Methods. The subjects were 4,600 workers volunteering at the oral health education program part of the industrial health education of some area work places. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, chi-square test, Rogistic regression analysis. Results. The results of chronic disease risk factor according to oral health practice behaviors show that currently drinking and smoking, not visiting to the dentist for last year, fewer toothbrushing were associated with chronic disease risk factors. This result was statistically significant as well.(p<0.05). Risk factors influencing chronic disease were gender, age, job period, dental clinic visiting, the number of toothbrushing, perceived oral health state, smoking, and drinking, these were statistically significant as well(p<0.05). Conclusions. Chronic disease that could threaten workers health was related with the oral health practice behavior. Therefore through factors identification affecting general health and oral health, dental care providers aims to increase workers awareness of health care behavior and lifestyle and to suggest periodical health education promotion program for high risk workers who exposed to risk factors of disease within workplace.
The present study attempted to analyze the influence of the mother's demographic characteristics and knowledge on oral health as well as dental care behaviors on her practice of using dental care institutions. A self-report survey was conducted among 172 mothers of children aged 5-6 attending on three preschools located in Daegu metropolitan city. Statistical analysis was conducted using the SAS 8.01 with $X^2$-test, t-test and logistic regression. The obtained results were as follows: 1. No significant association was found among the demographic characteristics of the mother, her past experience as well as the purpose of using dental care institutions. 2. There was significant relationship between the mother's knowledge and behavior concerning oral health and her past experience of using dental care institutions; the mothers having a higher level of knowledge and who thought they themselves didn't have healthy teeth and gum tended to have more visits to dental care institutions(pE0.05). There was also significant relationship between their purpose and their actual practice of using dental care institutions: the mothers having a higher level of knowledge and who thought their own oral health was good tended to visit dental institutions more for the preventive purpose than for treatments(pE0.05). 3. As a result of logistic regression, the variables formed as models were their knowledge on oral health and their values for oral health. The standardized coefficients for the two variables were -0.19 and 0.19, respectively. For the mother's purpose of visiting dental care institutions, the variables formed as models were their knowledge on oral health and their values for oral health. The standardized coefficients for the two variables were -0.40 and -0.37, respectively. The relative contributions of the two variables to the mother's practice of using dental care institutions were on the similar level.

Objectives: This study aimed to examine the opinions of registered dental hygienists (RDH) and dental hygiene students (DHS), professionals who can practice visiting oral health care (VOHC), and the demand for specialized training courses of RDH for VOHC. Methods: Using a Google online survey, 125 RDH and 106 DHS personnel were surveyed on their perception of VOHC and the operation of special training courses. Results: RDH (97.6%) and DHS (96.1%) agreed that they needed VOHC for older people. Moreover, the qualification course for specialized training for VOHC was considered necessary. Regarding the appropriate curriculum, RDH preferred training programs comprising 2-hours classes over 6 months and 15 weeks and so on, and DHS preferred 3 hours classes over 6 months and 15 weeks and so on. Regarding the desired working type, the RDH preferred the half-day system, whereas the DHS preferred the alternate-day system. The Korean Dental Hygienists Association was intended for human resource development. They agreed that continuing education was necessary when working as a visiting RDH, and many responded that they would participate if a specialized training course was opened. Conclusions: RDH and DHS have a high level of awareness of the importance and necessity of VOHC, and consider a specialized training qualification course necessary for efficient VOHC.

Purpose: This study was conducted to identify health problems and support received from the health and welfare service using MDS-HC(Minimun Data Set for Home Care) in the aged living at home. Method: Eighty-one elderly persons were selected from those listed in community-welfare service centers in Seoul and Kyunggi Province between December 2002 and January 2003. Result: Eleven health problems per elderly person on average were identified, and the frequent care needs were in order: preventive health measure, health promotion, visual function, depression & anxiety, communication disorders, social function, pain, environmental assessment, oral health, cognition and falls. The number of health problems by the level of ADL was ‘ADL 1(Independence)’ 9.87, ‘ADL 2(Partial independence)’ 12.78, ‘ADL 3(Dependence)’ 13.73. Utilization of formal health & welfare services among the elderly was ‘meals on wheels’ 40.7%, ‘home helper’ 38.2%, ‘visiting of social welfare worker’ 21.0%, ‘physical therapy’ 19.6%, ‘day care center’ 12.3%, ‘volunteer's service’ 9.9%, ‘home visiting care’ 3.7%, ‘occupational therapy’ 3.7%, and ‘speech therapy’ 2.5%. Conclusion: The results suggest that using the MDS-HC 2.0 is applicable to help decide criteria for both health and welfare service supplied to the elderly.
Given that the demand for dental care for elderly individuals is expected to increase according to demographic changes, long-term roadmaps for the current health insurance system should be actively planned. The study aimed to investigate the health insurance system in Korea, compared to that of Japan, and suggest directions for the work of dental hygienists to provide basic data on efficient improvements in the health insurance system. Based on the collected data, the website was used to collect additional related data from Korea and Japan. The most common cause of death in Korea was malignant neoplasms, and most patients were hospitalized for diseases and disorders of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue. Dental care covered by Korean medical insurance for individuals aged 65 years or older was treatment oriented, such as dentures and implants, while in Japan, treatment-intensive items, such as visiting a dental hygienist for guidance and provision of home-care professional oral hygiene treatment, were covered. The percentages of remaining teeth in Korea and the percentage of remaining 20 teeth were 68.9% in those aged 65 to 74 years and 51.2% in those aged 75 to 84 years in Japan. A strategy for promoting oral health among elderly individuals should be established, and a multilateral intervention approach is required to prevent oral problems from leading to deterioration of whole-body health. The role of dental hygienists in providing comprehensive assessment to elderly individuals is important. In order to provide systemic oral care, it is necessary to introduce oral care systems according to the national policy.
Purpose: This study is to propose the establishment and direction of a public health-medical cooperation system for rehabilitation medical services for people with physical and brain disabilities in Gangneung, Korea. Research design, data and methodology: The study focused on 30 individuals with these disabilities registered. Data was collected from December 20, 2021, to December 31, 2021, through structured surveys administered by researchers visiting disability-related facilities, utilizing convenience and random sampling methods. Descriptive statistics and cross-analysis were applied for analysis. Results: Specifically, among respondents with physical disabilities, a total of 20 needs were identified, with 'Visiting health services' (25.0%) and 'Oral health services' (20.0%) ranking highest. The survey results regarding visit-based rehabilitation services for disability support showed a high demand, emphasizing the necessity of service provision tailored to the needs of recipients, focusing on disability prevention, health management, and motor function recovery, rather than solely medical or therapeutic concepts. OHIP was influenced by number of toothbrushing, time of toothbrushing, use of oral hygiene device, and dental visit within a year. PHP index was influenced by the area of toothbrushing, time of toothbrushing, and the dental visit within a year. Regression analysis of PHP index according to OHIP and oral care conditions showed the equation. Y(OHIP)=2.999+0.103(area of toothbrushing)+0.346(the use of oral hygiene article)+ 0.077(visiting to the dentist during the past one year)-0.173(PHP index)(p<0.05).
