Flow characteristics of the inflow ahead of a rotating propeller attached to a container ship model were investigated using a two-frame PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) technique. Ensemble-averaged mean velocity fields were measured at four different blade phases. The mean velocity fields show the acceleration of inflow due to the rotating propeller and the velocity deficit in the near-wake region. The axial velocity distribution of inflow in the upper plane of propeller is quite different from that in the lower plane due to the thick hull boundary layer. The propeller inflow also shows asymmetric axial velocity distribution in the port and starboard side. As the inflow moves toward the propeller, the effect of phase angle variation of propeller blade on the inflow becomes dominant. In the upper plane above the propeller axis the inflow has very low axial velocity and large turbulent kinetic energy, compared with the lower plane. The boundary layer developed along the bottom surface of stern hull forms a strong shear layer affecting vortex structure of the propeller near-wake.
In this paper, a nonlinear controller is proposed to track the desired velocity and to cancel sinusoidal disturbances. The proposed method consists of a velocity tracking controller and internal model principles (IMPs). For the design of the velocity tracking controller, mechanical and electrical dynamic controllers are independently designed. For the mechanical dynamics, the velocity tracking controller generates the desired quadrature current to track the desired velocity. The current tracking controller is designed to guarantee the desired quadrature current and to regulate the direct current. Therefore, the proposed velocity tracking controller has a field-oriented control. Since the controllers of the mechanical and electrical dynamics are independently designed, the stability of the closed-loop system is demonstrated using passivity. Since both the cogging torque and DC current errors act as sinusoidal disturbances in PMSM, we use four add-on type IMPs that preserve the merits and performance of the pre-designed controller without sacrificing the closed-loop stability. The performance of the proposed method is validated via simulations.
The flow velocity distribution at inlet and exit of a DPF was measured using a Pitot tube and 2-D positioning equipment. An adaptor which was designed for accessing the Pitot tube probe into inlet of the DPF was fabricated with inlet flange of the DPF. The Pitot tube which was mounted in the 2-D positioning machine could access to the inlet of the DPF through the rectangular window of the adaptor. Automation of the velocity measurement at the inlet and exit of the DPF was effectively achieved and measuring time was reduced drastically. The flow velocity distribution at the inlet of the DPF showed parabola shape with maximum velocity near to the center of the DPF, as expected. The velocity distribution at the exit of the DPF showed crown shape, that is, the flow velocity distribution near to the center of the DPF is lower than that at surrounded peripheral region of the DPF.
Fluidelastic instability is a key issue in steam generator tube bundles subjected in cross-flow. With a low flow velocity, a large amplitude vibration of the tube observed by many researchers. However, the mechanism of this vibration is seldom analyzed. In this paper, the mechanism of cross-flow effects on fluidelastic instability of tube bundles was investigated. Analysis reveals that when the system reaches the critical state, there would be two forms, with two critical velocities, and thus two expressions for the critical velocities were obtained. Fluidelastic instability experiment and numerical analysis were conducted to obtain the critical velocity. And, if system damping is small, with increases of the flow velocity, the stability behavior of tube array changes. At a certain flow velocity, the stability of tube array reaches the first critical state, a dynamic bifurcation occurs. The tube array returns to a stable state with continues to increase the flow velocity. At another certain flow velocity, the stability of tube array reaches the second critical state, another dynamic bifurcation occurs. However, if system damping is big, there is only one critical state with increases the flow velocity. Compared the results of experiments to numerical analysis, it shows a good agreement.

