KSL 학습자의 학업 문식성 신장을 위한 교과 언어 교육 내용 연구 -역사 교과 텍스트를 중심으로- (A Study on the Language of Content Area for Improving Academic Literacy of KSL Learners: Focusing on History Texts)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the linguistic elements that can promote academic literacy in terms of content-based instructions for KSL learners. In order to study the characteristics of learning languages for subjects, focus was given to the framework of systematic functional linguistics that has been extensively used in ELL teaching and learning research in the United States and Australia. History, which is taught in all classes and classified as a required course, was the subject of analysis. From the history curriculum, the elementary school level texts "Social Studies 5-2" and "Social Studies 6-1" were chosen for the analysis. Based on the results, we can come to the following conclusions. First, history textbooks are divided into narrative and analytical explanatory sub-genres based on their content, and there are differences in the factors that need to be focused on to find the main information. Second, the vocabulary of history textbooks should focus on the use of verbs which comprehend material processes. Particularly, learners should pay attention to the differences in meaning between low-frequency expressions. We hope that the results of this study will have a positive effect on history subject learning for learners in the "Adaptive Korean Course" and will help establish direction in terms of building curriculum contents for KSL learners.

The Effects of Corpus Use on Learning L2 Collocations of Light Verbs and Nouns

  • In data-driven learning (DDL), learners explore a corpus to understand vocabulary and grammar. Although many studies have emphasized the role of DDL in second language (L2) acquisition, L2 light verbs have been largely under-explored. To bridge this gap, this study focused on the learning outcomes of L2 light verbs among 29 intermediate-level Japanese university students. The research zeroed in on six prevalent light verbs in English: "make," "do," "take," "have," "give," and "get." Over nine weeks, the participants engaged with verb-noun collocations using worksheets that juxtaposed Japanese translations of the target collocations with their English equivalents, with the verbs omitted. With the aid of Wordbanks Online, they filled in the blanks and constructed accurate sentences. Before this activity, a 20-minute tutorial was given to the participants on how to interpret the concordance lines. The effectiveness of the DDL method was evaluated using pre-tests, immediate post-tests, and delayed post-tests. The results showed that DDL significantly improved the participants' knowledge of the target collocations of light verbs and nouns; the post-test and delayed post-test scores were significantly higher than the pre-test scores. The results showed that, overall, DDL contributed to memorizing the collocations of light verbs and nouns; however, DDL had different effects on the memorization of collocations across different light verbs. The extent of work on the worksheet is not the only factor in its retention, and observing concordance lines may promote learners' memorization of light-verb collocations.

증강현실 기반 어휘 지도에서 동사 목록에 대한 기초 연구 (A Basic Study of Verbs List for Vocabulary Learning Based on Augmented Reality)

  • 본 연구는 디지털 세계와 물리적 세계가 접목하는 증강현실을 언어치료에 적용하기 위한 기초 연구이다. 특히, 아동들에게 동사를 지도할 때 증강현실로 구현한 동사 목록이 해당 움직임을 정확하게 나타내고 있는지와 같은 동작 타당도, 그리고 해당 동사 목록이 어휘 지도 목표로 적절한 것인지에 대한 어휘 타당도를 살펴본 연구이다. 선행 연구들을 참고하여 45개의 동사를 어휘 지도 목록으로 선정하고 이 동사들에 대하여 1급 언어재활사 자격증을 소지한 언어치료학과 교수 3명으로 하여금 어휘 타당도를 평가하도록 하였다. 그 결과, 39개 동사에서 높은 어휘 타당도를 얻었다. 높은 어휘 타당도를 얻은 39개 동사에 대한 동작 타당도를 살펴보기 위하여 언어치료 전공 석사과정 대학원생들에게 각 동사를 증강현실로 구현하여 보여주고 생각나는 동사를 기록하게 하였다. 증강현실로 구현된 동작 애니메이션을 보고 난 후 50% 이상의 대학원생이 해당 동사로 기록한 동사는 32개였다. 이차적으로는 이 32개 동사만 증강현실로 구현하여 87명의 언어치료 전공 대학생들에게 보여주고 Likert 5점 척도로 각 동사와 구현된 동작의 일치도를 평가하게 하였다. 최종적으로 30개 동사가 증강현실로 구현하여 지도하기에 타당한 동사 목록으로 선정되었다. 이 연구 결과를 바탕으로 향후 공인 타당도 및 적용 타당화 연구를 지속하여 증강현실을 활용한 어휘 평가 및 지도가 언어치료 임상 현장에서 활용되기를 기대한다.

