  • The effects of geometrical parameters on mechanical properties of graphite-vinylester nanocomposites and their constituents (matrix, reinforcement and interface) are studied using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Young's modulii of 1.3 TPa and 1.16 TPa are obtained for graphene layer and for graphite layers respectively. Interfacial shear strength resulting from the molecular dynamic (MD) simulations for graphene-vinylester is found to be 256 MPa compared to 126 MPa for graphitevinylester. MD simulations prove that exfoliation improves mechanical properties of graphite nanoplatelet vinylester nanocomposites. Also, the effects of bromination on the mechanical properties of vinylester and interfacial strength of the graphene.brominated vinylester nanocomposites are investigated. MD simulation revealed that, although there is minimal effect of bromination on mechanical properties of pure vinylester, bromination tends to enhance interfacial shear strength between graphite-brominated vinylester/graphene-brominated vinylester in a considerable magnitude.

  • In this study, the spectra was surface-treated using $Ar^+$ ion beam to improve the tensile property of spectra/vinylester composites. The effect of surface treatment on the tensile property of spectra/vinylester composites was investigated comparing tensile strength and stiffness of surface-treated spectra/vinylester composites with those of untreated spectra/vinylester composites. The results showed that the tensile strength and stiffness of surface-treated s spectra/vinylester composites were 12% and 22% higher than those of untreated spectra/vinylester composites.

  • In this study, MMT/fiber/polymer composites were fabricated by impregnating chopped strand glass mat into a vinylester resin mixed with clay. Tensile tests has been performed by using a universal testing machine to determine the effect of MMT addition on the tensile properties of MMT/chopped strand glass fiber/vinylester composites. And some pictures which are magnified cross section of breaking parts are has been taken by using a FE-SEM to confirm the behavior at breaking. The contents ratio of MMT applied in the composites were 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 wt% respectively. It has been found that the tensile strength and elastic modulus of MMT/chopped strand glass fiber/vinylester composites were improved at a proper content of MMT. Tensile strength and elastic modulus were maximized at a content of 1.0 wt% due to most effective dispersion of MMT. On the contrary, the failure strain was increased as MMT content was increased.

  • We investigated the surface treatment of spectra fibers to improve tensile properties of spectra/vinylester composites. The spectra fibers were surface-treated using $\textrm{Ar}^{+}$ ion beam under oxygen environment. The treatment effect of spectra fibers on the tensile properties of spectra/vinylester composites was determined comparing the residual strength of surface-treated spectra/vinylester composites with that of untreated spectra/vinylester composites. It was found that the residual strength was improved 15% by the surface treatment of spectra fibers.

  • The use of Spectra fibers as fiber cloth is increasing because of their excellent impact resistance. However, a major limitation on the use of Spectra fibers is a chemical inertness. In this Study, Spectra fibers were surface-treated using Ar$^{+}$ ion beam under oxygen environment to improve the tensile property of Spectra/vinylester composites. The effect of surface treatment of Spectra fibers on the tensile property of Spectra/vinylester composites was determined from tensile tests using Spectra/vinylester composite specimens with and without a hole. It was found that the tensile stiffness and strength of surface-treated case were 22% and 17% higher than those of untreated case for specimens with no hole. The maximum load of surface-treated case was about 15% higher than that of untreated case for specimens with a hole.

  • UV curing technology becomes important in various sectors of applications due to the high efficiency, environmental protection, and saving of energy. The effect of different proportion of vinylester (VE) and unsaturated polyester (UP) for VE/UP blend system was investigated in context of mechanical properties. The compositions of VE/UP blend were varied within 0:100, 20:80, 40:60, 60:40, 80:20, and 100:0 by weight percent. 1 wt% 1-hydroxy-cyclohexyl-phenyl-ketone was used as photoinitiator. The used intensity of UV light was in the range of $40~70 mW/\textrm{cm}^2$. The flexural strength of vinylester was not sensitive to the intensity of UV light. But the unsaturated polyester was very sensitive to the intensity of UV light. The flexural strength of vinylester was always superior to that of unsaturated polyester. The addition of the vinylester increased the flexural strength of blend system.

  • Port facilities and marine structures used in marine environment were encountered to corrosion damages because of the influence of Cl-. Generally, to protect these accidents, anti-corrosion paint and epoxy coating have been used. But they were still remained erosion-corrosion damage like impingement erosion, cavitation erosion and deposit attack. It is necessary to develope the new composite lining material in order to protective those corrosion damages. In this paper, polyester glass flake, vinylester glass flake lining and epoxy coating for SS400 were investigated by the electrochemical polarization test and the impingement-cavitation erosion test for corrosion behaviour under the sea water. The main results obtained are as follows ; 1) Epoxy coating appear potentiodynamic polarization behaviour, but polyester glass flake and vinylester glass flake lining do not appear potentiodynamic polarization behaviour. 2) Open circuit potential of polyester glass flake lining is more noble than that of epoxy coating and corrosion current density of polyester glass flake lining is less drained than that of epoxy coating in sea water. 3) Open circuit potential of vinylester glass flake lining is more noble than that of polyester glass flake lining and corrosion current density of vinylester glass flake lining is less drained than that of polyester glass flake lining in the sea water.

  • In the present paper, an extended composite beam theory that has no restriction on the lay-up and can account for Poisson effect which is significant for composite materials is proposed. Buckling equations for composite thin-walled members which are subjected to axial compression are derived based on the composite beam theory. In order to check the validity of the derived buckling equations, the results of experiments on the flexural-torsional buckling of vinylester/E-glass and polyester/E-glass pultruded T-section members and the flexural buckling of vinylester/E-glass pultruded H-section members are used as numerical examples. The comparison of the analytical results to the experimental and FE analysis results reveals that the proposed buckling equations predict the buckling loads of pultruded members conservatively by about 7%.

  • Polyurethane oligomers (PUOs) such as UA8297, UP127 and EB8200 were utilized to enhance the anti-bullet property of Dyneema$^{(R)}$/vinylester composites. First, prepregs of PUO and vinylester (XSR10) were prepared via spray coating on Dyneema$^{(R)}$ fabric at 21 % resin content (by volume). In addition, spray coating and film lamination were also carried out with a mixture of XSR10/PUO for selected PUOs. Next, the prepregs were dried at RT for 1-2 h and then at $100^{\circ}C$ for 30 min to remove the solvent and to provide partial cure when necessary. The prepregs were stacked in 24 layers and cured at $120^{\circ}C$ for 5 min under the contact pressure and for additional 25 min at 150 $kg/cm^2$. Finally, the anti-bullet properties of composite samples were evaluated by measuring $V_{50}$ with simulated fragment projectile (SFP, 17 gr). The results showed a 6.5 and 9.0 % increase of $V_{50}$ with UP127 and EB8200, respectively.
