인포그래픽을 중심으로 살펴본 초등 과학교과서 시각화 자료의 유형과 역할 (Types and Roles of Visualization Materials in Elementary Science Textbook focusing on Infographics)

  • The visualization materials in science textbooks are very important in students' learning. Recent visualizations are increasingly emphasizing the importance of infographic visualizations. The purpose of this study is to analyze the visualization materials in $5^{th}$ and $6^{th}$ elementary science textbook focusing on infographics. Visualization materials were classified into infographic and simple illustration. Infographics were classified into 8 sub-types. Findings are as follows. First, infographics were 19.0%, and simple illustrations were 81.0% among elementary textbooks' visualization materials. The portion of infographic varied by content areas. In Biology and Earth Science area, the portions of infographic were high. Second, several types of infographics were used in elementary science textbooks. Timeline infographic were the most frequent, and emphasis infographic, concept mapping infographic, comparison infographic were used frequently. The most frequent types of infographic were different by content area. Third, infographics used more than simple illustrations in the role of concept explanation. Educational implications on science textbook's infographics were discussed.

중학교 과학 교과서에서 과학 내용 영역에 따른 인포그래픽의 특징 분석 (An Analysis of the Infographics Features according to the Scinece Content's Domains in Middle School Science Textbooks)

  • 본 연구는 중학교 과학교과서 2종에 수록된 시각화자료들을 데이터시각화와 인포그래픽으로 나누어 분류한 후, 인포그래픽 분석틀에 따라 에너지, 물질, 생명, 지구의 과학 내용 영역별로 인포그래픽의 유형과 특징을 분석하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 중학교 과학 교과서에서 시각화 자료는 인포그래픽(평균 23.20%)보다 데이터시각화(평균 76.80%)에 해당하는 자료가 더 많았다. 둘째, 인포그래픽은 정보내용의 영역에서 과학 교과의 영역별로 서로 다른 특징을 보였다. 에너지와 물질 영역에서는 정보내용 중 '관계'에 해당하는 내용이 많았고, 생명 영역에서는 '기능', 지구 영역에서는 '위치'와 관련된 정보내용이 많이 나타났다. 과학 전체 영역에서 시각표현 유형은 일러스트형과 비교분석형이 주로 사용되었으며 레이아웃 유형은 수평형이 가장 많은 비율을 차지하였다. 따라서 과학교과서에서 제시하는 그림은 단순 정보를 전달하는 데이터시각화보다 인포그래픽으로 표현하여 제시할 필요가 있으며, 과학의 각 영역별로 다양한 인포그래픽 유형을 활용한 교과서 개발이 필요하다.

An Easy-to-Use Three-Dimensional Molecular Visualization and Analysis Program: POSMOL

  • Molecular visualization software has the common objective of manipulation and interpretation of data from numerical simulations. They visualize many complicated molecular structures with personal computer and workstation, to help analyze a large quantity of data produced by various computational methods. However, users are often discouraged from using these tools for visualization and analysis due to the difficult and complicated user interface. In this regard, we have developed an easy-to-use three-dimensional molecular visualization and analysis program named POSMOL. This has been developed on the Microsoft Windows platform for the easy and convenient user environment, as a compact program which reads outputs from various computational chemistry software without editing or changing data. The program animates vibration modes which are needed for locating minima and transition states in computational chemistry, draws two and three dimensional (2D and 3D) views of molecular orbitals (including their atomic orbital components and these partial sums) together with molecular systems, measures various geometrical parameters, and edits molecules and molecular structures.

Music Visualization Expression in Modern Fashion - Focus on the application of Mondrian's paintings to Alexander McQueen's 2014 Spring Ready-to-wear Collection -

  • This study analyzes music visualization characteristics in modern fashion based on Wassily Kandinsky's music visualization theory. Alexander McQueen's 2014 Spring Ready-to-wear Collection (as inspired by Mondrian's paintings) was selected as the research subject. First, an analysis of Mondrian's paintings based on Wassily Kandinsky's theory shows that music visualization characteristics can be categorized into spatiality, mobility, and duality. Second, McQueen applied Mondrian's paintings to the overall design, structured the model's shape in the painting, or created patterns using colors and lines that introduced them in clothes; symbolic forms were also introduced as part of or a decorative factor of the clothes. Third, spatiality refers to the creation of a feeling of space through emptiness or fill using lines, colors, and shape. Musical atmosphere such as dissonance were expressed in clothing through the application of color contrast, lines and silhouette dynamics, and symbolic format and patterns by Mondrian. Fourth, mobility generally refers to motion caused by a certain stimulus. Mondrian expressed vibration, internal resonance, sound level in music that emphasized color irregularity, primary color contrast, and rough brush touches as well as free and organic patterns. McQueen expressed this with primary color contrast using different materials, rough touch based on texture, and pattern repetition through transformation. Fifth, duality generally refers to the artistic effect caused by overlap. Mondrian created a resemblance of dissonance and music through line and color as expressed through the duality of clothing design components based on the artistic sense of the designer.

