In offshore environment, an accurate estimation of a wave-structure interaction has been an important issue for safe and cost effective design of fixed and floating offshore structures exposed to a harsh environment. In this study, a wave-structure interaction around a circular column was investigated with regular waves. To simulate 3D two-phase flow, open source computational fluid dynamics libraries, called OpenFOAM, were used. Wave generation and absorption in the wave tank were activated by the relaxation method, which implemented in a source term. To validate the numerical methods, generated Stokes 2nd-order wave profiles were compared with the analytic solution with deep water condition. From the validation test, grid longitudinal and vertical sizes for wave length and amplitude were selected. The simulated wave run-up and wave loads on the circular column were studied and compared with existing experimental data.
A laterally averaged 2-dimensional hydrodynamic model is newly developed. The coordinate system is first transformed to minimize the effects of irregularity of bottom and surface. The advection terms of the governing equations are then discretized by an upwind scheme. By employing an explicit scheme for longitudinal direction and an implicit scheme for vertical direction, the model is free from restriction of temporal step size caused by a relatively small grid ratio. To demonstrate the applicability of the model, calculated time histories of free surface displacements and distributions of velocity and salinity are compared with the field measurements of the Keum River Estuary before construction of the estuary dam. A reasonable agreement is observed between them.
The design of reactor internals requires the accurate vibration characteristics of each component for subsequent dynamic structural response analysis. For Korean standard nuclear power plant some modifications on the Control Element Assembly shroud from the reference design have been made. Since the shroud is complex in geometry having an array of vertical round tubes and webs in a square grid pattern, and being tied down by preloaded tie rods into position, it is planned to perform a vibration measurement program consisting of both experimental and analytical modal studies upon that component. To determine the proper test conditions, the pre-test analysis has been performed using the general purpose structural analysis program ANSYS. Also the effects of the number of master degrees of freedom, holes in the web and tie-rod preload on the natural frequencies are examined prior to the pre-test analysis. After decision of appropriate finite element model, frequency analysis and harmonic analysis are performed and ideas for the test conditions such as the number of measurement points, their locations, measurement frequency range and the excitation force level are determined.

