H.264/AVC is an international video coding standard that is established in cooperation with ITU-T VCEG and ISO/IEC MPEG, which shows improved code and efficiency than the previous video standards. Motion estimation using various macroblock from 44 to 1616 among the compression techniques of H.264/AVC contributes much to high compression efficiency. Generally, in the case of small motion vector or low complexity about P slice is decided $P16{\times}16$ mode encoding method. But according to circumstances, macroblock is decided $P16{\times}16$ mode despite large motion vector. If the motion vector variance is more than threshold and final select mode is $P16{\times}16$ mode, it is switched to $P8{\times}8$ mode, so this paper shows that the storage capacity is reduced. The results of experiment show that the proposed algorithm increases the compression efficiency of the H.264/AVC algorithm to 0.4%, even reducing the time and without increasing complexity.
MPEG and VCEG have constituted a collaboration team called JCT-VC(Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding) and have been developing the HEVC(High Efficiency Video Coding) standard. The next generation video coding standard HEVC shows higher compression rate compared with the H.264/AVC standard, but the encoder computational complexity of the HEVC encoder is significantly high. In order to reduce this computational complexity in the HEVC encoder, a fast prediction unit decision is proposed. The proposed fast prediction unit decision method reduces the encoder complexity by skipping the remaining prediction units if the current prediction unit does not have any non-zero quantized transform coefficient. The proposed method reduces the encoder computational complexity by 50.3% comparing with HM6.0 but it maintains the same level of coding efficiency.
In a recent year, the broadcasting system has been changed from analogue to digital all over the world, not just in Korea, and Korea aims at accomplishing 100% digital broadcasting by 2013. The HD(High Definition) Video Format, which currently plays a key role in digital broadcasting system, has been gradually extended in the field of broadcasting and movie. Additionally, many kinds of camcoders and editing systems have been rapidly converted into the digital types, and they are supporting to photograph and video editing systems with the various types of image formats such as SD(Standard Definition) format, HD format, 2K, 4K, etc. Tape Video Storage System, which has been usually used in the stage of photographing by this day, is gradually evolving into Tapeless Video Data Storage System. Thus in this study, Video Compression method of HD format photographed by Sony PMW-EX3, one of major tapeless camcoders, is studied and also the way of applying it effectively in Avid Media Composer, a non-linear editing system, is discussed.

Recently, H.264 SE(scalable extension) has become a standard of next generation multimedia service which is one source, multi-user service in the telecommunication environment of different kinds of networks and terminal equipments. But existing DRM schemes for multimedia service are not fit for H.264 SE system. Because the amount of transmitted multimedia data is changed considering network environment and terminal equipments' performance by the system, but in the existing DRM schemes, the amount of handled multimedia data are not variable according to network environment and terminal equipments' performance. In this paper, an information security scheme combined video watermarking and encryption is presented for H.264 SE. Amount of watermarks and embedding positions are calculated by the frame number of enhancement layers which are created according to the state of networks and terminal equipments. In order to minimize delayed time by video watermarking and encryption, the video data are watermarked and encrypted in the H.264 SE compression process. In the experimental results, we confirmed that proposed scheme is robust against video compression, general signal processing and geometric processing.

H.264 is the prominent video coding standard in various applications such as real-time streaming and digital multimedia broadcasting, since it provides enhanced compression performance, error resilience tools, and network adaptation. Compression efficiency of H.264 has been improved, however, it requires more computing and memory access than traditional methods. In this paper we proposed adaptive intra fast algorithm for real-time video surveillance system reducing the encoding complexity of H264/A VC. For this aim, temporal interrelationship between macroblock in the previous and the current frame is used to decide the encoding mode of macroblock fast. As a result, though video quality was deteriorated a little, less than 0.04dB, and bit rate was somewhat increased in suggested method, however, proposed method improved encoding time significantly and, in particular, encoding time of an image with little changes of neighboring background such as surveillance video was more shortened than traditional methods.
Recently, MPEG-I (Immersive) has been exploring compression performance through standardization projects for immersive video. The MPEG Immersion Video (MIV) standard technology is intended to provide limited 6DoF based on depth map-based image rendering (DIBR). MIV is a model that processes the Basic View and the residual information into an Additional View, which is a collection of patches. Atlases have the unique characteristics depending on the kind of the view they are included, requiring consideration of the compression efficiency. In this paper, the performance comparison analysis of screen content coding tools such as intra block copy (IBC) is conducted, based on the pattern of various views and patches repetition. It is demonstrated that the proposed method improves coding performance around -15.74% BD-rate reduction in the MIV.

