  • The sediment resuspension and diffusion model is an integral part of a sediment transport and morphologic change model. We examined a vertical one-dimensional sediment resuspension and diffusion model using field data collected at about 10-m depth off the Saemangeun $4^{th}$ dike. The field data include waves, currents and suspended sediment concentration near the bed for about a day in May, 2007. The suspended sediment concentration obtained from the 1D model overestimated the observation about two orders of magnitude with single grain size and multiple grain sizes. The incorporation of the bed armoring effect, which adjusts the amount of suspended sediment with the available bed sediment, improved the agreement between the model and observation within a factor of two.

  • The two-stage numerical model was used to study the relation between three-dimensional local wind model, advection/diffusion model of random walk method and second moment method on Pusan coastal area. The first stage is three dimensional time-dependent local wind model which gives the wind field and vertical dirrusion coefficient. The second stage is advection/diffusion model which uses the results of the first stage as input data. First, wind fields on Pusan coastal area for none synoptic scale wind showed typical land and sea breeze circulation, and convergence zone occured at 1200LST in northern of domain, in succession, moved northward of domain. Emissions from Sinpyeong industrial district were trasnported toward the inland by sea breeze during daytime, and reached the end part of domain about 1800LST. During nighttime, emissions return to sea by land breeze and vertical diffusion also contributes to upward transport. In order to use this model for forecast of air pollution concentration on the Pusan coastal area, it is necessary that computed value must be compared with measured value and wind fields model must also be dealt in detail.

  • This paper describes the result of carbody and vibration test for freight car. The purpose of the test is to evaluate an safety which carbody structure shall be considered fully sufficient rigidity so as to load a freight car under maximum load and operating condition on line track. The test carbody is constructed by RS korea co., LTD. in accordance with KNR specfication. The test cases of the carbody is tested the vertical load and compressive load to verify the strength and stillness. The vibration test is tested for analysis and evaluation of vibration, to allow for the fact that mechanical vibration in railway vehicles have specific characteristics.

  • To investigate the distribution of air pollutants dispersion in the horizontal wind fields, a chaff release experiment was carried out by an airplane. The temporal and spatial variations of a chaff plume from an elevated point source using the WSR-88D(NEXRAD) radar. The observed profiles of radar reflectivity were compared with the Gaussian diffusion model at slightly unstable atmospheric condition. The present study shows that the distributions of radar reflectivity from chaffs and their concentration by the model are in general agreement with time variation. The dispersion coefficients in downwind($\sigma$(sub)x) and crosswind($\sigma$(sub)y) spread data exceeded what has generally been found at Pasquill and Brigg\`s estimates. As a result, it was clearly shown that horizontal and vertical diffusion coefficients are more accurately determined as compared with theoretical coefficients. At longer diffusion distances(than 10km), a radar observation provided the determination of maximum range and diffusion height more qualitatively, too.

  • Previous researchers have studied how to reduce a pumping power in order to save energy in the fluid transporting system. Especially, it has been studied a lot about reducing the pressure drop among parameters related to the energy saving for fluid transport. This study is to investigate the effect of a substantial drag reduction caused by the polymer(A611P, A601P) when the working fluids flow to the vertical and horizontal direction in the vertical cylindrical equipment of closed flow system. In this experiment, we mount a visualization equipment on the test section and take pictures. With using the PIV system, instrument and analyzing the movement of bubble for different polymer concentration are observed and some mechanism of the drag reduction effect is clarified.

  • A numerical study for the flow, heat and mass transfer characteristics of the evaporating tube with the films flowing down on both the inside and outside tube walls has been carried out. The condensation occurs along the outside wall while the evaporation occurs at the free surface of the inside film. The transport equations for momentum and energy are parabolized by the boundary-layer approximation and solved by using the marching technique. The calculation domain of 2 film flow regions (evaporating and condensation films at the inside and outside tube wall respectively) and tube wall is solved simultaneously. The coupling technique for the problem with the 3 different regions and the 2 interfaces of them has been developed to calculate the temperature field. The velocity and temperature fields and the amount of the condensed and evaporated mass as well as the position where the evaporating film is completely dried out are successfully predicted for various inside pressures and inside film inlet flow rates.

  • The demand of bike increases eco-friendly as the mean of transportation but domestic production basis becomes sluggish. In this study, the design analysis of horizontal and vertical frame is performed on the model which is proposed as the bike of new concept in conjunction with public transport system. As the result, the structural analysis is conducted on the main frame of urban bike used with cast magnesium alloy. As the vertical load of 150 kg is applied, the design technology insures that maximum stress less than 70 MPa is obtained.

  • Vertical canned pumps are usually applied in the power plant to transport fluids that the available suction pressure is low at the condensate system and the circulating-water system. The top of the motor driver is 5.5m above the base and the barrel and drop column extend even further below the ground. While this size and configuration may produce an efficient pumping system, it also introduces several dynamic problems which must be considered in order to obtain a reliable operation. The main problem is that the vibrational mode of the long flexible cantilever structure above the ground exist near the operational characteristics of the condensate debris system. This system's trouble has been showed at 2,086 hp condensate water loading pumps in a nuclear power plant.

  • Integrated WiMAX and WiFi networks is of great potential for the future due to the wider coverage of WiMAX and the high data transport capacity of WiFi. However, seamless and secure handover (HO) is one of the most challenging issues in this field. In this paper, we present a novel vertical HO authentication scheme with privacy preserving for WiMAX-WiFi heterogeneous networks. Our scheme uses ticket-based and pseudonym-based cryptographic methods to secure HO process and to achieve high efficiency. The formal verification by the AVISPA tool shows that the proposed scheme is secure against various malicious attacks and the simulation result indicates that it outperforms the existing schemes in terms of communication and computation cost.

  • The STEM II(Sulfur Transport Eulerian Model II) was adapted to simulate transport/ chemistry/deposition of air Pollutants in the Eastern China and Korea. A 32 hour model simulation starting from 9 A.M. of 1989 November 25 during which no preciptation was observed. The Prevailing wind direction is from west to east. The MM4(Meteorological Model Version 4) was used to generate meteorological data such as temperatures, horizontal wind velocities and directions, humidities, air densities. Eddy diffusivities, dry deposition velocities and vertical wind velocities were calculated from the meteorological data. The initial condition and the emission data base were constructed from the measurements and governmental reports respectively. The model predictions of NO, NO$_2$, SO$_2$, $O_3$ at Seoul, Inchon and Pusan agree reasonably well with measurements. The model's predictability for the primary air pollutants is improved considerably as the time passes. Thus, it is concluded that the model's predictability can be significantly enhanced by reducing the uncertainties of initial conditions.
