  • Pulse electrochemical polishing process has been used to improve mechanical properties such as surface roughness and corrosion resistance on conductive metallic materials. In addition, pulse electrochemical polishing process with various frequency may produce a lustrous, smoother, deburred and cleaned surface on workpiece. The aim of this paper is to study surface characteristics of pulse electrochemical polishing for various frequency conditions using AFM to verify localized surface variation in nanometer scale.

  • The application of focused ion beam (FIB) technology in micro/nano machining has become increasingly popular. Its use in micro/nano machining has advantages over contemporary photolithography or other micro/nano machining technologies such as small feature resolution, the ability to process without masks and being accommodating for a variety of materials and geometries. This paper was carried out some experiments and verifications of mechanism on FIB-CVD using SMI8800 made by Seiko. FIB-CVD has in fact proved to be commercially useful for repair processes because the beam can be focused down to 0.05$\mu\textrm{m}$ dimensions and below and because the same tool can be used to sputter off material with sub-micrometer precision simply by turning off the gas ambient. Recently the chemical vapour deposition induced ion beam has been required more deposition rate and accurate pattern because of trying to manufacture many micro and nano parts. Therefore this paper suggested the optimization parameters and discussed some mechanism of chemical vapour deposition induced ion beam on FIB-CVD for simple pattern.

  • Based on the several advantages of high-temperature superconducting cable, there are many researches about HTS cable. In the aspect of power system engineering, since it has very low impedance, approximately zero, it is profitable for large capacity distribution line into the large scale load. In the step of its verifications, the HTS cable had been installed in Icheon substation and operated. In this paper, the protection coordination for Icheon substation had been designed and verified using PSCAD/EMTDC.

Seasonal Prediction of Tropical Cyclone Frequency in the Western North Pacific using GDAPS Ensemble Prediction System (GDAPS 앙상블 예보 시스템을 이용한 북서태평양에서의 태풍 발생 계절 예측)

  • This study investigates the possibility of seasonal prediction for tropical cyclone activity in the western North Pacific by using a dynamical modeling approach. We use data from the SMIP/HFP (Seasonal Prediction Model Inter-comparison Project/Historical Forecast Project) experiment with the Korea Meteorological Administration's GDAPS (Global Data Assimilation and Prediction System) T106 model, focusing our analysis on model-generated tropical cyclones. It is found that the prediction depends primarily on the tropical cyclone (TC) detecting criteria. Additionally, a scaling factor and a different weighting to each ensemble member are found to be essential for the best predictions of summertime TC activity. This approach indeed shows a certain skill not only in the category forecast but in the standard verifications such as Brier score and relative operating characteristics (ROC).

  • Examination of the die design is carried out for a multi-stage rectangular cup drawing process with the large aspect ratio with the aid of the finite element analysis. The analysis considers the deep drawing process with the ironing process for the thickness control in the cup wall. Simulation is performed to investigate the deformation mechanism in the initial design and the modified design. The analysis clarifies that the irregular cross section and the irregular contact condition produces unfavorable deformation. The analysis results show that the modified design improves the quality of a deep-drawn product with the low possibility of failure. The analysis result also shows good agreement with the experimental one.

  • Many function of railway signalling system which is in charge of most core function in a railway system are being operated by the software according to the development of computer technology. Accordingly, the source code testing to verify the safety of the railway signalling system software becomes to be more important, and related international standards highly recommend verifications on the source code also. For this reason, several related studies on vital source code verification were executed from several years ago in Korea. This paper performed tests through the application to railway signalling system being applied to the existing actual domestic railway sites through automated testing tools for coding rules of signalling system software and another signaling system software under development in Korea recently, and analyzed their results.

  • Stability of MBC1, a specific matching boundary condition, is proved for atomic simulations of a diatomic chain. The boundary condition and the Newton equations that govern the atomic dynamics form a coupled system. Energy functions that decay along with time are constructed for both the boundary with the same type atoms and the one with different type atoms. For a nonlinear chain, MBC1 is also shown stable. Numerical verifications are presented. Moreover, MBC1 is proved to be stable for a two dimensional square lattice.

  • Application contents verifications and operations are essential for using a secure smart phone environment. In the existing smartphone environment, application verification was performed only in the application company and users has direct management application. However these application verification and management practices have been caused by a variety of security vulnerabilities. Therefore, we will analyze the security vulnerabilities in the existing methods and then we propose an application contents management of smart phone using pre-qualification method.

  • This paper firstly briefly describes developed numerical model for both static and dynamic analysis of planar structures made of concrete, steel and masonry. The model can simulate the main nonlinearity of such individual and composite structures. The model is quite simple and based on a small number of material parameters. After that, three real composite concrete-steel-masonry bridges were analyzed using the presented numerical model. It was concluded that the model can be useful in practical analysis of composite bridges. However, future verifications of the presented numerical model are desirable.

  • With the increasing demand for head-mounted display applications, the image quality provided by a near-eye display device is a key factor in satisfying the consumer. Among various techniques to realize a near-eye display that has a thinner volume than the working distance of a human eye, a lightfield image-generation method based on a pinhole array is attracting much attention, with its simple and thin structure. In this paper, we propose a numerical analysis of the visual parameters and verifications with computational reconstruction.
