Spray Characteristics of the Pressure Swirl Injector for the APU Gas Turbine Engine (APU 가스터빈엔진 압력식 스월인젝터의 분무특성)

  • Spray characteristics of the APU gas turbine engine were investigated. In order to understand blow out phenomena of the APU engine, we performed fuel spray test. In the test, four operating conditions such as sea level idle, sea level max power, 20,000 feet idle, 20,000 feet max power were used as spray experimental conditions. PDPA(phase Doppler Particle Analyzer) was used for measuring the particle diameter and velocity. Also spray visualization was performed by using ND-YAG sheet laser beam. From the test result, in the case of 20,000 feet idle condition, SMD is about 100 ${\mu}m$ and maximum particle velocity is about 10 m/s. For the flame stability, spray quality should be improved at 20,000 feet idle condition.

An Experimental Study on the Improvement of Resistance Performance at Pre-planing Condition for G/T 100 ton Class Planing Hull Form (총톤수 100톤급 활주형선의 활주 전 저항성능 개선에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This study was carried out at the CWC of Chosun university for the purpose of resistance performance improvement of planing hull, and the results of the tests were confirmed cooperatively with WJFEL. G/T 100 ton class planing hull form was selected, and the improvement of hull form including appendages were performed by using some model test techniques. The model test scope comprises resistance relative tests including wave profile observation, trim and sinkage measurement and flow visualization tests at full load and trial conditions for one bare hull and for two appended hulls. The final wedge and spray strip combined with improved hull form showed about 1.0 knot speed improvement at both of full and trial conditions, and outstanding improvement for fore wave phenomena.

  • A novel electro-mechanical implantable ventricular assist system is developed as a bridge to transplantation or recovery for patients with end-stage heart failure. The developed system is composed of an implanted blood pump, an external monitoring system which stores data, and a wearable system including a portable external driver and a portable power supply system. The blood pump is designed to be implanted into the left upper abdominal space and provides blood flow from the left ventricular apex to the aorta. The pulsatile blood flow is generated by a double cylindrical cam. There was mo excessive heat emission from the blood pump into the temperature-controlled chamber in the heat test and no stagnated flow within the blood sac by the observation in the flow visualization test. Animal experiments were performed using sheep and calves. The maximum assist flow rate reached 7.85L/min in the animal experiment. The evaluation results showed that the developed system was feasible for the implantable ventricular assist system. The long-term in vitro durability test and mid-term in vivo experiments are in progress and mow the modified next model is under development.

  • Spray characteristics for the simplex atomizer are investigated. The atomizer was tested with kerosene which is generally used as a fuel for gas turbine engines. But it is very difficult and dangerous to measure spray performance. So water is used as a working fluid for measuring the droplet information. In this study, spray visualization was performed by using ND-Yag Laser and droplet size was measured by using PDPA system by using two different working fluid such as water and test fluid # 2 which has similar characteristics of the kerosene. The test results show that SMD of water bigger than test fluid # 2 about 5$\sim$15 mm because surface tension of water is higher by a factor of 3.   • The present work pertains to a research program to study Molten Fuel-Coolant Interactions (MFCI), which may occur in a nuclear power plant during a hypothetical severe accident. Dynamics of the hot liquid (melt) droplet and the volatile liquid (coolant) were investigated in the MISTEE (Micro-Interactions in Steam Explosion Experiments) facility by performing well-controlled, externally triggered, single-droplet experiments, using a high-speed visualization system with synchronized digital cinematography and continuous X-ray radiography. The current study is concerned with the MISTEE-NCG test campaign, in which a considerable amount of non-condensable gases (NCG) are present in the film that enfolds the molten droplet. The SHARP images for the MISTEE-NCG tests were analyzed and special attention was given to the morphology (aspect ratio) and dynamics of the air/ vapor bubble, as well as the melt drop preconditioning. Energetics of the vapor explosion (conversion ratio) were also evaluated. The MISTEE-NCG tests showed two main aspects when compared to the MISTEE test series (without entrapped air). First, analysis showed that the melt preconditioning still strongly depends on the coolant subcooling. Second, in respect to the energetics, the tests consistently showed a reduced conversion ratio compared to that of the MISTEE test series.

  • The wind tunnel test data for the missile configuration were compared with analysis results using various semi-empirical code and CFD analysis code. The three types of configurations were used for comparison including 2 types of main wing, inline and interdigitate configuration that the main wing and tail intersect. Additionally, it was confirmed that the vortex flow was accurately predicted by comparing the CFD analysis result with the flow visualization test result.

