The volume of an acoustic source is important in determining various acoustic parameters. One of the suggested techniques is the internal pressure method incorporating a loudspeaker attached to a chamber wall and a microphone inserted into the cavity. Although the method is easy to handle with a very simple measurement setup, the coupling effects between the dynamic system of the loudspeaker and acoustic field, and the effects of higher order modes introduced by the discontinuities in the acoustic field, and the effects of higher order modes introduced by the discontinuities in the acoustic field should be considered for precise result. In this study, higher order modes due to the discontinuities of loudspeaker and microphone boundaries are included and the electro-acoustic coupling effects are compensated for by using the results of two cylinders with different lengths. The volume velocity of a loudspeaker thus obtained agrees very with that measured by laser sensor.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of thyroid hormone on the left ventricular(LV) volume arid function in man with untreated hyperthyroidism and to determine the effects of successful therapy for thyrotoxicosis on the ventricular pathophysiology. In the present study, equilibrium radionuclide cardiac angiography was performed and LV volume index, ejection phase indexes of LV performance, serum thyroid hormone levels and other hemodynamic parameters were measured in 28 normal subjects and 39 patients with hyperthyroidism before treatment and again every 4 weeks for the first 2 months after the initiation of effective therapy. The results obtained were as follows; 1) In the untreated hyperthyroid state heart rate, blood volume, cardiac index and stroke volume index($97{\pm}14$ beats/min, $73.5{\pm}11.8ml/kg,\;6.9{\pm}1.4\;l/min/m^2$ and $77.6{\pm}13.8ml/m^2$, respectively) were increased significantly compared to those in normal control($74{\pm}12beats/min$, $66.6{\pm}14.8ml/kg,\;3.8{\pm}1.2\;l/min/m^2$ and $56.6{\pm}13.2ml/m^2$ respectively). $(Mean{\pm}SD)$ 2) There was a significant increase in LV end-diastolic volume index in patients with hyperthyroidism ($30.5{\pm}7.5$ for hyperthyroid group compared to a normal control of $22.2{\pm}6.5$; p<0.001), whereas end-systolic volume index remained unchanged $9.6{\pm}3.6\;and\;8.8{\pm}3.3$ respectively).3) In patients with hyperthyroidism, LV ejection fraction was $70.0{\pm}5.6%$, fractional shortening $32.9{\pm}5.1%$, mean velocity of circumferential fiber shortening(mean Vcf) $1.34{\pm}0.31$ circ/sec and maximum ejection rate $3.47{\pm}0.80$. All the ejection phase indexes were significantly greater than those in normal control($65.2{\pm}5.7%,\;28.8{\pm}3.2%,\;0.88{\pm}0.37$ circ/see and $2.27{\pm}0.50$, respectively; p<0.001). 4) Effective therapy produced significant decrease in all the values of serum thyroid hormone concentrations(p<0.00l), hemodynamic parameters(p<0.001), end-diastolic volume index(p<0.01) and ejection phase indexes of LV contractility in patients with hyperthyroidism and after one to two months, when the patients were euthyroid, these measurements were in the range of normal. 5) A significant linear correlation between mean Vcf and serum thyroxine level(r=0.63, p<0.001) as well as between mean Vcf and serum triiodothyronine level(r=0.62, p<0.001) was found. The lesser degree of correlation was also noted between other ejection phase indexes and serum thyroid hormone concentrations. The results indicate that the major effects of excess thyroid hormone on the LV in human beings with hyperthyroidism are an enhancement of LV function and an increase in LV enddiastolic volume and that these effects cause predictable reversible cardiac alteration which are changed dramatically and immediately after effective therapy.
