This landscape design proposal was presented to a design competition for the KangWon Province Police Agency(KPA). The site, about 27,711 $m^2$, is located at 293-4 Udu-dong, Chunchun, KangWon-Do. Design objectives of the KPA were to build a symbolic place which fall community members with pride, to elevate an identity and status of the KPA by creating a landscape correspondent to the concept of the building design, to provide community residents with a space to enjoy cultural and social activities, and to make environment friendly space. The main concept was developed by one of characteristics of the traditional spatial structure of Korea known as an, 'Open and Closed spatial structure.'By re-interpreting the traditional spatial structure and applying it to the site, the design met the various desires of the KPA. The site is primarily segmented into 6 sub spaces; entrance space Podori plaza, symbolic court, police billeting area, sports area, and rear rest area. The entrance space, Podori plaza, and symbolic court on the south-west part of the site represent the publicity of the site as the concept of ″open space.″ On the contrary, considering the specialty of police affairs, the north-east part of the site, which contains the police billeting area and rest area, were designed to maintain security by using the concept of ″closed space.″ To express an identity of the KPA, 'Podori', a police mascot, the plaza was designed and is suppose to function as the hub of the community. In the front section of the plaza, a symmetrical planting pattern, centering the strong axis, was introduced to strengthen its symbolic meaning. Traditional window frames such as the pattern of 'Pisal-jige'and 'Umulsal-jige' were used for the paving system which is applied as the environment friendly design. Site facilities and furnitrue were placed at every important spot in order to connect various spaces organically. As these well-tied spaces properly shared their function, spatial sequence and management would be promoted. The entire space was designed to allow free access of handicapped people. This proposal is meant to create a new image of KangWon province and to enhance the way of inhabitants' think about their community.
This study is focused on a relic of "Baek-Jae Muryong Roayl Tomb", as an inheritance, and craft work of a modern accessories Art. Based on a conceptual design and component of relic ceramic accessories from "Baek-Jae Muryong Roayl Tomb" is one of our cultural heritages, a creative work is to present a several kinds of applicable ceramic accessories in our real life. In conclusion, a property matter of soil and diversity of visual presentation that is corresponding to recognizable design particular idea.
It is generally regarded a design system in post-industrial society, which products designed by in-house designers or design consultancy are manufactured in factory and distributed in market for the consumer. Although it is treated an old design system in traditional society, the traces of vernacular design has been remaining in the state of adopted to the periodical needs in these days, also proving the attribute of design culture to constitute human's material environment as well as existing design systems. There were discovered various design artifacts in daily surroundings vary from the established design in several manners, user modifications or manufactures in everyday lives formalized them. It was approached a case study that analyze the changes of artifact configuration and designer/user context and creation process of the non-professional design artifacts, Creativity Template Theory and ACM(Artifact Context Model) have been utilized for the analysis model. From the analysis result, It assume that the everyday artifacts may be ordinary but extra-ordinary including particular ideas and identity represented by everyday designers or users. Beside these characteristics induce the potentiality that reflect on creative motives for the designers or a complementary artifact generator filling up with drawbacks in established design system. The everyday design domain, various explorations and alternatives are made, is seems to be another design practice domain dissimilar to the one in the industry-based design. Moreover it provides an more easily accessability for the approaching user-friendly design, user customization because they conduct the reliable modeling of consumer and end-user. Finally, based on the exploratory study regarding interpretation of context and configuration in the everyday artifacts, new approach for the design process and design education through more detailed cognitive modeling of everyday designers will be a further study.
The paper aims to identify major research issues and basic framework of computer supported collaborative work in design through reviewing recent changes in product development which is getting more integrated, collaborative and computerized. At first the importance of collaborative work in design is discussed throughout the development of design process: from blackbox approach in vernacular design to recent Nigel Cross' es Hybrid model. Then Concurrent Engineering and Quality Function Depolyment are reviewed for showing recent phenomena of integration and collaboration in the process of product development. Computer-aided product development is demonstrated with the case of Blackboard system and Computergenerated form development. In order to outline the fundamental approach for computer-supported collaborative work in design, structures and processes of some related projects are introduced. Finally, based on the findings, some research issues for further rJevelopment are proposed.

