  • The boron transport model has been implemented into the CUPID code to simulate the boron transport phenomena of the PWR. The boron concentration conservation was confirmed through a simulation of a conceptual boron transport problem in which water with a constant inlet boron concentration injected into an inlet of the 2-dimensional vertical flow tube. The step wise boron transport problem showed that the numerical diffusion of the boron concentration can be reduced by the second order convection scheme. In order to assess the adaptability of the developed boron transport model to the realistic situation, the ROCOM test was simulated by using the CUPID implemented with the boron transportation.

Computation of a Turbulent Natural Convection in a Rectangular Cavity with the Low-Reynolds-Number Differential Stress and Flux Model

  • A numerical study of a natural convection in a rectangular cavity with the low-Reynolds-number differential stress and flux model is presented. The primary emphasis of the study is placed on the investigation of the accuracy and numerical stability of the low-Reynolds-number differential stress and flux model for a natural convection problem. The turbulence model considered in the study is that developed by Peeters and Henkes (1992) and further refined by Dol and Hanjalic (2001), and this model is applied to the prediction of a natural convection in a rectangular cavity together with the two-layer model, the shear stress transport model and the time-scale bound ν$^2$- f model, all with an algebraic heat flux model. The computed results are compared with the experimental data commonly used for the validation of the turbulence models. It is shown that the low-Reynolds-number differential stress and flux model predicts well the mean velocity and temperature, the vertical velocity fluctuation, the Reynolds shear stress, the horizontal turbulent heat flux, the local Nusselt number and the wall shear stress, but slightly under-predicts the vertical turbulent heat flux. The performance of the ν$^2$- f model is comparable to that of the low-Reynolds-number differential stress and flux model except for the over-prediction of the horizontal turbulent heat flux. The two-layer model predicts poorly the mean vertical velocity component and under-predicts the wall shear stress and the local Nusselt number. The shear stress transport model predicts well the mean velocity, but the general performance of the shear stress transport model is nearly the same as that of the two-layer model, under-predicting the local Nusselt number and the turbulent quantities.

  • As the size of semiconductor devices shrinks in the horizontal as well as vertical dimension it is difficult to estimate the transport-velocity of electron because they drift in non-equilibrium with a few scattering. In this paper HYbrid Monte Carlo simulator which employs the drift-diffusion model for hole-transport and Monte Carlo model for electron-transport in order to reduce the simulation time and increase the accuracy as well has been developed and applied to analyze the electron-transport in InAlAs/InGaAs HBT which is attractive for an ultra high speed active device in high speed optical fiber transmission systems in terms of the velocity and energy distribution as well as cutoff frequency.

Long-range Transport Mechanisms of Asian Dust associated with the Synoptic Weather System

  • The long-range transport mechanisms of Asian dust were analyzed based on the synoptic weather system and numerical simulation by using NCEP/NCAR reanalysis and TOMS data during the periods of 1996-2001. We classified the whole weather types of eastern Asia during spring and created the representative weather types during the yellow sand events using cluster analysis and weather charts for the last 6 years(1996~2001). These long-range transport mechanisms were related to various pressure patterns including high and low, trough and ridge, and upper-level fronts. Case studies of the yellow sand events have performed by the simulation of MM5 with meteorological elements such as the horizontal wind of u and v component, potential temperature, potential vorticity, and vertical circulation during the episodic days(2~8 March 2001). In addition, the origin of the long-range transport was examined with the estimation of backward trajectory using HYSPLIT4 Model. In this paper, we concluded that three weather types at 1000 hPa, 850 hPa, 500 hPa, and 300 hPa levels were classified respectively. The dominant features were the extending continental outflow from China to Korea at 1000 hPa and 850 hPa levels, the deep trough passage and cold advection at 500 hPa and 300 hPa levels during the yellow sand events. And also, we confirmed the existence of pola $r_tropical jets in the upper-level, the behavior of potential vorticity over Korea, the estimation of potential vorticity through vertical cross section, and the transport of yellow sand through backward trajectories.es.

퇴적토 배출을 수반한 연직수문의 수리특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study for the Hydraulic Characteristics of Vertical lift Gates with Sediment Transport)

  • 하단배출 형태의 연직수문에서의 퇴적토사 이동을 수반한 유량계수, 수력도약 높이, 수력도약 길이의 수리특성을 분석하기 위해 수리 모형실험과 차원해석을 수행하였다. Froude 수와 수리특성의 상관관계를 퇴적토 이동 유무에 따라 도식화하고, 무차원 매개변수와 수리특성의 상관성을 분석하고 다중회귀분석식을 개발하였다. 퇴사의 이동을 수반한 수리특성은 퇴적토의 이동이 없을 경우와는 다른 양상을 확인하여 퇴적토 이동을 특성을 나타낼 수 있는 변수의 도입이 필요함을 확인하였다. 유량계수, 수력도약 높이와 수력도약 길이에 대한 각 다중회귀분석식의 결정계수는 유량계수 0.749, 수력도약 높이 0.896, 수력도약 길이 0.955로 높게 나타났다. 개발한 수리특성식의 적용성을 평가하기 위해 실제 측정값과 회귀분석식에 의해 계산된 값의 95%의 예측구간 분석을 수행하였고, 유량계수, 수력도약 높이와 길이에 대한 예측의 정확도 분석차원의 NSE (Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency), RMSE (root mean square)와 MAPE (mean absolute percentage error)는 적절한 것으로 판단되었다.