This studies were carried out to investigate the effects of leaf loading quantity and circulating air volume during bulk curing on the variation of physical and chemical characteristics in flue-cured tobacco. The results are as follows : 1. The content of sugar in cured leaves was decreased with more circulating air volume and leaf loading quantity at bulk curing. 2. Total nitrogen and protein nitrogen were decreased with less circulating air volume and more leaf loading quantity, while amino nitrogen was increased. 3. The contents of linolenic acid and linoleic acid were increased with more leaf loading quantity and oxalic acid and citric acid had a tendency of being increased in case of high circulating air volume. 4. In general, major aromatic compounds were increased through flue-curing. Relatively high content of solanone in case of lower air volume and less leaf loading were observed, while megastig matrienone was increased when leaf loading was small. 5. The more circulation air volume with leaf loading quantity caused lowering equilibrium moisture content and higher shatter index, which resulted in poor quality of cured leaves based on quality index, nitrogen number, taste index phillips index, and sugar-nicotine ratio.
Background : The effect of PEEP(ed note: Define PEEP.) on the lung volume in patients with auto-PEEP during mechanical ventilation is not even. In patients with an expiratory limitation such as COPD, a PEEP of 85% from an auto-PEEP can be used with minimal increase in the lung volume. However, the application of PEEP to patients without an expiratory flow limitation can result in progressive lung. This study was carried out to evaluate the different PEEP effects on the lung volume according to the different pulmonary diseases. Methods : Sixteen patients who presented with auto-PEEP during mechanical ventilation were enrolled in this study. These patients were divided into 3 groups: asthma, COPD and tuberculosis sequela (patients with severe cicatrical fibrosis as a result of previous tuberculosis and compensatory emphysema). A PEEP of 25, 50, 75 and 100% of the auto-PEEP was applied, and the lung volume increments were estimated using the trapped lung volume. Results : In the asthma group, the trapped lung volume was not increased at a PEEP of 25 and 50% of the auto-PEEP. This group showed a significant lung volume increment from a 75% PEEP. In the COPD group, the lung volume was increased only at 100% PEEP. In the tuberculosis sequela group, the lung volume was increased progressively from low PEEP levels. However, a significant increment of the lung volume was noted only at 100% PEEP. Conclusion : The effects of the applied PEEP on the lung volume were different depending on the underlying lung pathology. The level of the applied PEEP >50% of the auto-PEEP might increase the trapped lung volume in patients with asthma.

The effects of microstructure on the damping capacity and tensile properties of 316L stainless steel were investigated. Increasing the degree of cold working, the volume fraction of $\varepsilon-martensite$ decreased after rising to maximum value at specific level of cold working, the volume fraction of d-martensite slowly increased and then dramatically increased from the point of decreasing $\varepsilon-martensite$ volume fraction. Increasing the degree of cold working, the behnvior of damping capacity is similar to that of the $\varepsilon-martensite$. After the damping capacity showing the maximum value at about $20\%$ of cold rolling, damping capacity was decreased with the volume fraction of $\varepsilon-martensite$. Tensile strength was proportional to the volume fraction of d-martensite, and elongation steeply decreased in the range low volume fraction of a'-martensite, then slowly decreased in range the above $10\%$ volume fraction of d-martensite. The damping capacity and elongation is strongly controlled by the volume fraction of $\varepsilon$ martensite with liner relationship. However, the effect of the volume fraction of d-martensite and austenite phase on the damping capacity was not observed. Tensile strength was governed by the volume fraction of d-martensite.