The goal of this study is to identify the new Architectural type of house and Landscape design pattern of the collective housing area in American garden city, Midlothian near Richmond of Virginia. I had been surveyed old houses of the Virginia and new single family houses and landscape design style of Mariners village to find a different style of houses and lots. The Richmond, capital city of Virginia, is surrounded by five suburban areas and counties. One of them is the Chesterfield where it has main street of Midlothian garden city. The city of Midlothian has a function of residence area both to stay in the forest garden and to go to downtown office of Richmond. There are a lot of collective housing area out of the capital city. I surveyed house form, lots, and site design pattern of the Mariners village in Midlothian. The community of Mariners shows a particular characteristics and harmonious pattern of suburban residence area in a view point of new project. There are three results of this study as follows: First, the types of house in suburban garden city, Midlothian, are focused on vernacular Colonial style with country house, traditional house, and front gable house form which are an unique new American single home. Second, the landscape design of this collective housing area, the Mariners village, has a unity view of residence community, harmony between house and lots, and a sensitive cul-de-sac pattern and loops type with rational land using based on the forest topology. Third, the Mariners village shows that the design concept of landscape architecture has to consider of traditionalism, naturalism, and living condition of residents.
With environmental problems and pollutions accumulated by continuous towns or cities developments events, it is becoming necessary to develop in consideration of environmental effects. This consensus leads to prepare a plan system and instrument for ecological city development, which can be a series of planning indicators. To develope a series of process for environmental friendly development, this study has three main goals as follows; development of policies and programs for environmental friendly development, suggestion of environmental friendly urban design models and standards, development of planning indicators and design guidelines Korean land use plan is operated by both zoning system and detailed plan system. But the available kinds of zoning type are too limited to apply to various and vernacular places. In addition to, the detailed plan is understood to be another regulation which constricts the freedom of building right. In this study, Plan System of Environmentally Friendly Space was studied for domestic affairs In German, Plan System of Environmentally Friendly Space is the field have been progressed before. so In this study, example of German was researched intensively, and Plan System of Environmentally Friendly Space was developed, applicable for the real state in domestic. This study was focused on methodology of landscape planning and planning for afforestation. Landscape planning is performed on condition detail investigation of existent state of nature and local characteristic, and Investigation of Planning for afforestation is more detailed than that of Landscape planning. In the basis of methodology of landscape planning and planning for afforestation, Plan for Environmentally Friendly Urban Habitation Model was developed. Plan for Environmentally Friendly Urban Habitation Model was applicable for state of land use planning. Site was selected Chuk-chun in city yang-in, taking the circumstances into consideration. So landscape planning correspond to land use planning was made out. Adjustment of Land use planning and Landscape planning was very important. This study aims at interpreting Korean Rural Landscape by applying the analytical tool thus developed to the lifestyles of ordinary people found in their permanent dwellings both before and after Korea first opened its door to the world in 1896. By so doing, this study hopes to contribute to building a framework with which to understand the tradition of ordinary people by exploring the uniqueness and basic characteristics of Korean Rural Landscape. This study relies primarily on field studies and publications including, without limitation, the televised documentaries, as well as newspapers and scholastic writings and relating to, the agrarian and residential landscapes changed over time. In the Vernacular world, the present does not passively inherit the past. Rather, it is re-born each time, reflecting the society and history of the period. It does not change, but is shaped by the necessities of the period. This may be the reason why there are different Korean Rural Landscapes over a rather short period of time. For instance, the pre-modern Korean Rural Landscape tends to be shaped almost entirely by the nature, while the intention of people begins to find much more expressions in the modern Korean Rural Landscape. As the commodities become more readily available to people thanks to industrialization, such ready availability has brought about changes in the materials used in, as well as functions of, Rural Landscape.
The purpose of this study was to (md out the characteristics of the residential house in Ulleung Island in terms of building materials, structure and construction method, structural design by actual field surveys. This study found several facts; First, the house was classified into the log house and mud-wall house according to building material for wall structure. The log house prevailed in the early days of the settlement in the island because of affulent timber materials available around. However, the mud wall house became a popular type in later days because of the depletion of timber materials. Second, the Udeki wall was an unique installation reflecting the severe climate conditions of Ulleung Island. However, many aspects of the Udeki wall was changed according to the change of living style and the introduction of modem heating systems in terms of its function, size, building material, layout position etc. Third, the roofing material also has been changed from materials available locally to slate materials transported from the mainland. Fourth, the bamboo slender-ribbed door as a single-swing door type was popular and later time the single-sliding door or three ribbed door was widely used in rooms installed later instead. Fifth, the roof was placed over the room, kitchen, and Chukdam (outer wall) and this was a resonable way to cope with heavy snowfalls in the winter season in Ulleung Island.
