factors for shape of flare skirt are silhouette, volume of flare, and skirt length. Based on this result, we made flare skirt simulation for visual evaluation with using I-Designer program. 4 kinds of volume of flare($90^{\circ},\;180^{\circ},\;270^{\circ},\;360^{\circ}$) and 3 kinds of skirt length(48cm, 58cm, 68cm) are combined as variables for flare skirt of visual evaluation. For the second survey of 362 female college students, we asked to write suggested adjectives freely. As a result, we could draw out 210 adjectives. 'Feminine' was most frequently used word for flare skirt, and then, 'vivid', 'rhythmic', 'cute', 'soft', 'fat', and 'comfortable' in this order. With considering frequently used words in the preceding study, we selected 41 adjectives. Antonyms were selected from the resulted frequency of this study and preceding study, and the rest of words were found from dictionary. From these process, we developed semantic differential scales for visual image and effect of flare skirt.
This study compared the flared skirts on 3D simulation and in real to show diverse forms in women's clothing depending on the body's gait and motion. By finding the problems, we suggested the possible methods for utilizing the 3D simulation in the clothing industry. First, the 3D simulation of flared skirts showed similar forms of appearance according to the flare length and volume. However, virtually formed drape shape was even in size and spacing, whereas it was not even in real. Second, according to the results of appearance test on the length and flare volume at $90^{\circ}$ and $180^{\circ}$, both real and 3D simulation skirts were evaluated to have outstanding appearances regardless of the skirt length. However, as the flares volume increased, the skirts with longer length were evaluated to have superior appearances compared to the skirts of shorter length. Third, it showed higher resemblance between the real and virtual simulation, when the skirt had less flare and as the skirt length shortened. However, it showed greater difference between the real and virtual simulation when flare volume and length increased. The length and volume of the skirt and the physical properties of the material are predicted to be different between the real and virtual simulation. However, they usually are similar in forms, so it is believed possible to use for predicting the design's silhouette or the feel when it is worn. This method can be applied on internet shopping malls, which can possibly reduce unnecessary time and expenses.
The wave impact on ships could cause local damage to the ship's hull, which has been a concerning issue during the ship design process. In recent years, local structural damages of ships caused by slamming loads have been reported by accident; therefore, it is necessary to study the local slamming pressure loads and structural response assessment. In the present study, slamming loads around the ship's bow region in the presence of regular wave have been simulated by RANS equations discretized with a cell-centered finite volume method (FVM) in conjunction with the $k-{\Box}$ turbulence model. The dynamic structural response has been calculated using an explicit FE method. By adding the slamming pressure load of each time step to the finite element model, establishing the reasonable boundary conditions, and considering the material strain-rate effects, the dynamic response prediction of the bow flare structure has been achieved. The results and insights of this study will be helpful to design a container ship that is resistant enough to withstand bow flare slamming loads.
A ship repeatedly face free surface under rough sea conditions owing to relative motion with wave encounter. The impact pressure is transferred to the hull structure and causes structural damage. In this study, the bow flare slamming load of a container ship is estimated using computations fluid dynamics (CFD) and prescript formula according to various classifications. It is found that the bow flare slamming load calculated by the formulas of the common structural rule and ABS tends to be similar to the CFD results.
No matter how intense magnetic flux it contains, a coronal magnetic structure has little free magnetic energy when a composing magnetic field is close to a potential field, or current-free field where no volume electric current flows. What kind of electric current system is developed is therefore a key to evaluating the activity of a coronal magnetic structure. Since the corona is a highly conductive medium, a coronal electric current tends to survive without being dissipated, so the free magnetic energy provided by a coronal electric current is normally hard to release in the corona. This work aims at clarifying how a coronal electric current system is structurally developed into a system responsible for producing a flare. Toward this end, we perform diffusive MHD simulations for the emergence of a magnetic flux tube with different twist applied to it, and go through the process of structuring a coronal electric current in a twisted flux tube emerging to form a coronal magnetic structure. Interestingly, when a strongly twisted flux tube emerges, there spontaneously forms a structure inside the flux tube, where a coronal electric current changes flow pattern from field-aligned dominant to cross-field dominant. We demonstrate that this structure plays a key role in releasing free magnetic energy via rapid dissipation of a coronal electric current, thereby producing a flare.
This research was conducted to provide basic data to improve expressivity required for virtual clothing to replace actual clothing. For the experiment, 6 materials were selected and 12(2 kinds of length) actual flared skirts were made. At the same time, simulations were carried out on OptiTex Runway 12.0 for 36(12 kinds of skirts $\times$ KES, FTU, KES weight/10) kinds of virtual flared skirts, which were applied with the measured property values (thickness, weight, bending, shear, friction, and stretch). Also, the study compared and analyzed the wearing images, silhouette overlapping images, and skirt length measurements of the actual and virtual skirts put on a dummy. As a result, the actual skirts showed clear distinction for each material. In contrast, virtual 1 and 2 expressed fabric 3 in the most similar way, but could not recreate the uniform, soft, and natural flare shape of the actual skirts in general. Virtual 3 formed natural flares as those of the actual skirts, and expressed fabric 1, 5, and 6 in a similar way. However, virtual 3 had too much volume and barely showed any distinction for each material. All of virtual 1, 2, and 3 expressed different flare shapes on the front and back sides of the skirt similarly to the actual skirts, and had a good visual expression for the color and texture of the materials. However, they could not effectively express the elasticity and fabric sagging in the bias direction.
The purpose of this study is to examine actual design cases of decorative detail in the Art Nouveau style from the end of 19th century to the beginning of 20th century, and create designs and fashion works to meet our contemporary fashion trends by means of over-decorative style, a characteristic of decorative detail. The characteristics of decorative detail in the Art Nouveau style can be outlined as follows: First, pleats appear with two major feels of solidity, undulated and curvilinear solidity based on gather(ruffle, frill/ flare and flounce) and regular and linear solidity based on linear pleats or tucks. Second, embroidery appears in various patterns developed with stitch of solid feel as well as a variety of coloration effects. Third, attachments are expressed by means of independent motif(applique, gloss effects(beads, sequins), affluent texture and mobility(fur, feather). Moreover, according to technical characteristics and expressive aspects of pleats, embroidery and attachments, it is found that decoration detail in the era of Art Nouveau is over-decoration style. Indeed, it appears in major expressive aspects such as rhythmical solid type, detailed prominence type, superficial touch type and profound volume type.