MPEG-4 Visual is, and international standard for the object-based video compression, designed for supporting a wide range of applications from multimedia communication to HDTV. To control the minimum decoding complexity required at the decoder, the MPEG-4 Visual standard defines the co-called video buffering mechanism, which includes three video buffer models. Among them, the VCV(Video Complexity Verifier) defines the control of the processing speed for decoding of a macroblock, there are two models: VCV and B-VCV distinguishing the boundary and non-boundary MB. This paper presents the evaluation results of decoding complexity by measuring decoding time of a MB for rectangular, arbitrarily shaped video objects and the various types of objects supporting the resolution of HDTV using the optimized MPEG-4 Reference Software. The experimental results shows that decoding complexity varies depending on the coding type and more effective usage of decoding resources may be possible.
This paper proposes a video compression algorithm using characteristics of wavelet coefficients. The proposed algorithm can provide lowed bit rate and faster running time while guaranteeing the reconstructed image qualify by the human virtual system. In this approach, each video sequence is decomposed into a pyramid structure of subimages with various resolution to use multiresolution capability of discrete wavelet transform. Then similarities between two neighboring frames are obtained from a low-frequency subband which Includes an important information of an image and motion informations are extracted from the similarity criteria. Four legion selection filters are designed according to the similarity criteria and compression processes are carried out by encoding the coefficients In preservation legions and replacement regions of high-frequency subbands. Region selection filters classify the high-frequency subbands Into preservation regions and replacement regions based on the similarity criteria and the coefficients In replacement regions are replaced by that of a reference frame or reduced to zero according to block-based similarities between a reference frame and successive frames. Encoding is carried out by quantizing and arithmetic encoding the wavelet coefficients in preservation regions and replacement regions separately. A reference frame is updated at the bottom point If the curve of similarity rates looks like concave pattern. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm provides high compression ratio with proper Image quality. It also outperforms the previous Milton's algorithm in an Image quality, compression ratio and running time, leading to compression ratio less than 0.2bpp. PSNR of 32 dB and running tome of 10ms for a standard video image of size 352${\times}$240 pixels.

Block Truncation Coding, or BTC, is a type of lossy image compression technique for grayscale images. It divides the original images into blocks and then reduces the number of grey levels in each block to compute the mean and standard deviation. BTC has also been adapted to video compression. Another variation of BTC is Absolute Moment Block Truncation Coding. AMBTC is computationally simpler than BTC. In this paper, we proposed new image compression method based on BTC, which is applied patterns to improve compression rate and image quality. This method make two codebooks to extract 36 and 64 patterns from the highest frequency patterns in BTC. When you are compressing an image, you compare many block patterns to that of codebook and use to compress indexes of identical patterns. We experiment our proposed scheme with 36 patterns and the experimental results showed the compression rate of 1.37 bpp. In this paper, our proposed scheme showed higher compression rate rather than that of BTC. In experiment, we used standard images for the performance evaluation.

DVRs are the most common recording and displaying devices used for surveillance. Video compression plays a key role in DVRs for saving storage; the video compression standard, H.264/AVC, has recently become the dominant choice for DVRs. DVRs require various display modes, such as fast-forward, backward play, and pause; these are called trick modes. The implementation of precise trick mode play requires a very high decoding capability or a very intelligent scheme in order to handle the high computation complexity. The complexity is increased in many surveillance applications where more than one camera is used to monitor multiple spots or to monitor the same area using various angles. An implementation of a trick mode play and a frame buffer management scheme for the hardware-based H.264/AVC codec for multi-channel is presented in this paper. The experimental results show that exact trick mode play is possible using a standard H.264/AVC video codec with keyframe encoding feature at the expense of bitstream size increase.
