This paper presents an adaptive interpolation filtering scheme for the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard. In regards to interpolation for motion estimation and compensation, the conventional HEVC employs 8-tap and 4-tap filters for luma and chroma samples, respectively. Coefficients in such filters are determined by discrete cosine transform (DCT). In the proposed scheme, boundary strength values are stored after the execution of the deblocking filter. For each block, the sum of boundary strength values is calculated to indicate whether its region is complex or simple. Consequently, based on the region classification, 12-tap and 8-tap interpolation filters are used for complex and simple regions, respectively. This process is applied to luma sample interpolation only. Simulation results show 1.8% average BD-rate reduction compared to the conventional method.
The Intelligent Space(ISpace) provides challenging research fields for surveillance, human-computer interfacing, networked camera conferencing, industrial monitoring or service and training applications. ISpace is the space where many intelligent devices, such as computers and sensors, are distributed. According to the cooperation of many intelligent devices, the environment, it is very important that the system knows the location information to offer the useful services. In order to achieve these goals, we present a method for representing, tracking and human following by fusing distributed multiple vision systems in ISpace, with application to pedestrian tracking in a crowd. And the article presents the integration of color distributions into particle filtering. Particle filters provide a robust tracking framework under ambiguity conditions. We propose to track the moving objects by generating hypotheses not in the image plan but on the top-view reconstruction of the scene. Comparative results on real video sequences show the advantage of our method for multi-object tracking. Also, the method is applied to the intelligent environment and its performance is verified by the experiments.
In this letter, we propose a new prediction block filter that can reduce errors between the original and prediction blocks. The proposed filter adaptively adjusts filter coefficients by using the previously reconstructed adjacent blocks and their prediction blocks. Then, the filter is selectively applied to the current prediction block according to the rate-distortion optimization. Moreover, since the same filter coefficients can be derived in the decoder, they are not encoded into the bit-stream. The proposed method achieves a 4.65% bitrate saving on average compared with H.264/AVC.

A moving object detection algorithm for surveillance video is here proposed which employs background initialization based on two-stage median filtering and a background updating method based on state transition diagram. In the background initialization, the spatiotemporal similarity is measured in the subinterval. From the accumulated difference between the base frame and the other frames in a subinterval, the regions affected by moving objects are located. The median is applied over the subsequence in the subinterval in which regions share similarity. The outputs from each subinterval are filtered by a two-stage median filter. The background of every frame is updated by the suggested state transition diagram The object is detected by the difference between the current frame and the updated background. The proposed method showed good results even for busy, crowded sequences which included moving objects from the first frame.
In this paper, an algorithm is presented to recognize lane and obstacles based on highway road image. The road images obtained by a video camera undergoes a pre-processing that includes filtering, edge detection, and identification of lanes. After this pre-processing, a part of image is grouped into 27 sub-windows and fed into a three-layer feed-forward neural network. The neural network is trained to indicate the road direction and the presence of absence of an obstacle. The proposed algorithm has been tested with the images different from the training images, and demonstrated its efficacy for recognizing lane and obstacles. Based on the test results, it can be said that the algorithm successfully combines the traditional image processing and the neural network principles towards a simpler and more efficient driver warning of assistance system

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) that has been a main research topic of computer vision and artificial intelligence now extend its applications to detection of text area from video or image contents taken by camera devices and retrieval of text information from the area. This paper aims to implement a binarization algorithm that removes user intervention and provides robust performance to outdoor lights by using TopHat algorithm and channel transformation technique. In this study, we particularly concentrate on text information of outdoor signboards and validate our proposed technique using those data.
In this paper, a method of ghost cancelling for the television signals using complex adaptive filter is studied. The sin(x)/x signal is used as the reference signal a complex adaptive filter. The ghost cancelling characteristics considering the delay time, the attenuation, and the phase difference of multipath waves are investigated using horizontal sync pulse and color burst signal in composite video waveform. The influences of phase difference in ghost cancelling are investigated and the performances between the real processing and the complex processing are compared by the computer simulation. It was found that influences in ghost by phase difference are remarkably reduced by the complex adaptive filtering.
