  • It is essential to control noise and vibration in various industrial fields. In the automobile industry, various plastics have been developed and replaced metallic materials in order to reduce mass and vibration effectively. In this study, we measured and analyzed the Young's moduli and the loss factors of Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene(ABS) and Polypropylene(PP). In order to solve the fundamental error to determine the two quantities, a loudspeaker was used instead of conventional electromagnetic devices to generate bending motion to the specimens and a laser vibrometer was also used in detection of vibration signal of the specimen. The measured Young's moduli and loss factors of the ABS specimen were nearly constant as the temperature($-10{\sim}60^{\circ}C$) was increased. The loss factor of PP specimen showed peak value at $20^{\circ}C$ and it means that there is glass transition for the PP specimen. Young's modulus of PP specimen was linearly decreased as the temperature was increased.

  • This study aims to suggest the basic data for structural safety assessment and design considering building dynamic characteristics. For this purpose, ambient vibration measurement was practiced after studying international standards dealing with vibration measurements such as ISO, DIN and so on. Various types of situation and condition which help search the building natural frequencies through the field measurements were proposed.

  • Vibration of diesel engines in naval vessels causes structure vibration which is significant under water radiating noise source under CIS (Cavitation Inception Speed). So managing the vibration level of diesel engine is important for survivability and also durability of naval vessels. Therefore, in this research, a vibration criterion which is applied for Korean naval vessels are reviewed. It is compared with the DNV, ABS and merchant ship's diesel engine criteria. And also vibration data of three Korean naval vessels are analyzed. As a result, reasonable criteria of diesel engine vibration and shipbuilding standards are suggested.

  • Development of the linear motors is recently required to control a high-speed and high-resolution in the high-integrated and speed process industry. This paper presents vibration analyses as well as measurement standards of the newly developed linear motors through analyzing the vibration characteristics of the advanced products. Vibration experiments are conducted for identifying vibration level during operation. They are also included in the modal test to analyze dynamic characteristics. Analytic data using Finite Element Method (FEM) are compared with the results of the modal. The FEM and experiments make it possible to understand these characteristics. Further, through computer simulation for the behavior of moving part to be vibration source, the best acceleration pattern of moving part movement can be verified to achieve effective moving part positioning and reduce the vibration due to moving part movement.

  • Our previous study used a bar-type reference mirror to measure the relative distance to the target surface. The target measurement accuracy was required to $1{\mu}m$ PV for aspheric optical surface up to 1m in diameter. Earlier system suffers from the reference surface deformation when the measuring part moves. In order to reduce the deformation, measuring part and the reference part separated from each order in the new design. This system utilizes a kinematic support assembly using invar flexure to minimize the reference surface deformation under gravity and vibration. The surface deformation requirement of reference mirror is defined as of $0.2{\mu}m$ under gravity and 40Hz vibration. The finite element results, shows reference mirror deformation of $0.164{\mu}m$. The first resonance mode was computed to analysis 46.05Hz for reference part and 43.44Hz for measuring part. Thesis satisfies the frequency requirement.

  • One of the main objectives of noise control act is to define and ensure application and respect of noise exposure limits. Most European countries have prepared a legal framework for noise limits either by national laws, ordinances or municipal by-laws. This paper presents the current European standards.

  • Objective: The ride qualities of the six passenger cars were evaluated in 4 subjects on the highway and uneven road. The relation between vibration with driving velocity and driving posture were also investigated separately. Background: Ride comfort plays an important role in the vehicle design. Vibration is the one of the principal components associated with ride comfort. Method: The acceleration of the foot, hip and back were measured using B&K accelerometers in this study. The velocity of the passenger cars was maintained at a constant speed of 80km/h on the highway and 40km/h on the uneven road. For evaluating the effects of driving velocity and driving posture on vehicle's vibration level, separate experiments were performed on the highway with 5 different vehicle speeds and 5 different backrest angles, respectively. Results: The overall ride value of the luxury car showed the best result while the smaller car showed the worst value on the highway. On the uneven road the overall ride value level was increased 75~98%. All the vehicles had the SEAT value less than 1. Faster the velocity lowers the SEAT value. The ride quality in terms of vibration gets worst when the backrest angle increased. Conclusion: The smaller car had a first mode at the higher frequency and showed higher vibration level. SEAT value was mostly affected by the seat property not by vehicle. We ranked the luxury car seat had a best vibration reduction quality than others based on SEAT values. When the driving velocity increased, the overall ride values were increased proportionally and the SEAT values were somewhat decreased. Application: Evaluation of whole-body vibration in the passenger car.

  • In examining particulate deposits in the pipes of a chemical vapor deposition (CVD) system, vibration diagnostics is compared and studied against ultrasonic diagnostics, The latter method involves pulsing the outer wall of pipes with an ultrasonic sensor and analyzing the resulting echo to observe particulate deposits inside pipes. Vibration diagnostics examines the existence of particulate deposits by analyzing the difference in the frequencies generated when a vibrator is adhered to the outer wall of pipes. With ultrasonic diagnostics, good test results were obtained only when particulate deposits were attached to the inner wall of the pipes, After some time, however, particulate deposits were not detected properly, as the ultrasonic wave failed to cross the fine gaps created between the inner wall of the pipe and the deposits. The ultrasonic wave bounced back because of the dried particulate deposits on the wall. Thus, it has been proven that the ultrasonic diagnostics is not an appropriate means of examining the particulate deposits in a vacuum, On the other hand, vibration diagnostics succeeded in detecting the particulate deposits regardless of the lapsed time. In conclusion, the vibration diagnostics is being expected as the effective method in monitoring the particulate deposits inside pipes in the CVD system where the desired behavior is reduced frequency along with the particulate deposits in comparison to the case where the pipe is clean.

  • In this study, the effect of noise and vibration, and influence of ground improvement are evaluated and its application is analyzed through the example of SCP designed at ground improvement in Song-Do international city. consequently, it showes even comfortable result that it is about 5.0m of inner space, when the LVSCP method is applied, rather than that it is about 30m of inner space when the existing SCP is applied in vibration control standards 2.0mm/sec. In the noise, now that the many differences according to environmental factors like other equipment noise, limited space and so on at the time of the construction by LVSCP method are coming out, so we think that appro itate measures are needed according to surroundings. By the way, when it comes to the estimation of the ground improvement work before and after an improvement of LVSCP method, its result shows that it is satisfacttion to all the standards of compaction control in dregded and reclaimed ground and sedimentary clay layer.
