  • In this paper, we investigate the viscoelastic plate equation with a constant delay term and logarithmic nonlinearities. Under some conditions, we will prove the global existence. Furthermore, we use weighted spaces to establish a general decay rate of solution.

  • To reduce the vibration in industrial settings, the viscous fluid dampers have been widely used. Since the damper shows a viscoelastic behavior, many methods to predict the behavior have been investigated. But the methods did not consider a change of damper size that is important factor for practical design engineer. In this study, to predict a change of damper ability with respect to a change of damper size, the dynamic experiment were conducted with fixed aspect ratio and gap. The damping coefficient at zero frequency was computed through theoretical and experiment approach in order to fit the experimental results using fractional derivative Maxwell model.

  • The rheological behavior of poloxamer 407 solution as function of concentration and temperature was evaluated by rotational viscometer. The viscosity of poloxamer 407 solution was increased as the concentration of poloxamer 407 and temperature increased. At $4^{\circ}C$, poloxamer 407 solution showed the Newtonian flow characteristics regardless of concentration. Upon increasing temperature the poloxamer solution changed to the pseudoplastic flow pattern. And at gelation temperature, rheological profiles showed the abrupt increase in viscosity. Gelation temperature was decreased as the concentration of poloxamer 407 increased, while it increased as the concentration of poly(ethylene glycol) 4000 increased. Poly(ethylene glycol) might be expected to reduce the driving force for hydrophobic interaction resulting in slow gelation. From the viscoelastic properties of poloxamer gel system, we obtained the storage and loss modulus depending on the shear stress and frequency. And the sol-gel transition temperature was also obtained from the viscoelastic properties of poloxamer 407 gel.

  • Stick-slip friction is one of the material removal mechanisms in tribology. It occurs when the static friction force is larger than the dynamic friction force, and make the friction curve fluctuated. In the friction monitoring of chemical mechanical polishing(CMP), the friction force also vibrates just as stick-slip friction. In this paper, an attempt to show the similarity between stick-slip friction and the friction of CMP was conducted. The prepared hard pa(IC1000/Suba400 stacked/sup TM/) and soft pad(Suba400/sup TM/) were tested with SiO₂ slurry. The friction force was measured by piezoelectric sensor. According to this experiment, it was shown that as the head and table velocity became faster, the stick-slip time shortened because of the change of real contact area. And, the gradient of stick-slip period as a function of head and table speed in soft pad was more precipitous than that of hard one. From these results, it seems that the fluctuating friction force in CMP is stick-slip friction caused by viscoelastic behavior of the pad and the change of real contact area.

  • We have investigated the transient behavior of 1D fully developed Poiseuille viscoelastic flow under finite pressure gradient described by the Oldroyd-B and Leonov constitutive equations. For analysis we employ a simple $2^{nd}$ order discretization scheme such as central difference for space and the Crank-Nicolson for time approximation. For the analysis of the Oldroyd-B model, we also apply the analytical solution, which is obtained again in this work in terms of elementary solution procedure simpler than the previous one (Waters and King, 1970). Both models demonstrate qualitatively similar solutions, but their eventual steady flowrate exhibits noticeable difference due to the absence or presence of shear thinning behavior. In the inertialess flow, the flowrate instantaneously attains a large value corresponding to the Newtonian creeping flow and then decreases to its steady value when the applied pressure gradient is low. However with finite liquid density the flow field shows severe fluctuation even accompanying reversals of flow directions. As the assigned pressure gradient increases, the flowrate achieves its steady value significantly higher than its value during oscillations after quite long period of time. We have also illustrated comparison between 1D and 2D results and possible mechanism of complex 2D flow rearrangement employing a previous solution of [mite element computation. In addition, we discuss some mathematical points regarding missing boundary conditions in 2D modeling due to the change of the type of differential equations when varying from inertialess to inertial flow.
