Simulation Experiments for Ubiquitous Traffic Flow Management (유비쿼터스 환경에서 최적교통관리를 위한 시뮬레이션 평가)

  • The ubiquitous transportation system environments make it possible to collect each vehicle's position and velocity data and to perform more sophisticated traffic flow management at individual vehicle or platoon level through V2V and V2I communications. The VISSIM simulation experiments were performed to address the issues in developing the preventive congestion management algorithm proposed in the companion paper. Traffic flow stability measures were developed based on the platoon profile, which enables us to explicitly consider traffic flow stability in traffic flow management. Traffic flow management strategies according to the traffic flow states were proposed: Maintain the equilibrium speed for free flow state, maintain the traffic flow stability by platoon control for critical state, and surpress the shock wave propagation for congested state. And finally potential benefit of the proposed traffic flow management scheme was evaluated based on the simulation experiment results. It is considered that extensive field experiments should be performed to confirm the simulated results.

  • In this paper we present the combination of location based mobile advertisement services and dynamic digital signage markets has been developing recent days to provide consumer admired visual mobile advertisement on all kind transportation vehicles. In spite of that, the digital signage advertisement content management is still not that easy to manage the content dynamically as well operation is most time consuming to handle the contents dynamically in digital signage business. As location based services is most impactful service in shopping, the location responsive advertisement on vehicle signage will be most desirable mobile advertisement to help people migrate from one place to another place for travel or stay. This paper propose a mobile location responsive digital signage system for vehicles using the GPS and wireless infrastructure integrated with digital signage system. This proposed research use the centralized digital signage system architecture for the mobile advertisement application and this system can be expanded to different vehicles for digital advertisement including buses, trucks, train, air vehicle and any other form of mobile advertising vehicles. Also, this present an effective advertisement recommendation algorithm, by which the advertisement can be selected broadcasted for the right advertisement ventures more effectively as the service requested from advertiser. This paper present the emulated experimental result to evidence the proposed dynamic vehicle signage system performed better than compared with traditional signage random advertising. The emulated result proves that the advertisement recommendation algorithm can effectively works out the targeted key audiences in location responsive region the algorithm evaluated.

Effective Emergency-Warning Message Transmission in the Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication Environment (차량 간 통신 환경에서 효과적인 위험 경고 메시지 전송 방안)

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm to improve collision avoidance in Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) networks based on IEEE 802.11p. Since IEEE 802.11p adopts CSMA/CA as a multiple access scheme and an emergency warning message (EWM) is delivered to behind vehicles in a multi-hop manner, due to transmission collision, the more vehicles in the vehicle chain results in a longer delay. The longer delay increases the possibility of a rear-end collision. In order to ensure message reception with low latency, we consider implicit acknowledgement of a broadcasted EWM message and propose an algorithm to reduce redundant message transactions, called Two-Way Implicit Acknowledgement (TWIA). By simulations, we show that our proposed algorithm can reduce the latency until the last car receives the message by 9% and the success rate every car receives the message within 0.7sec by 12% at 100 fixed-number-of-car environment.

  • Today, According to it widely used that third generation mobile networks service, WCDMA module development technology and its utilization is expanding increasingly and thus to IT Convergence industries is a trend that a lot of appears. This paper, OBD-II communications to bring a vehicle information use and data to an external server transfer and it was developed that vehicle status monitoring from other external devices can be system. From the various sensors inside a vehicle using the OBD-II connector read the information, after converting the user easier to see, WCDMA module using the car status monitoring system to transfer to an external data server was implemented. Developed to test the performance of the system using virtual's state vehicle simulator, which occurs in the real car that will generate the data. It was sent to the OBD-II connector to be occurred data, vehicle status monitoring system was confirmed that Data was received without error. In addition, When this data using WCDMA transmit data to an external server the same data was confirmed that it was received without error. In the future, this technology using the OBD-II vehicle IT convergence technology can be used in a wide range.

