  • This report described the development of Vision Inspector program which can simulate numerically the image acquisition process of Machine Vision System for automatic optical inspection of any products. The program consists of an illuminator, a product to be inspected, and a camera with image sensor, and the final image obtained by ray tracing.

  • In this paper, we developed a auto sorting system for T type welding nut using a vision inspector. We used edge and thread detection with histogram of image which is captured by machine vision camera. We also used a binary morphology operation for a detection of spot. As a result we performed numeric inspection of 0.1mm accuracy. This is impossible in old sorting system and inspector with naked eye. Also, we reduced the manufacturing unit cost to 25% and improved a production efficiency to 330%.

  • In this paper, we propose a improvement method of vision inspector for T type welding nut using an auto sorting system. We used edge and thread detection with histogram of image which is captured by machine vision camera. We also used a binary morphology operation for a detection of spot. A major problem in this vision inspector is abnormal operation caused by degradation of image acquired. These degradations caused by oil pollution on conveyer belt. For overcome this problem, we introduce a pre-processing using a masked histogram equalization on the image acquired. Histogram equalization is applied on masked region (nut part) for increase contrast. As a result, we can remove features caused by oil pollution on background and reduce a ratio of abnormal operation from 10.0 % to 0.2 %.

  • Pantograph sliding plate abrasion auto-detect system, one of the electric rail car auto-detecting devices, is a system that decides how much abrasion and when to replace without an inspector physically looking at the abrasion on the wet plate using machine vision, a cutting-edge technology. This paper covers the cause of deteriorating reliability that affects pantograph wet plate edge detection doe to noise added to the video when it rains. In order to remove such noise, problems should be checked through Smoothing, Averaging mask and Median filter using filtering technique and stable edge detection without being affected by noise should be induced in video measurement used in machine vision technology.

  • With the increased use of lasers in industrial welding applications, techniques for monitoring and controlling these processes become increasingly important. It is very important that we understand the dynamic behaviors of the laser induced Plume in welding, because the laser induced plume has considerable effects on welding efficiency and the quality of materials. As the plume fluctuation was associated with keyhole instability, unstable vapor plume indicated the process was unstable and would result in poor welds. An Infrared Thermal-vision Camera can be utilized compensate for incurracies encountered in real-time monitoring during laser welding. We have results that instabilities of plume are closely related with hot cracking and defect of laser welding.

  • In this paper, we develop a vision inspection system for inspecting flaws on plastic products such as insufficient moldings, spots, scratches. The inspection algorithm for this system consist of image binarization for curved structure of plastic products, image noise removal using morphology operation, labeling methods for candidate regions and image filtering and calibration method for flaw inspection. In order to improve its performance, we also develop fast image processing algorithm based on GUI. To verify the effectiveness of this system, we conducted evaluation for the system accuracy and the inspection algorithm processing time.

  • It is dangerous that an inspector overhauls defects and condition of the inner parts of an oil tanker because of many harmful gases, complex structures, and etc. However, these inspections are necessary to many oil tankers over old years. In this study, we proposed the design of mobile robot for inspection of CAS in oil tanker. The developed CAS inspection mobile robot has four modules, a measurement module of oil tanker's thickness, a corrosion inspection module, a climbing module of the surface on a wall, and a monitoring module. In order to get over at a check position, the driving control algorithm was developed. Magnetic wheels are used to move on the surface of a wall. This study constructed a communication network and the monitoring program to operate the developed mobile robot from remote sites. In order to evaluate the inspection ability, the experiments about performance of CAS inspection using the developed mobile robot have been carried out.

  • Maintenance and repair devices used for the inspection of the main parts of domestic railway vehicles have been imported from abroad. Especially, one of the representative domestic devices, the 'Wheel Profile Inspector System (WPIS)', was made by benchmarking foreign devices; this vehicle has been operated in the field. However, problems such as the reliability and performance of the WPIS in operation have appeared. In this study, in order to improve the precision and reliability of the WPIS for maintenance and inspection of railway vehicle wheels, the researchers improved the railway vehicle's WPIS by applying high-speed vision camera technology and an optimized image algorithm. The test results show that the reliability of the developed WPIS improved by approximately 10.4% compared to that of the conventional system.