Most of the galaxy mass is known to be occupied by dark matter. However, it is difficult to directly measure the mass and distribution of dark matter in a galaxy. Recently, the velocity dispersion of the stellar population in a galaxy's center has been suggested as a possible probe of the mass of the dark matter halo. In this study, we test and verify this hypothesis using the kinematics of the satellite galaxies of isolated galaxies. We use the Friends-of-Friends (FoF)algorithm to build a catalog of primary galaxies and their satellite galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) DR 12. We calculate the dynamical mass of the primary galaxies from the velocity dispersion of their satellite galaxies. We then investigate the correlation between the dynamical mass and the central velocity dispersion of the primary galaxies. The stellar velocity dispersion of the central host galaxies has a strong linear correlation with the velocity dispersion of their satellite galaxies. Also, the stellar velocity dispersion of the central galaxy is strongly correlated with the dynamical mass of the galaxy, which can be described as a power law. The results of this study show that the central velocity dispersion of the primary galaxies is a good proxy for tracing the mass of dark matter halo.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of elastic taping on the power and velocity error of rectus femoris after muscle fatigue occurred. Method : The subjects of this study were 15 healthy students. The Primus RS was used to measure the power and velocity error of rectus femoris after muscle fatigue occurred. The power and velocity error were measured 3 times which are consist of pre-fatigue, after-fatigue and after 24 hours applied elastic tape on rectus femoris. A elastic tape was attached to rectus femoris between the antero inferior iliac spine (AIIS) and the tibia tuberosity. The collected data was analyzed using one-way repeated-measures ANOVA for comparison of the power and velocity error according to the measured time and Pearson test for correlation between the power and velocity error according to the measured time. Level of significance was set at 0.05. Result : No significant differences of the power and velocity error were found between $1^{st}$ and 2nd, 3rd measurements (p>.05). The power and velocity error, after 24 hours, of the applied elastic tape with muscle fatigue was significantly lower than muscle fatigue with no taping(p<.05). No significant correlations were found between the power and velocity error according to the measured time(p>.05). Conclusion : After applying the elastic tape on the rectus femoris, muscle fatigue occurred, which improved proprioception by decreasing movement error. It will be an important intervention to prevent musculoskeletal injuries and to enhance the motor control in exercise.

We present results of the velocity-resolved spectroscopy of the [Fe II] $\lambda$1.644${\mu}m$ emission toward outflow sources with the Subaru Telescope at the angular resolution of 0.apos;16 ${\~}$ 0.apos;5 arcseconds. The observed sources are L1551 IRS 5, DG Tau, HL Tau and RW Aur, which are located in the Taurus-Aurigae Molecular Cloud, one of the closest star forming regions (0.apos;1 = 14 AU). We were able to resolve outflow structure in the vicinity of the sources at a scale of a few tens of AU. The position-velocity diagram of each object shows two velocity components: the high velocity component (HVC: 200 - 400 km $s^{-l}$) and the low velocity component (LVC: 50 - 150 km $s^{-l}$), which are clearly distinct in space and velocity. The HVC may be a highly collimated jet presumed from its narrow velocity width and high velocity. The LVC, on the other hand, may be a widely opened disk wind inferred from its broad velocity width and low velocity. The spectrum taken perpendicular to the L1551 IRS 5 outflow at its base shows that the LVC has a spatially wide subcomponent, supporting the above interpretation. We demonstrated that the [Fe II] 1.644 $\mu$ spectroscopy is a very powerful tool for the studies of fast jets and winds that directly emanate from star-disk systems.

Carrier velocity in the MOSFET channel is the main driving force for improved transistor performance with scaling. We report measurements of the drift velocity of electrons and holes in silicon inversion layers. A technique for extracting effective carrier velocity which is a more accurate extraction method based on the actual inversion charge measurement is used. This method gives more accurate result over the whole range of $V_{ds}$, because it does not assume a linear approximation to obtain the inversion charge and it does not limit the range of applicable $V_{ds}$. For a very short channel length device, the electron velocity overshoot is observed at room temperature in 37 nm MOSFETs while no hole velocity overshoot is observed down to 36 nm. The electron velocity of short channel device was found to be strongly dependent on the longitudinal field.
This study were performed thermal shock test for four kind of different rocks (Iksan granite, Namsan granite, Jeongseon marble, Yeongyang sandstone), and according to heating temperature($400^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$) on samples were investigated physical properties such as specify gravity, porosity, p-wave velocity. As a result, the tendency was appeared that porosity increased, and specific gravity and p-wave velocity decreased at a more higher temperature. But, the situation of change appeared characteristic according to temperature and rock types. In the case of Yeongyang sandstone, it appeared in especially porosity increasing at $400^{\circ}C$. The specific gravity was little change in the all the rock at $400^{\circ}C$ but the decreased at $600^{\circ}C$. Therefore the specific gravity in the temperature range is due to the relatively small impact on the change is expected. Porosity of the granite at $400^{\circ}C$ changes little. but marble in the rate of change is large. Conversely, the sandstone porosity decreased. At $600^{\circ}C$ increased porosity in all of rocks. particularly sandstone the smallest increase in porosity. Experiments showed that p-wave velocity measured through dry rocks was sensitive to quantify the thermal damage. The p-wave velocity of all rocks decreased with increasing temperature. In the relation between porosity and p-wave velocity, p-wave velocity decreased with increasing porosity. On the other hand, in case of Yeongyang sandstone p-wave velocity decreased with decreasing porosity. thus, development of microcracks more affects p-wave velocity than porosity. In this study, damage intensity was well explained with porosity and p-wave velocity values depending on temperature increase.