의류소재용 직·편물의 수분이동 특성 측정 방법에 따른 흡한속건성 평가 (Assessment of Wicking and Fast Dry Properties According to Moisture Transport Measurement Method of Knit and Woven Fabrics for Garment)

  • 본 연구에서는 직/편물 8종을 대상으로 이들 수직방향과 수평방향 수분이동특성 측정방법에 따른 소재들의 수분이동 특성을 분석하였다. 또한, 8종의 시편의 MMT에 의한 건조특성을 수직 건조 측정 결과와 비교하여 논의하였다. 수평수분이동 방법인 MMT 시험 결과는 수직법인 바이렉 방법의 결과와 유사한 거동을 나타내었다. 대나무, 린넨 및 면/나일론 복합 소재는 드롭법의 흡수시간은 짧았으며, 표면의 낮은 접촉각 및 직물의 높은 다공성에 기인한 것으로 판단되며, 친수성 스테이플 섬유의 구조와 상관이 있을 것으로 보인다. MMT에 의한 건조특성은 니트 및 대나무 직물의 최대 흡수반경이 가장 우수했으며, 수식 건조법에 비해 차이를 나타내었다. MMT 방법의 건조속도는 직물의 두께와 포화수분 흡수율과 높은 상관성을 가졌으며, 회귀계수는 각각 0.9와 0.88이었다. 이는 직물의 두께가 얇을수록 위킹 및 건조특성이 우수하며, 기능성 소재기획시 착용 내구성을 판단하는데 중요함을 의미한다. 또한 상이한 섬유소재, 실 및 구조의 소재에 대한 수분이동특성(위킹, 건조)는 측정 방법에 따라 다른 결과를 나타내었다.

Transport Velocity of Perilla Grain on Oscillating Sieve in Elliptical Motion

  • Purpose: The objective of this study was to propose a formula for the theoretical grain mean transport velocities of an elliptically moving oscillator by modifying the grain mean transport velocity formula applied to linear motion and to compare the calculated values with the experimental values of grain mean transport velocity. Methods: The values of the throwing index ($K_v$) and the maximum horizontal velocities for various positions on the elliptical oscillator were obtained using kinematic analysis. To obtain the actual grain transport velocity, the mean transport velocities of perilla grains at six positions on the sieve surface were measured using a high-speed camera and compared with the theoretical values. The cam with an eccentric bearing on the oscillator was designed to be eccentric by 1.6 cm so that the lengths of the major axis of the elliptical motion were 3.2-3.6 cm. The material used in the experiments was perilla grain. Results: The experimental result was consistent with the theoretical value calculated using the proposed formula ($R^2$ is 0.80). It is considered that the angle difference between the maximum accelerations in the directions vertical and horizontal to the sieve has as much influence on the grain mean transport velocity as the value of Kv itself. Conclusions: It was possible to theoretically obtain the grain mean transport velocities through a screening device in elliptical motion by modifying the formula of the grain mean transport velocities used in linear motion.

스터브를 이용한 소형화된 분기선로 발룬 (Stubbed Branch-Line Compact Balun)

  • 본 논문에서는 스터브(stub) 선로를 이용한 새로운 방식의 분기 선로(branch line) 발룬 구조를 제안한다. 수직 브랜치에 스터브 선로를 부착하여 발룬의 출력 신호에서 불필요한 우모드 출력을 제거하고 180도 위상차를 가지는 출력 신호만 산출되도록 하였다. 또한 스터브 선로를 사용함으로서 해당 브랜치 선로의 길이를 스터브 길이의 2배만큼 줄일 수 있기 때문에 소형화된 발룬 설계에도 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.

The origin and seasonal characteristics of tropospheric ozone observed over Pohang, Korea

  • In this study, we present the analysis of vertical ozone sounding data observed over Pohang, Korea, and investigate to understand the governing mechanisms for seasonal ozone maximum in June. The vertical ozone profiles in June show that the ozone enhancement is clearly shown in the middle and upper troposphere. We have found that the June maximum is associated with the transport of ozone rich air from the stratosphere and polluted continental air mass. This is different from the previous studies shown that the regionally polluted continental air mass, influenced by the intense anthropogenic activities m northeast Asia during transport, is responsible for the ozone maximum in spring.
