An Observational Study on the Behaviors of 4-to 5-Year-Olds in the Cooperative/Competitive Situation (경쟁/협동상황에서의 4-5세 아동의 상호작용 관찰 연구)

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate how 4-to 5-year-olds approach a competitive/cooperative task to obtain a resource. Sex and age differences were examined for the behavior and resource utilization of this task. The subjects were 74 same-age, mixed sex groups of 4 children each in three kindergartens in a large city. Each group of 4 children were classmates. The children were videotaped in a play situation where one child could view a cartoon movie (i. e. acquiring a resource) with the assistance of two children (one to turn the film tape and one to push the light-button), and the fourth child was a bystander. Time at each position and physical and verbal behavior constitute the data which were analyzed by ANOVA and ${\chi}^2$. The results of the time analysis showed that children cooperated quickly and were able to view the cartoon(resource utilization) for a large part of the session. High resource utilizers compared with low resource utilizers, exhibited more self-assertive and helping behaviors. Boys achieved more viewing time while girls were bystanders for a greater amount of time. Boys showed more physical and verbal behaviors during the task. Four-year-olds achieved less viewing time than 5-year-olds, indicating 4-year-olds were less effective in eliciting the help of their peers.

  • Many stars are delivering various contents such as real time talks through Internet personal broadcasting to communicate with fans. For stars and entertainment companies that expect the effect of communicating with fans through Internet broadcasting, it can be said that it is important to grasp viewers' viewing motivation and satisfaction. Thus, we analyzed the viewing motivation and satisfaction of Chinese viewers' Internet personal broadcasting of famous celebrities based on the uses and gratifications approach. To this end, an online survey was conducted, and as a result, 'emotional motivation' and 'functional motivation' were found as Chinese viewers' motivation for viewing Internet personal broadcasting of famous celebrities. In addition, it was found that viewers' satisfaction increased as the viewers' 'emotional viewing motivation' increased. From the results of this study, it seems that a strategy of subdividing programs by reflecting the audience characteristics such as age and occupation is needed. It can be a way to expand the number of viewers and the intended broadcasting effect by designing and producing programs for personalized celebrity internet broadcasting by segmenting audiences.

The effect of viewing distance and the speed of motion-in-depth on visual fatigue (시각적 피로도에 영향을 미치는 시청거리와 깊이방향의 운동속도)

  • The present study have investigated the effect of the characteristics of stereoscopic images and viewing environment on visual fatigue. We manipulated the speed of stereo images with motion-in-depth and viewing distance, which were used as representative variables of the characteristics of stereo image and viewing environment, respectively. Visual fatigue was evaluated with use of a subjective questionnaire which is consisting of 5 different and independent factors: "Eye pain", "Visual stress," "Nauseousness", "Body stiffness", and "Blurriness". In general, when viewing time increased from 10 minutes to 20 and 40 minutes, observers felt severe visual fatigue. Among other factors, only the factor score of "Nauseousness" was significantly increased as the speed of object moving in depth became faster. When viewing distance was increased, the score of "Blurriness" was decreased. These results suggest that different kind of the visual fatigue might be induced depending on characteristics of the stereo images and viewing environment.

  • In multi-media, multi-channel era, video viewing using various digital devices via the Internet, not the existing broadcasting network, is emerging as a new broadcasting viewing behavior. OTT service is regarded as the main service of this change of viewing behavior. It is a video service that can seamlessly use any content desired by the user at any time, at any time, any device, any contents, if the Internet connection is available. The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors affecting the satisfaction of OTT service by applying the technology acceptance model (TAM). As a result of analyzing through 303 questionnaires of the early users of OTT service, social pressure, perceived popularity, perceived cost, user reputation, individual innovation, and esthetics set as external factors in this study are partially affects perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and perceived enjoyment. In addition, perceived usefulness, ease of use, and enjoyment are directly influencing satisfaction. Based on these results, we discuss the theoretical and practical implications and propose future research direction.

Analysis on Attraction Power and Holding Power of Exhibition Areas at Science Museum(II) - Focused on Analysis on Exhibition Method of Exhibition Spaces - (과학계 박물관 전시공간의 흡입력과 지속력 분석(II) - 전시영역별 연출매체의 분포특성 분석을 중심으로 -)

  • This study analyzed visitors' behaviors in the viewpoint of Attraction Power and Holding Power of exhibits on the basis of exhibition layout of real science museums. Through the analysis, the study grasped efficiency of analysis index and exhibition environment elements which might have an effect on planning the exhibition space of a large-scale museum and producing detailed ranges of exhibition. The main indicators used are: 1. Attraction Power: it indicates the relative incidence of people who have stopped in front of an object/exhibit during the exhibition tour. It is calculated by dividing the number of people who stop by the total number of people who have visited the museum or gallery. 2. Holding Power: it measures the average time spent in front of an information/communication element. It is calculated by dividing the average time of stay by the time "necessary" to read an element. As a result of analyzing the exhibition areas of National Science Museum (Daejeon) and National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation(Tokyo), the Holding Power was found to be relatively lower than the Attracting Power. This means that 3.5 out of 10 visitors stop in front of the exhibit in 6 exhibition areas, and among these, only 1/10 is used when compared to the user required time of the exhibits. In other words, like the method of deriving an analysis index, the stage of viewing can be categorized as Attracting Power and Holding Power, and because the stage from Attracting Power to the stage of Holding Power are strongly linked, it shows that it is not easy to display a meaningful result. Except, the general distribution of Attracting Power was shown to be high from the entrance area of the exhibition hall based on the standard of viewing sequence. Also, the Holding Power became sequentially lower according to the sequence of exhibition viewing and displayed a meaningful interrelationship with the distribution ratio of island exhibits. In the case of island exhibition method, it is less influenced by the movement flow of visitors when compared to the wall type method of exhibition and can be understood as an exhibition method that provides spatial chances enabling stopping and viewing.

