A Study on Applicability of Ultrasonic Flowmeter to Feedwater Flow Measurements in Nuclear Power Plants (원자력발전소의 급수유량 측정에 대한 초음파유량계의 적용성 연구)

  • The measurement uncertainties of an ultrasonic flowmeter were analyzed to evaluate its applicability to the measurement of the steam generator feedwater flow-rate in a nuclear power plant. The analyses of measurement uncertainties of a reactor power were also performed with the analyses of feedwater flow measurement uncertainties. Two ultrasonic flowmeters based on a cross-correlation technique and a transit time method were used in this study. The ultrasonic flowmeters were installed on a feedwater pipe line of a typical 1000 MWe Korea-standardized nuclear power plant to take the necessary data. The results have shown that the measurement uncertainties of the ultrasonic flowmeters are adequately smaller than those or a venturi meter. The research has also indicated that the measurement uncertainties of the reactor power based on the ultrasonic flowmeter uncertainties are sufficiently bounded by the uncertainty range usually assumed in nuclear safety analyses.

  • Liquid is commonly introduced as transversal jets in venturi scrubber which is one of the gas cleaning equipments. The jet dynamics such as penetration and breakup is of fundamental importance to the dust-collection efficiency. We have developed a model that can numerically simulate the breakup of the liquid jet in crossflow. This simulation consists of models on liquid column, jet surface breakup, column fracture and secondary droplet breakup. These models have been embedded in the KIVA3-V code. We have calculated such parameters as the jet penetration, jet trajectory, droplet size, velocity field and the volume flux distribution. The results are compared with the experimental data in this paper.

  • 액체로켓인 KSR-III는 점화시 및 연소실 압력의 이상 저하시 추진제가 지나치게 많이 공급되는 것을 막기 위하여 케비테이션 벤튜리를 사용한다. 본 연구에서는 Fluent가 제공하는 케비테이션 모형을 사용하여 케비테이션 벤튜리 내부의 공동 발생과 이에 따른 유량제어 현상을 해석하였다. 케비테이션 모형은 공동의 붕괴를 효과적으로 예측하지 못하는 단점이 있지만 벤튜리를 통과하는 유량은 공동이 발생하는 위치에서 유효 유로 감소에 의하여 제한되므로 유량제어 현상을 성공적으로 관찰할 수 있었다. 결과로서 벤튜리 상류의 압력이 일정하게 유지될 때 하류의 압력 변동에 대하여 유량이 변화하지 않음을 확인하였다. 상류의 압력이 24.1bar로 일정하게 유지되고 벤튜리에서 압력차이가 3bar 이하일 때 공동은 발생하지 않았다. 압력차가 6bar 이상일 때 공동이 발생하며 (압력차 6bar인 경우와 비교하여) 9bar, 12bar의 압력차에 대한 유량 증가는 각각 $5\%,\;7\%$에 그쳐 주어진 작동조건에서 벤튜리로 유량제어가 가능하였다.

  • A "two-fluid" equation model has been applied for predicting gas-solid suspension flows through a Venturi tube. In the "two-fluid"equation model, the bulk motion of the particles is considered as a continuum whose governing equation is obtained by averaging the conservation equations over a volume and expressing the equations in differential forms. Closure of the time-mean equations is achieved by modeling the turbulent correlations with an extended mixing-length theory. Proposed closure model is found to aptly simulate the dependency of the static pressure drop on the particle size, flow rate and the loading ratio.d the loading ratio.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the ambivalent characteristics of dichotomous contradictions expressed by Robert Venturi's architecture. It focused on his Mother's House, which applied his theoretical practices faithfully among many of his architectural works. First, he sought to change interior and exterior spaces by manipulating the architectural scales of "Mother's House". He achieved tension in space through structural complexities in combination with contradictions. Second, as for the characteristics of ambivalent contradictions, including linear and geometric forms, and plane, there were familarity which emphasizes tradition; external appearances of symmetry and asymmetry which give a comfort feeling; openness and closedness, which were expressed with the size of windows and objects such as molding. Third, the fireplace-chimney and the stair were forming appropriate harmony between contradiction and complexity as they competed for central position on the plane.

  • 본 연구에서는 Dyson사의 Air multiplier의 Coanda surface각도에 따른 Air foil 주변의 2차원 유동을 분석하고 Surface각도가 유동에 미치는 영향에 대해 해석하였다. Air multiplier 단면의 작은 Slit을 통해 분류된 공기는 Venturi effect에 의해 가속되며 Coanda effect에 의해 단면을 따라 흐르며 압력차를 발생시켜 주변의 공기를 추가적으로 유입시킨다. EDISON CFD를 이용하여 Surface 각도에 따른 Air foil 주변의 유동을 구현하고 각도가 유동에 미치는 영향을 해석하였다. 또한 다른 논문에서 발췌한 실험값과 CFD 분석을 통해 얻은 값을 비교하여 CFD분석이 유효한지 확인하였다.

Critical Discourse of Postmodern Aesthetics in Contemporary Furniture (I) - The background of New Design furniture in the postmodern era

  • This study explored the background of contemporary furniture design called New Design furniture, which newly expresses the aesthetics of communication in the postmodern era. Qualitative conceptual analysis as the principle methodology was used to explore the background of the decorative and meaningful contemporary furniture in postmodernism. Thereby, the postmodern concepts of Charles Jencks, Robert Venturi, and Michael Graves were analyzed in terms of their postmodern architecture and furniture. As initiatives of postmodern architecture and furniture, Jencks, Venturi, and Graves explored the pluralism and eclecticism, the decoration, the semantics, and the materials reestablished from the traditions of craft. As a result, their furniture was expressed by various wood and color; the furniture was beautiful, decorative, pluralistic, and eclectic for communicating symbol, metaphor, narrative, and/or humor with people; the furniture has influenced the communicative elements on the contemporary furniture design called New Design furniture design, which shows the blurring of fine arts and craft distinctions.

Development of KSR-III Propulsion Feeding System (KSR-III 추진기관 공급계 개발)

  • The development process of KSR-III propulsion feeding system is subscripted. The purpose of propulsion feeding system is to feed a certain amount of propellant from propellant tank to engine by the end of combustion. Pressure-fed liquid rocket, KSR-III has the unique characteristics of both pressure regulator and cavitation venturi as a passive flow control device. Main parameters of feeding system are confirmed by both water test and CFD(전산유체) technique. Flow control effect with venturi is confirmed by water test. Initial stabilization characteristic of pressure regulator is confirmed by real propellant test. And, to avoid the effect of resonance between rocket and feeding system, this article deal with POGO(포고) analysis to the feeding system.

Droplet size prediction model based on the upper limit log-normal distribution function in venturi scrubber

  • Droplet size and distribution are important parameters determining venturi scrubber performance. In this paper, we proposed physical models for a maximum stable droplet size prediction and upper limit log-normal (ULLN) distribution parameters. For the proposed maximum stable droplet size prediction model, a Eulerian-Lagrangian framework and a Reitz-Diwakar breakup model are solved simultaneously using CFD calculations to reflect the effect of multistage breakup and droplet acceleration. Then, two ULLN distribution parameters are suggested through best fitting the previously published experimental data. Results show that the proposed approach provides better predictions of maximum stable droplet diameter and Sauter mean diameter compared to existing simple empirical correlations including Boll, Nukiyama and Tanasawa. For more practical purpose, we developed the simple, one dimensional (1-D) calculation of Sauter mean diameter.