This study investigates the structure and operation of the ITER VS converter and proposes a sequence control method for six series-connected VS converters to reduce reactive power. The operation and the proposed sequence control method are verified through RTDS simulation. The ITER VS converter must supply voltage/current to the superconducting magnets for plasma current vertical stabilization, and the four-quadrant operation must proceed without a zero-current discontinuous section. The operation mode of the VS converter is separated into a 12- and 6-pulse circulating current and transition modes according to the size of the load current. The output voltage of the unit VS converter is limited because of the rated voltage; however, the superconducting coil must increase the operating output voltage. Thus, the VS converter must be connected in a 6-series to provide the required operating output voltage. The output voltage of the VS converters is controlled continuously; however, reactive power is limited within a minimized value of the grid. In this study, the unit converter is compared with converters connected in a 6-series to determine a suitable sequence control method. The output voltage is the same in all cases, but the maximum reactive power is reduced from 100% to 73%. This sequence control method is verified through RTDS simulation.
In this paper, we suggest a method to acquire the moving object centered video by panning and tilting a camera automatically according to motion vectors calculated by detecting the motion of a moving object on video steam. We create a difference image by estimating the intensity difference at the grid points of neighboring frames. And we detect the motion using both horizontal projection histogram and vertical projection histogram and decide the center of motion part. Then we calculate a new direction and degree of the motion by comparing coordinates at the center of current motion and the center of previous motion. By controling the RCM using these Motion vectors, we can get video stream positioned unwire object on the center of video frame. Through the experiments, we could get a moving object centered video stream continuously arid monitor remotely by implementing sever/client architecture based on the web.
The East African ionosphere (3°S-18°N, 32°E-50°E) was mapped using Total Electron Content (TEC) measurements from ground-based GPS receivers situated at Asmara, Mekelle, Bahir Dar, Robe, Arbaminch, and Nairobi. Assuming a thin shell ionosphere at 350 km altitude, we project the Ionospheric Pierce Point (IPP) of a slant TEC measurement with an elevation angle of >10° to its corresponding location on the map. We then infer the estimated values at any point of interest from the vertical TEC values at the projected locations by means of interpolation. The total number of projected IPPs is in the range of 24-66 at any one time. Since the distribution of the projected IPPs is irregularly spaced, we have used an inverse distance weighted interpolation method to obtain a spatial grid resolution of 1°×1° latitude and longitude, respectively. The TEC maps were generated for the year 2008, with a 2 hr temporal resolution. We note that TEC varies diurnally, with a peak in the late afternoon (at 1700 LT), due to the equatorial ionospheric anomaly. We have observed higher TEC values at low latitudes in both hemispheres compared to the magnetic equatorial region, capturing the ionospheric distribution of the equatorial anomaly. We have also confirmed the equatorial seasonal variation in the ionosphere, characterized by minimum TEC values during the solstices and maximum values during the equinoxes. We evaluate the reliability of the map, demonstrating a mean error (difference between the measured and interpolated values) range of 0.04-0.2 TECU (Total Electron Content Unit). As more measured TEC values become available in this region, the TEC map will be more reliable, thereby allowing us to study in detail the equatorial ionosphere of the African sector, where ionospheric measurements are currently very few.
In order to improve the vertical position accuracy, the advantages of GPS and barometric altimeter are combined and used, but in order to fuse the two sensors, the geoid altitude must be compensated. In this paper, we proposed a technique that can calculate geoid altitude in real time even in low-cost embedded systems applied to drones or autonomous vehicles. Since the reference EGM08 is determined by a polynomial of the 2160th order, real-time calculation is impossible in the embedded system. Therefore, by introducing a linear interpolation technique, the amount of calculation was increased, and the storage space was saved by 75% by using the integer geoid height as a grid point. The accuracy of the proposed technique was evaluated through simulation, and it was confirmed that the accuracy of the maximum error is -1.215 m even in the region where the geoid change is rapid.
Purpose: In this study, we evaluate the annual energy performance of the detached house which was designed with the aim of zero energy. Method: The experimental house which was constructed in Gonju Chungnam in 2013, is the single family detached house of light weight wood frame with $100m^2$ of heating area. Thermal transmittance of roof (by ISO 10211) and building external walls are designed as $0.10W/m^2K$ and $0.14W/m^2$ respectively and low-e coating vacuum window glazing with PVC frame was installed. Also grid connected PV system and natural-circulation solar water heater was applied and 6kWp capacity of photovoltaic module was installed in pitched roof and $5m^2$ of solar collector in vertical wall facing the south. We analyzed the 2014 annual data of the detached house in which residents were actually living, measured though web-based remote monitoring system. Result: First, as a result, total annual energy consumption and energy production (PV generation and solar hot water) are 7,919kWh and 7,689kWh respectively and the rate of energy independence is 97.1% which is almost close to the zero energy. Second, plug load and hot water of energy consumption by category showed the highest numbers each with 33% and 31%, with following space heating 24%, electric cooker 8%, lighting 3% in order. Hot water supply is relatively higher than space heating because high insulation makes it decreased.

In this paper, we propose a method based on multimodal biometrics system using the face and signature under ubiquitous computing environments. First, the face and signature images are obtained by PDA and then these images with user ID and name are transmitted via WLAN(Wireless LAN) to the server and finally the PDA receives verification result from the server. The multimodal biometrics recognition system consists of two parts. In client part located in PDA, user interface program executes the user registration and verification process. The server consisting of the PCA and LDA algorithm shows excellent face recognition performance and the signature recognition method based on the Kernel PCA and LDA algorithm for signature image projected to vertical and horizontal axes by grid partition method. The proposed algorithm is evaluated with several face and signature images and shows better recognition and verification results than previous unimodal biometrics recognition techniques.

A three-dimensional, finite difference, numerical model with free surface was developed on ${\sigma}$-coordinate. A semi-implicit numerical scheme in time has been adopted for computational efficiency. The scheme is essentially independent of the stringent stability criteria (CFL condition) for explicit schemes of external surface gravity wave. Implicit algorithm was applied for vertical shear stress, Coriolis force and pressure gradient terms. The reliability of the model with vertically variable grid system was checked by the comparison of simulation results with analytic solution of wind-driven currents in a one-dimensional channel. Sensitivity analysis of differencing parameters was carried out by applying the model to the calculation of wind-driven currents in a square lake.