Proposed Assessment for Quality of Experience of Live IPTV in Home Environments

  • As the speed of networks that subscribers can use has greatly increased, demand for high-quality broadcast content, such as from Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and Video on Demand (VoD), is likewise increasing. Therefore, while broadcasters are increasing content and channels, they are striving to improve consumer quality of experience (QoE) to differentiate themselves from competitors, including by producing higher physical-quality content. Recently, subjective measurement methods have been internationally standardized as the most reliable approach for measuring and evaluating IPTV QoE. However, a majority of these methods are performed in experimental environments and are based on the extremely brief viewing period of approximately ten seconds using original reference videos. It is actually difficult to apply standard evaluation methods based on a ten-second viewing interval to assess real broadcast watching of IPTV or other services that involve a longer time (i.e., more than thirty minutes). In this paper, we therefore propose a method that accommodates actual viewing environments. Using the mean opinion score, we experimentally analyze the effects of evaluation interval changes under actual conditions in which IPTV service is provided. In addition, we propose improvements by applying the results into actual live broadcast IPTV service and by analyzing consumer service QoE.

The Expressive Effects of Queen Elizabeth I's Rebes in Cinema (영화의상에 나타날 엘리자베스 여왕 1세 로브의 표현효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the expressive effects of Queen Elizabeth I's robes in cinema and also to present two examples of Queen Elizabeth I's robes designed and made based on these expressive effects. To this end, this study wilt first examine Queen Elizabeth I's robes in her portraits according to the visual definers and emblematic meanings. Then on the basis of these knowledges, analyze visual definers and viewing priorities of Queen Elizabeth I's robes in five movies. Thereinafter, these robes will be classified based upon Belong(1998)'s four expressive effects. excitement. calmness, strength and delicacy. Finally, this study will demonstrate calmness and delicacy among four expressive effects through two robes made for the purpose. After analyzing the expressive effects of robes in five Queen Elizabeth I's movies, one can conclude excitement. calmness, strength, and delicacy can be found according to the flow of the story. Since this analysis focuses mainly on one particular person during one Particular period of time, there was a fundamental silhouette prevalent among the Queen's robes which then can be classified into different forms. Moreover, Queen's character in itself embodies authority and grace which. in turn, facilitates the presentation of the four expressive effects along the story line. In conclusion, thorough historical research on the character and the period. in addition to analysis of the visual definer and viewing priorities, is imperative when designing a historical costume.

The Past Landscapes of Gyeong-Po Lake (경포호의 옛모습 추정- 기록자료를 중심으로 -)

  • Due to the pressures from surrounding conditions, the current Gyeong-Po Lake has been loosing its original appearance. Historically, the value of Gyeong-Po Lake has been highlighted at the Ru-Jeongs, which were once used to enjoy the various lakeside landscapes. However, the changes in physical appearance of the lake surroundings have ruined the value of the Ru-Jeongs, and even more changed the view point. As an initiating effort to reestablish and to manage the traditional visual landscapes of the lake, this study puts its emphasis on the traditional point of view. Also, this study tries to find the traditional visual values that are not visible at the current time, based on historic literature such as historic documents, paintings and poems. One of the important findings of this study is that viewing the different landscapes was more highly valued than their physical configurations in historic literatures, and that the focal points in viewing landscape were the Ru-Jeongs(누정). Hence, this study suggests that it is necessary to set the Ru-Jeongs, including Gyeong-Po(경포), Bang-Hye(방해), Hwan-Sun(환선), and Ho-Hae(호해), as the focal points for viewing the landscapes in order to reestablish and manage the traditional landscapes of Gyeong-Po Lake.

Electro-Optic Characteristics of the Fringe-Field driven Reflective Hybrid Aligned Nematic Liquid Crystal Display (Fringe-Field 구동형 반사형 Hybrid Aligned Nematic 액정 디스플레이의 전기-광학 특성)

  • We have performed computer simulation and experiment to obtain electro-optic characteristics of reflective hybrid aligned nematic (R-HAN) cell driven by fringe field, in which the cell consists of polarizer, optical compensation film, LC layer and reflector. Conventional R-HAN cell driven by fringe field using only the LC layer shows high wavelength dispersion at dark-state and thus viewing angle characteristic is strongly wavelength-dependent. In order to improve this demerit, we added one optical compensation film to conventional R-HAN cell. The display with optimized cell parameters shows low wavelength dispersion at dark-state and exhibits a wide viewing angle without the occurrence of grey scale inversion over a wide range of viewing angles and the contrast ratio greater than 5 over exists about 120$^{\circ}$ in vortical direction and 160$^{\circ}$in horizontal direction. Experimental results show good agreements with theoretical results and fast response time.

  • This study sheds light on the Instagrammable features and viewing experiences of . A research model and hypotheses are formulated using variables including Experience Quality (EQ), Perceived Value (PV), Attitude toward AWA (ATAWA) and Behavioral Intention toward AWA (BITAWA). Although AWA has strong the Instagrammable features in terms of PV, it provides aesthetic or healing experience rather than a pleasure. PV has a significant correlation with DOS and DOI, but it does not influence on BITAWA. In addition, DOS has a positive impact on the increase in DOI, length of viewing time and intention to upload and share photos on Instagram.
