Vehicle dynamics control systems are. complex and non-linear, so they have difficulties in developing a controller for the anti-lock braking systems and the auto-traction systems. Currently the fuzzy-logic technique to estimate the absolute vehicle speed is good results in normal conditions. But the estimation error in severe braking is discontented. In this paper, we estimate the absolute vehicle speed by using the wheel speed data from standard 50-tooth anti-lock braking system wheel speed sensors. Radial symmetric basis function of the neural network model is proposed to implement and estimate the absolute vehicle speed, and principal component analysis on input data is used. Ten algorithms are verified experimentally to estimate the absolute vehicle speed and one of those is perfectly shown to estimate the vehicle speed with a 4% error during a braking maneuver.
Recently, right rail transit (L.R.T.) systems become influential as a new traffic system in urban area to solve heavy traffic problems. However, there are little research results about the dynamic interaction problems between the vehicle and structural system, even though some studies far those static problems have been carried out. Therefore, first of ail, the dynamic equations of an interaction between vehicle system and surface roughness of the vehicle path are derived before developing the dynamic equations of vehicle-structure-surface roughness system, in this study. As a vehicle model, an automated guide-way transit (A.G.T.) system is adopted. Parametric study shows that the dynamic wheel loads of the vehicle system has a tendency to increase with vehicle speeds and stiffness of suspension system. However, those dynamic wheel loads have tendencies to decrease in according to loads of the vehicle system.
A three-mass vehicle model including one rigid mass and two unsprung masses is adopted to predict the vehicle-bridge interaction (VBI) and to establish the nonlinear coupled governing equations. To overcome the numerical instability and large computation problems concerning the vehicle-bridge system, the perturbation method is used to convert the nonlinear coupled governing equations into a set of linear uncoupled equations. Formulas for bridge's natural frequencies considering both the VBI and the dynamic responses of bridge and vehicle are proposed. Compared with the numerical results obtained by the Newmark-β method, the theoretical solutions for natural frequencies and dynamic responses are validated. The effects of the important factors of unsprung mass, vehicle damping, surface irregularity on the natural frequencies and dynamic responses of bridge and vehicle are discussed, based on the theoretical solutions.
This paper presents an analysis on driving safety in lane change situation based on road driving data. Autonomous driving is a global trend in vehicle industry. LKAS technologies are already applied in commercial vehicle and researches about lane change maneuver have been actively studied. In autonomous vehicle, not only safety control issue but also imitating human driving maneuver is important. Driving data analysis in lane change situation has been usually dealt with ego vehicle information such as longitudinal acceleration, yaw rate, and steering angle. For this reason, developing safety index according to surrounding vehicle information based on human driving data is needed. In this research, driving data is collected from perception module using LIDAR, radar and RT-GPS sensors. By analyzing human driving pattern in lane change maneuver, safety index that considers both ego vehicle and surrounding vehicle state by using relative velocity and longitudinal clearance has been designed.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the injury mechanism of facial injury related to an air-bag's deployment in occupant motor vehicle accident (MVA) by using Hospital Information System (HIS) and reconstruction program, based on the materials related to motor vehicle accidents. Among patients who visited the emergency department of Wonju Severance Christian Hospital due to motor vehicle accidents from August 2012 to February 2014, we collected data on patients with agreement for taking the damaged vehicle's photos. After obtaining the verbal consent from the patient, we asked about the cause of the accident, information on vehicle involved in the accident, and the location of car repair shop. The photos of the damaged vehicle were taken on the basis of front, rear, left side and right side. Damage to the vehicle was presented using the CDC code by analytical study of photo-images of the damaged vehicle, and a trauma score was used for medical examination of the severity of the patient's injury. Among the 309 patients with agreement for an investigation, thirty five (11.3 %) were the severe who had ISS over 15. And also, sixteen (5.2%) derived from the reconstructed data (maximum collision energy, maximum acceleration, delta V) by PC-Crash. As a result, ISS including the facial injuries was affected by the condition. It was high when the number of crash extent, the safety belt was not fastened, and the seating position of occupant and the direction of collision is same. For accurate analysis of the relationship between occupant injury and vehicle damage in MVAs, build-up of an in-depth database through carrying out various policies for motor vehicle accidents is necessary for sure.

