The stiff top layer in a soil profile, which can happen in winter, may change the isolation effect of the wave barrier. The research scope of this paper is the investigation of the propagation of surface waves in layered soil with a stiff layer on its top, and the isolation effect of the solid stiff wave barrier. The investigations have been performed numerically by the Boundary-Element Method as a two-dimensional problem. A strip foundation vibrated harmonically in vertical direction was considered as the vibration source. Three soil profiles, a homogeneous half-space, two profiles with different thickness of stiff top layer, with two different types of wave barriers were investigated. The profiles with a stiff top layer show considerable reductions of the amplitude of the vibration in comparison to the homogeneous soil profile. The layered soil profiles with a stiff top layer do not show wave propagation velocities as high as they are expected from the material properties. Furthermore the vibration amplitudes in a frozen soil are much smaller with distance than in a non-frozen soil.
A free vibration analysis and wave propagation of functionally graded porous beams has been presented in this work using a high order hyperbolic shear deformation theory. Unlike other conventional shear deformation theories, a new displacement field that introduces indeterminate integral variables has been used to minimize the number of unknowns. The constituent materials of the beam are assumed gradually variable along the direction of height according to a simple power law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. The variation of the pores in the direction of the thickness influences the mechanical properties. It is therefore necessary to predict the effect of porosity on vibratory behavior and wave velocity of FG beams in this study. A new function of the porosity factor has been developed. Hamilton's principle is used for the development of wave propagation equations in the functionally graded beam. The analytical dispersion relationship of the FG beam is obtained by solving an eigenvalue problem. Illustrative numerical examples are given to show the effects of volume fraction distributions, beam height, wave number, and porosity on free vibration and wave propagation in a functionally graded beam.
By applying sonic wave technology in Vibration Exercise Equipment, we introduced an completely new concept of device into the fitness and medical industry creating a new trend. Sonic Vibration Exercise Equipment which got over the limit of technology will be easily accessible not only by professional athletes but also by ordinary users and even minority groups such as disabled, elderly, children.

An investigation into asymmetric vibrations of a clamped circular plate under a hannonic excitation is made. We examine a primary resonance, in which the frequency of excitation is near the natural frequency of an asymmetric mode of the plate. We found not only a response having the form of standing wave but also one having the form of traveling wave, which was not observed by Sridhar, Mook and Nayfeh(1978; Journal of Sound and Vibration 59(2), pp. 159-170).

In the semiconductor and the optical industry a new transport system which can replace the common system is required. The common systems are driven by magnetic field and conveyer belt. The magnetic field damages semiconductor and contact force scratches the optical lens. The ultrasonic wave driven system solve these problem. In this paper the object transport system using the excitation of ultrasonic wave is proposed. The experiments for finding the optimal excitation frequency, finding phase-difference between two ultrasonic wave get orators are performed. The effect of transporting speed according to the change of weight and amplification voltage are verified. In addition, the system performance for actual use is evaluated.

For successful guided-wave damage inspection, the appropriate signal processing of measured wave signals is very important. The objective of this paper is to introduce an efficient signal processing technique especially suitable for the guided-waves used for damage detection. The key idea of this technique is to model guided-waves by chirp functions of special form considering the dispersion phenomenon. To determine the parameter of the chirp functions simulating guided-waves, the matching pursuit algorithm is employed. The damage information in waveguides can be extracted by pulse-characterizing parameters. The effectiveness of present method is checked with the longitudinal wave-based damage inspection.
Propagating waves (flexural, longitudinal and shear waves) travelling with constant amplitudes and evanescent waves decaying exponentially are generated on a cylindrical shell. Evanescent waves are generally generated in the vicinity of an vibration excitation point and near ends of the shell. But the evanescent waves can generates strong axial vibration at the ends of the cylindrical shell. The strong end axial vibration due to those evanescent waves has been observed in an author's previous paper dealing with measurements of the in-plane axial vibration of a finite cylindrical shell. In this paper the strong end axial vibration due to the evanescent waves has been theoretically analyzed. In order to analyze the vibration of the cylindrical shell, wave propagation approach has been implemented. Comparison between theoretical and experimental results for the axial vibration of the shell showed that the strong evanescent wave can be generated due to mode conversion (conversion from flexural wave to evanescent wave) at the ends of cylindrical shell. It also showed that the evanescent wave can generate the strong axial vibration near the ends of the cylindrical shell and that it can have effect even on 1/3 of the total length of the shell.
For the simulation of piping vibrations in petrochemical plants, forcing functions mainly depend upon the equipment working mechanism and vibration resources in the piping systems. In general, harmonic function is used to simulate rotary equipment. Mechanical driving frequencies, wave functions, and response spectrum are used to simulate reciprocating compressors, surge vibration of long transfer piping, and seismic/wind vibration, respectively. In this study, the general suggestions for forcing functions were reviewed and proposed the forcing function to simulate the spray injection system inside the pipe in which two different fluids are distributed uniformly. To confirm the results, the scheme was applied for a real piping system. The vibration mode of the real system was consistent with the 4th mode (26.725 Hz) obtained by simulation using the forcing function presented in this study.

In this study, reactions of central nervous systems working against different conditions of forced frequency and acceleration were measured and analyzed. The experiment are conducted with health men. The steady vibration conditions of forced frequency (0.315m/s2-1.0Hz, 0.315m/s2-10Hz and 10Hz-1.0m/s2) are used and the waves of EEG (Electroencephalogram) are measured. As a result, this paper shows that the ${\alpha}-wave$ of frontal lobe transfers from low to high frequency band under the vibration environment. Additionally, the average frequency of ${\alpha}-wave$ is higher under the vibration than under non-vibration environment. In the case of forced frequency of 1.0Hz-0.315m/s2, the feeling with the vibration are nearly same compared with the non-vibration condition. But in the case of 10Hz-1.0m/s2, uncomfortable feeling increased compared with the non-vibration condition. This study also shows the relationship between fluctuation slop and feeling. From this study, it is found that the effect of vibration on human depends on acceleration characteristics. Highly accelerating vibration is more harmful to human.
In this paper, an analytical analysis for the study of vibratory behavior and wave propagation of functionally graded plates (FGM) is presented based on a high order shear deformation theory. The manufacture of these plates' defects can appear in the form of porosity. This latter can question and modify the global behavior of such plates. A new shape of the distribution of porosity according to the thickness of the plate was used. The field of displacement of this theory is present of indeterminate integral variables. The modulus of elasticity and the mass density of these plates are assumed to vary according to the thickness of the plate. Equations of motion are derived by the principle of minimization of energies. Analytical solutions of free vibration and wave propagation are obtained for FGM plates simply supported by integrating the analytic dispersion relation. Illustrative examples are given also to show the effects of variation of various parameters such as(porosity parameter, material graduation, thickness-length ratio, porosity distribution) on vibration and wave propagation of FGM plates.