토픽 모델링을 활용한 한국 영어교육 학술지에 나타난 연구동향 분석 (Analysis of Research Trends in Korean English Education Journals Using Topic Modeling)

  • 본 연구는 2000년 이후 최근 20년간 우리나라 영어교육의 연구동향을 파악해보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 영어교육 관련 주요 학술지 12개를 선정하여 해당 기간 동안에 게재된 논문 7,329편의 서지정보를 수집하여 분석하였다. 분석 대상이 된 영어교육 학술지의 논문 게재 현황은 2000년대부터 2010년대 전반기까지 계속 증가하였다가 2010년대 후반기에 다소 감소하였다. 그리고 2010년대 후반기에 학술지별 논문 게재 수도 비슷해졌다. 이와 같은 결과는 양적인 측면에서 영어교육 학술지의 영향력이 전반적으로 감소하면서 평준화된 것이라고 볼 수 있다. 다음으로 논문의 영문 초록을 데이터로 잠재 디리클레 할당(LDA) 토픽 모델링을 적용한 결과 34개 토픽(주제)이 추출되었다. 영어교육 분야에서 많이 연구된 토픽은 교사, 단어, 문화/미디어, 문법 등이었다. 단어, 어휘, 평가 등의 주제는 독특한 키워드를 통해 나타났고, 학습자요인 관련하여 여러 토픽들이 나타나면서 영어교육 연구의 관심 주제가 되었다. 다음으로, 상승 및 하강 토픽을 분석한 결과 상승 토픽으로 질적 연구, 어휘, 학습자요인, 평가요소 등이 있었고, 하강 토픽으로 CALL, 언어, 교수, 문법 등이 있었다. 이런 연구 주제의 변화는 영어교육 분야의 연구 관심사가 정적인 연구 주제에서 데이터 중심적이고 동적인 연구 주제로 이동하고 있음을 보여주는 것이다.

대사증후군 교육 인쇄물의 이독성과 적합성 평가 (Evaluation of the Readability and Suitability of Printed Educational Materials on Metabolic Syndrome)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the readability and suitability of printed educational materials related to metabolic syndrome in South Korea. Methods: Data were collected on 15 educational materials on metabolic syndrome from public health centers in Seoul. The 9 Graded Korean Vocabulary Classification and Korean version of SAM (Suitability Assessment of Materials) were used for the readability evaluation and the suitability evaluation respectively. Results: Overall average of the readability was 3.0th grade level. The percentage of 1st to 4th grade words was 79.4%. The printed educational materials on metabolic syndrome were written according to recommended reading levels. In suitability assessment, 2 out of 15 materials(13.3%) were scored as superior, 12 materials(80.0%) were scored as adequate and only 1 (6.7%) was scored as inadequate. The total average score of suitability was adequate. However, there are limitations in "summary and review" and "context is given first" due to limited writing pages. Conclusion: Readability and suitability of educational materials for metabolic syndrome were evaluated as adequate level. However, future health educational materials should be evaluated for readability via different factors including length of sentences, numbers of sentences, and structure of sentences. In addition, for easier understanding and motivation of readers, materials should use summary & review, context and proper interaction.

증발과 응결에 대한 국민 학생들의 개념 조사 (Children's Conception on Evaporation and Condensation)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate and analyze the conception of elementary school students on evaporation and condensation, and then to verify the types of the conception. Forty-eight children from six elementary schools were sampled by stratified random sampling in Seoul and other provinces. They responded to the questionaire and the interview. This study was carried out according to the process of the basic study, the preliminary study, and the main study. The materials collected were classified and analyzed according to the types of children's ideas. The findings of this study were as follows. 1. The vocabulary used to describe the evaporation phenomena varied according to the situations, and the scientific term "evaporation" was more frequently used by the older groups. 2. Most children answered that the last location of water were air/sky/cloud. Air/cloud which represents the scientific conception of the location of water were mentioned by children of all ages. The higher the grade of the children were, the more scientific conception the children mentioned, however. 3. Most children referred to the heat as the factor of evaporation. Wind, on the other hand was mentioned by less than 10% of lower graders, and by about 30% of higher graders. 4. The result of asking children whether they thought it was possible to get the evaporated water back showed that about 70% of lower graders denied the possibility of the water being reversible. About 60% of higher graders. however, recognized that the water will be returned as rain or condensation. This increase may be associated with formal teaching of water cycle. 5. In the ideas of evaporation and condensation, some of the children have supernatural ideas and animism, which are most younger chilren's characteristics.