Secure Transmission for Interactive Three-Dimensional Visualization System

  • Purpose Interactive 3D visualization system through remote data transmission over heterogeneous network is growing due to the improvement of internet based real time streaming technology. Materials and Methods The current internet's IP layer has several weaknesses against IP spoofing or IP sniffing type of network attacks since it was developed for reliable packet exchange. In order to compensate the security issues with normal IP layer, we designed a remote medical visualization system, based on Virtual Private Network. Results Particularly in hospital, if there are many surgeons that need to receive the streaming information, too much load on the gateway can results in deficit of processing power and cause the delay. Conclusion End to end security through the network method would be required.

  • In the post-information era, most of technologies have a visual part, or at least some functions related to visualization. It is also one of the popular means of presenting materials in education area. However, despite its popularity, the impact of visualization on the effectiveness of learning still remains controversial. Even more controversial is its usefulness in developing creativity, which is one of the most important skills for today's employee. The authors considered the use of visualization as a tool for the development of children's creativity on the example of learning video games, in particular, ClassCraft to distinguish features that, from the point of view of psychology, may lead to developing creativity even being not useful for educational purposes. It is concluded that video games useful for learning may have features, that are inappropriate in formal educational context, but important to develop creative thinking.

  • 정보 특성 시각화는 기존의 정보 검색 기법과 시각화 기법을 통합하여 방대하고 다양한 인터넷 정보에 대한 이해도를 높임으로써 정보 검색 시 요구되는 시간과 노력을 감소시키며, 검색된 결과에 대한 통계치를 시각적으로 보여줌으로써 검색 결과 중에 정보에 관련된 동향을 파악하는데 유용하다. 전자 도서관의 예에서 볼 수 있듯이 최근 정보 시각화에 관한 관심이 증가하면서 주로 선진국을 중심으로 여러 가지 시각화 기법에 대한 연구와 이를 적용한 검색 시스템들이 개발되고 있다. 따라서 이 논문에서는 정보의 특성을 체계적이며 시각적으로 표현하기 위해, 정보 시각화의 구성 요소를 다양한 뷰를 통해 획일화하고 구조적 정보 분류 기법을 적용한 새로운 차원의 패러다임을 제시하고, 사용자가 보다 쉽게 정보를 항해하고 정보에 대한 이해도를 향상시키기 위한 검색 도구를 개발함으로써 검색 정보에 대한 사용자 이해도와 검색의 효율을 향상시켰다.

현대 패션에 표현된 안티포름의 영향 - 시간성을 중심으로 - (Influence of Anti-Form in Contemporary Fashion - Focusing on Signs of Time -)

  • In order to examine the influence of Anti-form in contemporary fashion focusing on 'signs of time', which illustrates the zeitgeist effects art and fashion, this study investigates both Anti-form movement in art of 1960s and 1970s and the fashion designs since 1970s when the signs of the influence of Anti-form in fashion began to appear. This was done by conducting literary survey as well as case analysis. Anti-form values the process and signs of time in that it visualizes the time and the process of making artworks. The emphasis on signs of time in Anti-form is observed in postmodernism fashion. Visualization of manufacturing process, visualization of signs of wearing, and continuation of wearing experience are all influences of the Anti-form in fashion. Visualization of manufacturing process exposes the techniques and the materials involved in garment construction such as linings, inside-out seams, interlinings, and unraveled hems, as well as the use of muslin, which is used in making garment prototypes. Signs of wearing is articulated in wrinkles caused by wearing, sings of alteration, reappeared designs of the past collections, reuse of vintage fabrics or garments, and the fabrics which assumes aged appearance. Continuous experience of a wearer is indicated in that the garment shape is not predetermined but changes continuously by the wearer's body shape and movement, which generates new and relative silhouettes continuously.

  • Using the premise that fashion and art reflects the characteristics of its times, this study examines the influence of Anti-form in fashion with a focus on physicality. This study combines literary survey and case analysis of both Anti-form in 1960s and 1970s and the fashion collections since 1970s when the influence of Anti-form began to appear in fashion. The influence of Anti-form focusing on physicality is summarized as deconstruction of garment and visualization of the physicality of material. Deconstruction of garment visualizes the invisible structures of garment by deconstructing, restructuring, and deforming the construction and the shapes of the garment, which is illustrated by visualization of design process, overlapping and fusing of materials, loss of stitches, and use of fabrics with flaws, questioning and destroying the sartorial conventions and aesthetic standards. Visualization of the physicality of material exposes the imperfect inside of garment which is concealed conventionally by presenting unfinished garments with minimized sewing procedure, crumpling and flattening fabrics, rubbing and fading surfaces, pulling threads, as well as using the selvages of fabrics.

  • The Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry(ESPI) has been applied to many technical problems such as deformation and displacement measurement, strain visualization and surface roughness monitoring. Composite materials have various complicated characteristics depending on the ply materials,ply orientations,ply stacking sequences and boundary conditions. Therefore, it is difficult to analyze composite material. For efficient use of composit materials in engineering applications, the dynamic behavior such as, natural frequencies and modal patterns should be identified. This studying presents FEM results for the free vibration of symmetrically laminated composite as [30/-30/90] $_{s}$. The natural frequencies of laminated composite rectangular plates having the boundary condition(:2-edge clamped) are experimentally obtained. In order to demonstrate the validity of the experiment,FEM analysis using ANSYS was performed and natural frequencies experimentally obtained is compared with calculated by FEM analysis. The results obtained from both experiment and FEM analysis show a good agreement.t.
