Automatic vessel collision-avoidance systems have been studied in the fields of artificial intelligence and navigation for decades. And to facilitate automatic collision-avoidance decision-making in two-vessel-encounter situation, several expert and fuzzy expert systems have been developed. However, none of them can negotiate with each other as seafarers usually do when they intend to make a more economic overall plan of collision avoidance in the COLREGS-COST-HIGH situations where collision avoidance following the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea(COLREGS) costs too much. Automatic Identification System(AIS) makes data communication between two vessels possible, and negotiation methods can be used to optimize vessel collision avoidance. In this paper, a negotiation framework is put forward to enable vessels to negotiate to optimize collision avoidance in the COLREGS-COST-HIGH situations at open sea. A vessel vector space is defined and therewith a cost model is put forward to evaluate the cost of collision-avoidance actions. Negotiations between a give-way vessel and a stand-on vessel and between two give-way vessels are considered respectively to reach overall low cost agreements. With the framework proposed in this paper, two vessels involved in a COLREGS-COST-HIGH situation can negotiate with each other to get a more economic overall plan of collision avoidance than that suggested by the traditional collision-avoidance expert systems.

Based on tole investigation on mariner’s behaviors in collision avoidance, actuality of collision avoidance at sea and the research on the uncertainty of collision avoidance behaviors adopted by two encounter vessels, and for the purpose to reduce the no-coordination action of collision avoidance between two encounter vessels, and on the base of different encounter situation in international convention for preventing collisions at sea, the concept of action situation between tee encounter vessels is proposed, and the directions for every encounter vessel to adopt course alteration to avoid collision are explained in different action situation. The mechanism of avoidance and reduction of no-coordination is established in intelligent collision avoidance system, and it is important id research on intelligent collision avoidance system.

In recent years, shipping at the sea has been rapidly grown in marine nations and vessel's collisions are increasing as well. The collision avoidance is one of issues maritime safety. To reduce vessels' collisions, the fuzzy inference system is one of popular algorithms for collision avoidance. In this paper we aim to implement Matlab. Fuzzy logic toolbox software for collision avoidance algorithm. For this we used an original Matlab fuzzy logic toolbox and customized the toolbox for the collision avoidance algorithm.

Korea Maritime Safety Tribunal (KMST) statistics released in of 2019 indicated that most collision accidents involving small-size vessels with less than 20 gross-tonnage occur mainly due to operational carelessness, such as forward-looking negligence and unskilled vessel control. As an effective remedy, training and education for vessel operators are being strengthened to prevent accidents. However, collision accidents are increasing, and technical measures are continuously developed to reduce accidents caused by human factors. In this study, an avoidance algorithm and prototype of terminal-controller against collision between two nearby vessels was developed for implementation on relative navigation control by adopting WAVE telecommunication technology. Moreover, several sea trial tests were performed to verify the collision avoidance algorithm and control system using two fishing vessels for dif erent scenarios.

In the 21st century, the rapid development of automation and artificial intelligence technologies is driving innovative changes in various industrial sectors. In the transportation industry, this is evident with the commercialization of autonomous vehicles. Moreover research into autonomous navigation technologies is actively underway in the aviation and maritime sectors. Consequently, for the practical implementation of autonomous ships, an effective collision avoidance algorithm has become a crucial element. Therefore, this study proposes a collision avoidance algorithm based on the Obstacle Zone by Target(OZT), which visually represents areas with a high likelihood of collisions with other ships or obstacles. The A-star algorithm was utilized to represent obstacles on a grid and assess collision risks. Subsequently, a collision avoidance algorithm was developed that performs fuzzy control based on calculated waypoints, allowing the vessel to return to its original course after avoiding the collision. Finally, the validity of the proposed algorithm was verified through collision avoidance simulations in various encounter scenarios.

Author presented some study with a title of "automatic control for ship collision avoidance system" in previous papers. The paper reported the tread of the study, un-sloved issues and outcome of the study. In this paper, some additional results will be reported. The first is the algorithm of avoidance of group ship that is one of the un-sloved issues. The algorithm is useful when a ship takes an avoiding action toward group fish boats and approaching group merchant vessel. The second is unified model for calculating ship collision risk. The collision risk changes with various meet type of ships. Therefor newly-developed model is suggested to take into account of these situations. Finally simulation is carried out to verify suggested algorithm and model in various ship encounter situations..
The collisions of vessel at sea show high among the whole marine accidents. Especially, the accidents of fishing vessels take the largest portion of the collisions. Therefore, a technique to reduce these accidents should be developed. The automatic control for avoiding collision suggested in this study consists of two steps. The first is recognizing collision risk with fuzzy Theory and the other is maneuvering the model ship on the basis of collision risk calculated from the first step. The information form the position and estimated time of collision point(DCPA and TCPA) is used to assess the collision risk. To verify this system, a fishing vessel was simulated according to MMG mathematical model. The simulations result shows quite good application in avoiding the collision of ship.

The purpose of this paper is to establish development concepts for a novel collision avoidance system with preventing function of navigator's human error (Hu-CAS) in ship control behaviors. Hu-CAS consists of four modules: 1) collision risk assessment module to estimate collision priority between the ship and objects, 2) decision-making module to decide collision risk levels, 3) parameter estimation module needed in the ship control to avoid collisions and 4) control system to control the rudder angle and speed. Hu-CAS, proposed in this paper, can provide a novel system substitution current Autopilot and/or a CAS be teen manned vessel and Autonomous ship in a future.

For the safety and cost reduction in the navigation, the automatic and intelligent system has been developed for the vessel, and the most important factor in the system is to decide the collision risk exactly. In this paper, we propose an advanced collision risk decision system for collision avoidance of the system. The conventional researches using DCPA and TCPA for calculating the collision risk have a problem to produce a same collision risk regardless of bearings for the ships, if they are located in the same distance from own ship. To solve this problem, in addition to DCPA and TCPA, we introduce the factor of VCD(variation of compass degree) and constant, CR which derived from COLREG'72(International Regulation for Preventing Collision at Sea, 1972) for evaluating the collision risk including even the burden of own ship navigator due to the encountering angle of each vessels. We decided the collision risk legally by the rule considering the relative situation of vessels. And therefore, the proposed system has two advantages, of which one is to produce more detail collision risk and another is to reflect the real underway situation in conformity with the rule.
To assess the possible collision risk between Mokpo Harbour Bridge, which is under construction, and passing vessels, we proposed Real-Time Bridge-Vessel Collision Model (RT-BVCM) in this paper. The mathematical model of RT-BVCM consists of the causation probability by the vessel aberrancy due to navigation environments, the geometric probability by the structural feature of a bridge relative to a ship size and, the failure probability by the ship collision track and the stopping distance which is not to come to a stop before hitting the obstacles. Then, the probabilistic mathematical model represented as risk index with the risk level from 1 to 5. The merit of the proposed model to the collision model proposed by AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) is that it can provide enough time to take adequate collision avoiding action. Through the simulation tests to the two kinds of test ships, 3,000 GT and 10,000 GT, it is cleary found that the proposed model can be used as a collision evaluation model to the passing vessel and Mokpo Harbour Bridge.
