In designing a video-on-demand (VoD) system, the major challenge may be how to reduce the channels concurrently used maintaining the client's waiting time. For this reason, the various architectures which integrate the multicast streams with the unicast streams were suggested in order to improve channel efficiency in recent years. In combining multicast with unicast, the ways to group the unicast channels together are important so that clients can share the multicast transmission channels. This paper proposes a hybrid video-on-demand system which gathers the unicast channels in new ways and shares multicast transmission channels efficiently by using dynamic channel allocation architecture. The numerical results demonstrate that the proposed architecture in some case achieves performance gain of $551{\%}$ compared to existing architecture. This paper presents procedure of channel release and reuse, performance analysis, and simulation results of the dynamic channel allocation architecture.

In providing video-on-demand (VoD) services to a number of clients through networks, the bandwidth requirements of video transmission restrict VoD services. For this reason, many significant broadcasting-based VoD schemes have been proposed to efficiently support services. However, the broadcasting-based VoD schemes approach needs frequency channel hopping, using many channels at the same time and managing many segments of a video. These make it difficult to implement. In this paper, we propose a Harmonic Staggered broadcasting scheme which has a simple structure and substantially improved VoD efficiency. The numerical results demonstrate that the viewer's waiting time of the Harmonic Staggered broadcasting scheme is close to the harmonic broadcasting scheme and the maximum buffer requirements of this can be adapted for demanding rate by adjusting the short front part of a video sizes.

In designing a video-on-demand (VoD) system, one of the major challenges is how to reduce the viewer's waiting time maintaining a given bandwidth allocation and how to reduce the client's buffer requirements. To solve these problems, many VoD schemes were proposed. However, most VoD schemes require managing many segments of a video, frequency channel hopping, and using many channels at the same time. Therefore, to the complexity is a barrier to implementation. In this paper, we propose a fast staggered broadcasting scheme which has a simple structure and substantially improved VoD efficiency. The numerical results demonstrate that the viewer's waiting time of the fast staggered broadcasting scheme is close to the fast broadcasting scheme and the buffer requirements of this can be adapt for demanding rate by adjusting the short front part of a video sizes.

A periodic broadcasting is known as an efficient technique for delivering popular videos to reduce bandwidth requirements for transmitting streaming video to viewers in video-on-demand (VoD) services. However, the most periodic VoD schemes approach needs frequency channel hopping, many segments of video managing, and using many channel at the same time. These make it difficult to implement. In this paper, we propose a Staircase Staggered broadcasting scheme which has a simple structure and substantially improved VoD efficiency. The numerical results demonstrate that the viewer's waiting time of the Staircase Staggered broadcasting scheme is close to the staircase broadcasting scheme and the maximum buffer requirements of this can be adapted for demanding rate by adjusting the short front part of a video sizes.

Due to the continued demand for high-definition video, video compression technology is steadily developing and the High Efficiency Video Coding standard was established in 2013. However, despite the development of this compression technology, it is very difficult to smoothly transmit VGA-level videos in Ultra-narrowband environments. In this paper, the target information preprocessing algorithm is presented for smooth transmission of target images moving in forest or open-terrain in Ultra-narrowband environment. In addition, for algorithm verification, the target information preprocessing algorithm was simulated and the simulated results were compared with the video compression result without the algorithm being applied.

As the demand for video streaming has been rapidly increasing recently, video streaming schemes for increasing the efficiency of radio resource has attracted a lot of attention. In this paper, we propose an adaptive video streaming scheme to enhance the efficiency of video streaming by using receivers' caching capability. The proposed streaming scheme can transmit video data on a broadcast basis even when two clients request different video data, only if specific conditions satisfied, while existing schemes can only transmit video data on a broadcast basis only when two clients request the same video data. In this paper, we mathematically derive the average transmission time of the proposed scheme and the approximation of the average transmission time. The accuracy of the mathematical analysis is verified by simulations. Mathematical analysis and simulation results show that the proposed scheme can significantly reduce the average transmission time, compared to the existing scheme.

High efficiency video coding (HEVC) appears due to the demand on high compression video coding beyond H.264/AVC in ultra-high definition (UHD) videos. As for intra prediction, HEVC has 35 prediction modes while H.264/AVC has 9 intra modes. To exploit the spatial correlation, we adopt an edge detection method, establish the edge map, and adaptively select the candidate modes using the acquired edge information in a block. The number of the candidate modes is determined through trade-off between computational complexity and coding efficiency. Besides, the range of coding unit sizes is determined using the uniqueness of the edge directions for the given image block. As a result, we reduced the encoding time by 56.8% at the cost of 2.5% BD-BR increase on average compared to Full modes at the HEVC reference software (HM 6.0 [1]).

In this paper, we propose a smart HLS(HTTP Live Stream) platform with dynamic single buffering for the best transmission of adaptive video bit-rates. This smart HLS can optimizes the channel transition zapping-time with the monitoring of bandwidth between HLS server and OTT(Over The Top) client. This platform is designed through the control of video stream due to proper multi-bitrates and bandwidths. This proposed OTT can decode the live and VOD(Video On Demand) videos with the buffering of optimumal bitrate. And, the HLS can be cooperated with a smart OTT, and segmented for the m3u8 files of H.265 MPEG-2 TS(Transport Stream) videos. As a resullt, this single buffer based smart OTT can transmit optimal videos with the maximum data buffering according to the adaptive bit-rate depending on the network bandwidth efficiency and the decoded VOD video, too.
As a demand for a new video coding standard having higher coding efficiency than the existing standards is growing, recently, MPEG and VCEG has been developing and standardizing the next-generation video coding project, named Versatile Video Coding (VVC). Many inter prediction techniques have been introduced to increase the coding efficiency, and among them, an adaptive motion vector resolution (AMVR) technique has contributed on increasing the efficiency of VVC. However, the best motion vector can only be determined by computing many rate-distortion costs, thereby increasing encoding complexity. It is necessary to reduce the complexity for real-time video broadcasting and streaming services, but it is yet an open research topic to reduce the complexity of AMVR. Therefore, in this paper, an efficient technique is proposed, which reduces the encoding complexity of AMVR. For that, the proposed method exploits a special VVC tree structure (i.e., multi-type tree structure) to accelerate the decision process of AMVR. Experiment results show that the proposed decision method reduces the encoding complexity of VVC test model by 10% with a negligible loss of coding efficiency.
Point Cloud which is a cluster of numerous points can express 3D object beyond the 2D plane. Each point contains 3D coordinate and color data basically, reflectance or etc. additionally. Point Cloud demand research and development much higher effective compression technology. Video-based Point Cloud Compression (V-PCC) technology in development and standardization based on the established video codec. Despite its high effective compression technology, point cloud service will be limited by terminal spec and network conditions. 2D video had the same problems. To remedy this kind of problem, 2D video is using Scalable High efficiency Video Coding (SHVC), Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) or diverse technology. This paper proposed a density scalability method using SHVC codec in V-PCC.