This phenomenon of detection and avoidance is the key attribute for safety applications in vehicle to pedestrian (V2P) communications systems.   • V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) is a special kind of VANET (Vehicular Ad-hoc Network), which has high mobility and frequent topology changes and causes the link breakage problem. To resolve this problem, geographic routing protocols such as greedy forwarding are proposed. However, the greedy forwarding approach selects the node closest to the destination node as the transfer node within the transmission range so that it may cause many problems owing to many intersections and many changes in vehicular traffic in urban areas. The paper proposes a greedy perimeter urban routing (GPUR) algorithm considering the presence of 2-hop neighbor nodes and the road characteristics. Simulation results using ns-2 reveal that the proposed GPUR algorithm significantly reduces the routing error problem and the probability of local maximum than the existing routing protocols.

  • The smart grid technology is expected to significantly improve energy efficiency by dynamic power supply. One of its application is the Vehicle-to-Grid(V2G) that utilizes an electric vehicle's battery as a household storage battery. Meanwhile, a lot of researches are recently investigated in the area of wireless energy transfer technology because of its convenience and safety in charging a battery. With the wireless energy transfer infrastructure a wireless magnetic induction communication technique can help the dynamic power supply of the smart grid more efficient. In this paper, we propose a wireless magnetic induction communication sion cowhich includes data transmission and location-aware functions. We expect the sion cohelp the smart grid to control power supply more efficiently. We also developed its test-bed and evaluated the performance.

  • This study presented a novel method to estimate travel times under incident conditions. Predictive travel time information was defined and evaluated with the proposed method. The proposed method utilized individual vehicle speeds obtained from global positioning systems (GPS) and inter-vehicle communications(IVC) for more reliable real-time travel times. Individual vehicle trajectory data were extracted from microscopic traffic simulations using AIMSUN. Market penetration rates (MPR) and IVC ranges were explored with the accuracy of travel times. Relationship among travel time accuracy, IVC ranges, and MPR were further identified using regression analyses. The outcomes of this study would be useful to derive functional requirements associated with traffic information systems under forthcoming ubiquitous transportation environment

  • In this paper, An LQR controller is proposed for way-point tracking of AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle). The LQR controller aims at tracking a series of way-points which operator registers arbitrarily in advance. It consists of a depth controller and a steering controller and AUV's surge speed is assumed varying to consider the dynamic environment of the underwater. In order to show the performance, a conventional state feedback controller is compared with the proposed controller by the simulation using Matlab/Simulink. The parameters of AUV developed by the author's laboratory are used. In the simulation, we verify that the LQR controller can track all the way-points within 1 m error range under the varying surge speed, which proves the robustness of the LQR controller.

Creation of 3D Maps for Satellite Communications to Support Ambulatory Rescue Operations

  • A communications profile is a system that acquires information from communication links to an ambulance or other vehicle moving on a road and compiles a database based on this information. The equipment (six sets of HDTVs, fish-eye camera, satellite antenna with tracking system, and receiving power from the satellite beacon of the N-star) mounted on the roof of the vehicle, image data were obtained at Yokohama Japan. From these data, the polygon of the building was actually produced and has arranged on the map of the Geographical Survey Institute of a 50 m-mesh. The optical study (relationship between visibility rate and elevation angle) were performed on actual data taken by fish-eye lens, and simulated data by 3D-Map with polygons. There was no big difference. This 3D map system then predicts the communication links that will be available at a given location. For line-of-sight communication, optical analysis allows approximation if the frequency is sufficiently high. For non-line-of-sight communication, previously obtained electric power data can be used as reference information for approximation in certain cases when combined with predicted values calculated based on a 3D map. 3D maps are more effective than 2D maps for landing emergency medical helicopters on public roadways in the event of a disaster. Using advanced imaging technologies, we have produced a semi-automatic creation of a high-precision 3D map at Yokohama Yamashita Park and vicinity and assessed its effectiveness on telecommunications and ambulatory merits.