Analyzing the Performance Expectations of the 2022 Revised Mathematics and Science Curriculum from a Data Visualization Competency Perspective (데이터 시각화 역량 관점에서 2022 개정 수학/과학 교육과정의 성취기준 분석)

  • This study examines the performance expectations (PEs) and clarification statements of each PE in the 2022 revised national science and mathematics education standards from a data visualization competency perspective. First, the authors intensively reviewed data visualization literature to define key competencies and developed a framework comprising four main categories: collection and pre-processing skills, technical skills, thinking skills, and interaction skills. Based on the framework, the authors extracted a total of 191 mathematics and 230 science PEs from the 2022 revised science and mathematics education standards (Ministry of Education Ordinance No. 2022-33, Volumes 8 and 9) as the main data set. The analysis process consisted of three steps: first, the authors organized the data (421 PEs) by the four categories of the framework and four grade levels (3-4th, 5-6th, 7-9th, and 10th grade); second, the numbers of PEs in each grade level were standardized by the accomplishing period (1-3 years) of each PE depending on the grade level; lastly, the data set was represented by heatmaps to visualize the relationship between the four categories of visualization competency and four grade levels, and the differences between the competency categories and grade levels were quantitatively analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test and independent sample Kruskal-Wallis tests. The analysis results revealed that in mathematics, there was no significant difference between the number of PEs by grade. However, on average, the number of PEs categorized in 'thinking skills' was significantly lower than those in the technical skills (p = .002) and interaction skills categories (p = .001). In science, it was observed that as grade level increased, PEs also increased (pairwise comparison: Grades 5-6 vs. 7-9, p = .001; Grades 5-6 vs. Grade 10, p = .029; Grades 3-4 vs. 7-9, p = .022). Particularly, the frequency of PEs in 'thinking skills' was significantly lower than in the other skills (pairwise comparison: technical skills p = .024; collection and pre-processing skills p = .012; interaction skills p = .010). Based on the results, two implications for revising national science and mathematics standards and teacher education were suggested.

Development of System Integration Laboratory for the Verification of UAV Avionics System Requirements (무인기 항공전자시스템 요구도 검증을 위한 통합시험환경 개발)

  • As part of the integration phases in developing a UAV, a System Integration Laboratory (SIL) has been developed to provide integrated test capability for the verification of avionics system requirements. The SIL has realized primary functions that are common in manned aircraft SIL's, and specialized laying stress on test data visualization and test automation under the closed-loop structure of the ground control simulation, aircraft simulation and flight simulation components. Those design results have led to easy and sure verification of lots of complex requirements of the UAV avionics system. The functions and performances of the SIL have been proved in four gradational test steps and checked to operate successfully in aircraft System Integration Test Environment for the integration of UAV ground station and aircraft.

The characteristics of the flow field around canvas kite using the CFD (CFD를 이용한 범포 주위의 유동장 특성)

  • This research aims at establishing the fundamental characteristics of the kite through the analysis of the flow field around various types of kites. The approach of this study were adopted for the analysis; visualization by CFD(computational fluid dynamics). Also, the lift/drag and PIV(particle image velocimetry) tests of kites had been performed in our previous finding. For this situation, models of canvas kite were designed by solidworks(design program) for the CFD test using the same conditions as in the lift/drag tests. And we utilized FloWorks as a CFD analysis program. The results obtained from the above approach are summarized as follows: According to comparison of the measured and analyzed results from mechanical tests, PIV and CFD test, the results of all test were similar. The numerical results of lift-coefficient and drag-coefficient were 5-20% less than those of the tests when attack angle is $10^{\circ},\;20^{\circ}\;and\;30^{\circ}$. In particular, it showed the 20% discrepancy at $40^{\circ}$. The numerical results of the ratio of drag and lift were 8-13% less than those of the tests at $10^{\circ}$ and 10% less than those of the tests at $20^{\circ},\;30^{\circ}\;and\;40^{\circ}$. Pressure distribution gradually became stable at $10^{\circ}$. In particular, the rectangular and triangular types had the centre of the high pressure field towards the leading edge and the inverted triangular type had it towards the trailing edge. The increase of the attack angle resulted in the eddy in order of the rectangular, triangular and inverted triangular type. The magnitude of the eddy followed the same order. The effect of edge-eddy was biggest in the triangular type followed by the rectangular and then the inverted triangular type. The action point of dynamic pressure as a function of the attack angle was close to the rear area of the model with the small attack angle, and with large attack angle, the action point was close to the front part of the model.

Development of Instructional Materials and Test Items for Students' Spatial Ability (중학교 학생의 공간능력을 위한 학습자료와 문항개발)

  • The study was to develop the instruments including instructional materials and test items for enhancing spatial ability. A mixed methodology was chosen to achieve the purpose of the study. To find students' achievement, 5 units of instructional materials were developed through the qualitative method and test items were tested through the quantitative method with 152 of the 8th-graders. The strategies to develop the instructional materials were: firstly to focus on mathematics properties for developing spacial ability; secondly, to allow students to follow hierarchical procedure o[ mathematical properties from 2-d to 3-d; thirdly, to recognize what the manipulative can do and can not; and fourthly, to guide students tn develop the process oriented thought, not the result oriented thought. For the test, 25 items were analyzed to assess students' achievement using validity, difficulty, and discriminator.