The effects of prolactin and vasopressin on the regulation of amniotic fluid (AF) volume and its $Na^{+}$ concentration $([Na^{+}])$ through the membrane surrounding the AF during increase in AF volume due to fetal urination were studied. About 70% of AF volume was replaced with normal isotonic saline solution. Isotonic saline solution (0.5 ml) containing Censored and LiCl was introduced into each amniotic sac. Vasopressin (25 ng/ml) or prolactin (1 mg/ml) of AF was then injected into experimental amniotic sac. The concentrations of Congored, $Li^{+}$, and $Na^{+}$ were measured at 30 and 60 min intervals after injection. Af samples with decreased Censored concentration ([CR]) during the period of 30 - 60 min were analyzed. The percentage change of $[Na^{+}]$ and the rate of $Li^{+}$ movement during this period were calculated, and the effects of vasopressin and prolactin on them were evaluated. Fellowing results were obtained: 1. The rate of reduction of [CR] in the AF was retarded by vasopressin or prolactin injection. 2. The rate of reduction of $[Li^{+}]$ in the AF was also retarded by vasopressin or prolactin injection. 3. The rate of reduction of $[Li^{+}]$ in the AF was less retarded by vasopressin than that of [CR]. 4. $[Na^{+}]$ changed to approach to the normal level, but this was markedly retarded by prolactin injection. 5. Direction of $Li^{+}$ movement was correlated with the change in $[Na^{+}]$ but it always moved out of the amniotic sac even when the $[Na^{+}]$ increased in vasopressin injected AF. From the above results, it is suggested that vasopressin in the AF triggers the fetus to urinate, and then the membranes surrounding the AF regulate osmolarity by efflux of $Na^{+}$. We suggest that prolactin facilitates water outflow across the amniotic membrane during increase in AF volume, in contrast to a constant volume, whereas regulation of $[Na^{+}]$ is partly restricted by prolactin.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate the inhibitory effect of non-thermal dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma by air volume against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB). Methods: Plasma generators (TB-300, Shinyoung Airtec, Seongnam-si, Korea) were operated in a 2A type biosafety cabinet. The plasma generator was set to a wind flow rate of 14 ($80m^3/h$), 18 ($110m^3/h$), and 22 ($150m^3/h$), and exposure times were set to 0 hours, 3 hours, 6 hours, 9 hours, and 24 hours. Results: The inhibitory effects of plasma at air volume 14 with prolonged exposure time of three hours was 20%, 64% at six hours, 82.3% at nine hours, and 100% after 24 hours exposure. With air volume of 18, the inhibitory effects upon plasma exposure were 36% for three hours, and 100% from 24 hours. Greater air volume resulted in greater inhibition of tuberculosis bacterial growth. In particular, the maximum inhibitory effect (100%) was shown in air volume of 22 ($150m^3/h$) after three hours of plasma exposure. Conclusions: The results showed the correlating inhibitory effects of plasma on the growth of MTB in combination with increasing plasma exposure time and air volume.
Cross-talk effects in high-density volume holographic interconnections are investigated using perturbative iteration method of the integral form of Maxwell's wave equation. In this method, the paraxial approximation and negligence of backward scattering introduced in conventional coupled mode theory is not assumed. Interaction geometries consisting of non-coplanar light waves and multiple index gratings are studied. Arbitrary light polarization is considered. Systematic analysis of cross-talk effects due to multiple index gratings is performed in increasing level of diffraction orders corresponding to successive iterations. Some numerical examples are given for first and third order diffraction.

A multidimensional numerical simulation of turbulent combustion in a constant volume bomb is implemented to clarify the effects of swirl on combustion. This simulation includes the ICED-ALE numerical technique, the skew-upwind differencing scheme, the modified .Kappa.-.epsilon. turbulence model, and the combustion model of the Arrhenius type and the turbulence-mixing-control type. The calculations of the turbulent combustion with swirl are carried out. It shows that the results agree with the measurements allowably. Therefore, the effects of swirl on turbulent combustion are examined through the parametric study of swirl.
This study investigated the effects of influencing factors on the sales volume of apparel products. Based on previous studies, weekend effect, discount rate, and meteorological factors including daily average temperature, rainfall, sea level pressure, and fine dust were selected as independent variables to calculate their effects on sales quantity of apparel products. The daily sales data during 2015 - 2016 were collected from casual brands and outdoor brands which "A" apparel manufacturing company had operated. The actual data of "A" company were analyzed using SAS(R) 9.4 and SAS(R) Enterprise Miner 14.1. The results of this study were as follows: First, the influencing factors on total sales volume of apparel products were proved to be the weekend effect, discount rate, and fine dust. Second, the analysis of influencing factors on sales volume of apparel products according to season showed: 1) In casual brands, the average temperature had a significant influence on the sales volume of spring/summer products, and the sea level pressure affected the sales volume of summer/fall/winter products significantly. 2) In outdoor brands, the average temperature and the fine dust had a significant influence on the sales volume of all season's products. The sea level pressure affected the sales volume of summer/fall/ winter products significantly. The weekend effect and the discount effect affected the sales volume of apparel products partly. Third, the effect of rainfall was not proven significant, which was different from the results of past studies.