Using Multimedia to Improve Listening Comprehension in the EFL Classroom

  • The four skills of a language are basically required for a communication. They are very important for a learner to develop the balanced language acquisition. Today both listening and speaking skills are emphasized in the global era rather than reading and writing proficiencies. The reason is really why the learners' communicative competence is more needed than the accurate knowledge of a structure in the language. For this reason, the listening comprehension should be taught effectively using the following strategies. First, the sound difference of a language must be taught. Language is a complicated process to convey the comprehensive meaning combined with the internal and external factors of a language. In other words, the meaning for the sound of language should be transmitted by the unit of vocabulary and syntax. Second, a good listening comprehension requires the familiarity and much experience with a lot of English words to understand English sentences unconsciously. Third, as understanding the structure of language is effective for the listening comprehension, the better listening comprehension can be possible through the meaningful exercise. Fourth, the compound process of listening comprehension requires the comprehensive understanding of language, but not the separate understanding of language. Fifth, the appropriate application of the multimedia courseware helps improve the listening comprehension better than that of the existing audio, video, tape recorder and so on. Using multimedia courseware is useful as follows: A learner is able to take as much lesson as he/she wants. It does take little time to repeat about what he/she takes a lesson. It gives the lively picture with the native speakers' voices. It gives him/her(a learner) a feedback effect continuously through the interaction of computer. It controls his/her lesson in accordance with the level of a learner.

격언의 언어학적 특성과 프랑스어 학습 적용 방안 (Linguistic Characteristics of the Proverb and it's Effective Application to French Learning)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 격언을 중심으로 프랑스어 학습 자료의 다양성을 모색하고 학습 효과의 효율성을 높이기 위한 학습 방안을 제시하는데 있다. 이 논문은 두 부분으로 구성되어져 있다. 첫 번째 부분에서는 격언들이 프랑스어의 형태, 통사적 특성을 바탕으로 구성되어 있음을 살펴볼 것이다. 또한 격언을 중심으로 한 프랑스어 학습 활용 방안과 관련한 선행 연구들을 분석함으로써 프랑스어 학습에 활용될 수 있는 가능성에 초점을 맞추었다. 두 번째 부분에서는 학습자들의 프랑스어 능력과 학습 내용의 난이도에 따라 초급 단계와 중급 단계로 구분하여 실제 학습에서 활용할 수 있는 예들을 살펴볼 것이다. 이를 통해 우리는 격언이 문화적인 영역의 요소일 뿐 아니라 프랑스어 학습 능력을 향상시킬 수 있는 효율적인 학습 자료로 활용될 수 있다는 점을 강조하였다. 언어 학습에서 문화적 요소의 중요성은 이미 오래 전부터 강조되어 왔다. 따라서 학습자의 수준과 학습 내용을 고려한 문화적 특성을 지니는 격언의 교육 현장에서의 적용은 교수법의 측면에서 학습의 효율성을 높일 수 있을 것이다.

Development Web-based Arabic Assessments for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students

  • Arabic skills are the tools by which children are prepared for the educational procedures on which their life depends. Deaf and hard of hearing students (DHH), must be able to grasp the same Arabic terms as hearing students and their different meanings in a context of different sentences less than what they are supposed to be due to their inability. However, problems arise in the same Arabic word and their different meanings in a context for (DHH) students since the way of comprehending such words does not meet the needs and circumstances of (DHH) students. Therefore, researchers introduce web-based method for Arabic words and their meanings in a context prototype that can overcome those problems. Methodology: The study sample consists of 30 (DHH) students at Al Amal City of Palestine, Gaza Region (GR). Those participants that agreed to take part in this study were recruited using a purposeful sampling method. Additionally, to examine the survey information descriptively, the Statistical Packages for social Sciences (SPSS) version 24.0 was used. A sign language teaching movie is utilized in the prototype to standardize the process and verify that Arabic vocabulary and their implications are comprehended. The Evolutionary Process Model of Prototype technique was utilized to create this system. Finding: The findings of this study show that the prototype built is workable and has the ability to help DHHS differentiate between phrases that have the same letters but distinct meanings. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to a better understanding and application of Development of Web-based Arabic Assessments for (DHH) Students in developing countries, which will help to increase the use of Development of Web-based Arabic for (HDD) students in those countries. The empirical models of Web-based Arabic for (DHH) students are established as a proof of concept for the proposed model. The results of this study are predicted to have a significant impact to the information system practitioners and to the body of knowledge.

초등학교 교사의 그림책 접근점 요구에 관한 연구 (A Study on Elementary School Teachers' Needs for Access Points for Picture Books)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 교수매체로써 그림책을 탐색하고자 하는 초등학교 교사들의 접근점에 대한 요구를 파악하고 학교도서관 DLS(Digital Library System)의 접근점 개선방안을 제안하는 것이다. 이를 위해 먼저 국내외 7개 도서관 온라인목록시스템에서 제공하는 접근점을 조사하였다. 그리고 초등학교 교사들을 대상으로 온라인 설문조사를 실시하여 최종적으로 220개의 응답을 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 교사들이 가장 필요로 하는 그림책의 접근점은 주제, 학년/연령, 내용, 교과/단원, 범교과학습주제 등으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구는 필요성이 높게 나타난 접근점을 DLS의 목록레코드에서 제공하고, 통제어휘집을 개발하고, 시스템의 기능이나 인터페이스를 개선하여 그림책에 대한 접근성을 향상시키는 방안을 제안하였다.