It is important to guarantee the safety of vehicle to minimize the damage to the driver in case of the accidents. In order to inspect and later enhance the safety of vehicle, the owner of the vehicle usually have a vehicle safety inspection. The Korea Transportation Safety Authority (KOTSA) issues the Comprehensive Performance Inspection Certificate after vehicle inspection. The certificate only specify the legal inspection criteria for safety and measured values of the safety parameters, however, as ordinary driver in lack of expert knowledge about the vehicle is difficult to understand the contents of the Certificate. Thus, in this paper, the authors try to give the information about the inspection results in easier way to understand. This information not only guarantees the owner of the vehicle to better understand the inspection results, but it also gives the opportunity to the driver to deal with the specific problem listed in the results. The methods in this paper are to transform the vehicle inspection data into the non parametric distribution to easily represent the values to the index later on. Also, example indexes are presented to the actually inspected vehicle based on the reference distribution to show the better assessment of the developed method.

Injury mechanisms of lower extremity injuries in motor vehicle accidents are focused on fractures, sprains, and contusions. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the analysis of lower extremity injury mechanism in occupant motor vehicle accident by using Hospital Information System (HIS) and reconstruction program, based on the materials related to motor vehicle accidents. Among the 1,699 patients due to motor vehicle crashes, 88 (5.2%) received a diagnosis of lower extremity fracture and 141 (8.3%) were the severe who had ISS over 15. Nevertheless during 19 months for research, it was difficult to build up in-depth database about motor vehicle crashes. It has a limitation on collecting data because not only the system for constructing database about motor vehicle crash is not organized but also the process for demanding materials is not available due to prevention of personal information. For accurate analysis of the relationship between occupant injury and vehicle damage in motor vehicle crashes, build-up of an in-depth database through carrying out various policies for motor vehicle crashes is necessary for sure.
FMVSS226 Ejection Mitigation Impact Test is usually performed by real vehicle. But it is necessary to perform the test using by Reinforced B.I.W. with considering vehicle developing timing and roof rail airbag (RRAB) supplier capacity. We sometimes need tendency (quick data) instead of slow accurate data to fix RRAB design as proper timing. Test with Reinforced B.I.W. is helpful saving time and cost. But it should be confirmed how much different between vehicle conditioned test result and Reinforced B.I.W. conditioned test result. There are some points to be improved even in the test with vehicle. Understanding of deviation of Reinforced B.I.W. conditioned test result from vehicle conditioned test result is needed to get benefits with using Reinforced B.I.W. conditioned in the test.

This paper presents a mathematical model which is about the dynamics of not only a two wheel steering vehicle but a four wheel steering vehicle. A sliding mode ABS control strategy and PID rear wheel control logic are developed to improve the brake and cornering performances, and enhance the stability during emergency maneuvers. The performances of the controllers are evaluated under the various driving road conditions and driving situations. The numerical study shows that the proposed full car model is sufficient to accurately predict the vehicle response. The proposed ABS controller reduces the stopping distance and increases the vehicle stability. The results also prove that the ABS controller can be employed to a four wheel steering vehicle and improves its performance. The four wheel steering vehicle with PID rear wheel controller shows increase of stability when a vehicle speed is high and sharp cornering maneuver when a vehicle speed is low compared to that of a two wheel steer vehicle.

A method for automatically driving paddy vehicles, such as rice transplanters, etc., straight ahead in a paddy field was investigated . The direction of such vehicles must be precisely controlled to do the operations as straight. However, the alignment of the from wheels becomes distorted due to the unevenness of the ground, preventing the vehicle form going straight. If the proper alignment of the front wheels is maintained , the vehicle can be driven straight ahead greater precision. To investigate the influence of the ground uneveness, the behavior of a paddy vehicle running over an obstacle was quantified. The left wheel ran over an obstacle on a flat concrete road surfaced. When the steering wheel was free, the front wheels were forced toward the left when vehicle went up the obstacle and toward the right when the vehicle went down it. The torsion of the wheel when the vehicle went down the obstacle was larger than that when it went up ,so it turned right 5 degrees. Sinc hydraulic control steering decreased the steering angle , it turned right 3 degrees. These results suggest that a vehicle can be driven straight ahead with high precision when the steering angle is changed in response to the direction and inclination of the vehicle . Such results were obtained in a paddy field tests.
