In Korea, the number of recreational vehicle (RV) has been increased dramatically recent year. Now there are emission regulations for RV which include pollutants such as CO, HC, NOx, PM. However considering the trend of preferring RV, there needs more strict strategies to control emissions from this type of vehicle. For that reason, we studied emission characteristics of RV and provided basic emission data to evaluate the contribution of RV to the total air pollutant emissions and to establish RV emission management plan. A total of 21 RV were tested on the chassis dynamometer system ranging from small to large engine displacement by vehicle speed, fuel types, regulations and fuel efficiency in order to investigate the characteristics of CO, HC, NOx and PM. For the test modes, 10 different driving speed modes and CVS-75 mode were used. On the basis of this study, RV pollutants emission factors and management strategies will be proposed.
The particulate matter that was emitted always come up by atmospheric environmental problem. Running on the road vehicles must have regular inspection at regular period and make sure the emissions of exhaust gases exceed the legal standards. Emission test for the atmospheric environment, but it is not free from the particulate matter. Currently, emission test of vehicle inspection is divided into regular inspection and close inspection. Regular inspection and close inspection differ not only the method of emission test, but also the facility standards that must have for this inspection. According to the "Regulations on the Implementation of Comprehensive vehicle Inspection, etc.", close inspection must have trapping device that is trap particulate matter by emission test to vehicle. However, regular inspection is different. Regular inspection do not specify any criteria for trapping facilities. Therefore, this study is confirm how to prevent the emission of particulate matter to the atmosphere during the year when mandatory trapping facilities are required to trapped particulate matter in the regular inspection.

As the interest on the air pollution is gradually rising up at home and abroad, automotive industries have been working on the exhaust emission reduction from vehicles through a lot of approaches, which consist of new engine design, innovative aftertreatment systems, and using clean fuels. Methanol, ethanol, LNG, LPG, H2, reformulated gasoline are generally recognized as the clean fuel. Since the low price policy of government on LPG has expanded its vehicle market recently, there is concern of the exhaust emission of LPG vehicle. In this paper, we studied the value of LPG fuel as a clean fuel by comparing the results of the exhaust emission from LPG and Gasoline fueled vehicles, and discussed its limitation of LPG vehicle with mixer type as a fuel supply system. FTIR was used to understand the difference of exhaust emission components of LPG and Gasoline fueled vehicles.
Currently the problem of air pollution caused by the motor vehicle emission is one of the most serious problems to be solved. Thus we needed the inspection method and technical innovation constraining the motor vehicle emission. In order to establish the more reasonable certified test, the multivariate sequential rectifying inspection plan designed in this paper has been applied to the domestic vehicles by analyzing the statistic characteristics of the emission distribution. This inspection method is designed to satisfy the evaluation measure constraining domestic vehicle emission, and it serves the defect rectifying system and performance certification of catalytic converts. As the prior parameter for the domestic vehicles, we used the data for the catalytic converts which passed the certified test excuted by the EPK. For the case of engine test, we used those data which passed the certified test of domestic vehicles. The multivariate sequential rectifying inspection plan of the vector parameter is able to minimize the average sample number and increase the pass probability of operating characteristic curve.

In the quantitative analysis of oxygenated exhaust emissions (unburned methanol, formal- dehyde) from methanol fueled vehicles, the oxygen contained in oxygenated exhaust gases lowers the FID (Flame Ionization Detector) response factor of conventional THC analyzer and leads to erroneous HC reading. For correct measurement of various HCs including oxygenated HCs emitted from FFV(Flexible Fuel Vehicle), first of all, the measurement technique of real HC emissions should be established. GC and HPLC-DNPH measuring methods specified by the EPA are used in this paper to analyze unburned methanol and formaldehyde components in the exhaust emissions. In emission test of FFV, unburned methanol and formaldehyde are emitted mostly during cold transient period, and it is shown that formaldehyde emission level is proportional to engine displacements. In view of the HC emission level, vehicle using M85 has 40% advantage over gasoline-fueled vehicle in OMHCE and has a good potential of a low emission vehicle.
The purpose of this study is analysis to vehicle's fuel economy and emission gas characteristics by fuel type. The test vehicle were selected to similar weight and performance, the test vehicle was used three representative mode(CVS-75, HWFET and NEDC) in order to evaluation fuel economy and emission gas. For reference, environment pollution cost was calculated on the basis of the exhaust emissions occurred in the test in progress.

An objective of this study is to suggest a procedure to evaluate vehicle emissions regardless of the driving pattern. Field experiments using portable emission measurement system were conducted under the real world driving cycle. Standardized average for NOx, $CO_2$ emission and fuel consumption rates were calculated while the vehicle specific power distribution within each vehicle speed bin was taken into consideration. Composite emission factor and fuel economy, which were obtained based on the standardized average results and traffic statistics, showed good similarity to those acquired through the conventional chassis dynamometer tests qualitatively as well as quantitatively. Considering that a conventional method obviously has a limitation to reflect various characteristics of the real world, the new approach suggested in this study can be used as an alternative procedure to collect more specific data to establish the mobile emission factors.
In Korea, the Air Quality Conservation Act and the Petroleum and Petroleum Substitute Fuel Business Act stipulate certain quality standards for fuels distributed in Korea, thereby striving to reduce vehicle performance and emissions. Domestic petroleum products import and produce all the crude oil from each oil refiner so that the quality of the petroleum product is different according to the characteristics of the crude oil. As a result, vehicles have been improved by using the physical properties calculated through the physical property measurement that has tried to improve the accuracy of the measurement of the energy consumption efficiency of the automobile by using standard fuel from abroad. In this study, the same test procedure and method as the test method of domestic gasoline vehicle emission are applied using four samples of gasoline and the latest gasoline vehicle which are actually distributed, and the performance evaluation is performed. The purpose of this study is to contribute to improvement of vehicle technology and fuel quality by collecting necessary basic data and obtaining data on the effect of differences in gasoline property on vehicle emissions. The results of the test showed that the emission of gases (NMOG, CO) from gasoline vehicles was the most influenced by the sulfur content, unlike the previous studies that the vehicles emission had the greatest influence on the distillation characteristics and the specific gravity of aromatic compounds. The catalytic reaction such as the poisoning action of the three-way catalyst which is the abatement device was interfered and the emission was increased. The distillation characteristics and specific gravity of aromatic compounds were found to affect the emission of vehicles. According to the physical properties of the fuel, the emission difference was 28.0% in the urban mode and 17.6 % in the highway mode.

An objective of this study is to give practical information that could be used for calculating pollutant emission factors and fuel economy from Korean Inspection & Maintenance program, which has been using steady state acceleration simulation mode. Concentration results from I/M test is adequately converted to mass emission factors and fuel efficiency data, which have unit of g/km and km/L, respectively. Exhaust volume flow(EVF), which is for converting emission result from concentration to mass, is measured by tracer method in various vehicle speed - power condition. It is found that there is an apparent second order relationship between EVF and vehicle inertia weight. EVF is expressed in function of vehicle inertia weight in order to estimate EVF in I/M site without measuring device. Converted mass emission results from measured EVF and raw emission analyzer show a satisfactory agreement with those from conventional CVS-bag type measurement system. Mass emission factors and fuel efficiency from measured EVF and estimated EVF also show good agreement to each other. Considering that an I/M program has great advantages to recruit-based emission test in terms of the number of test vehicle, the information in this study can be used for developing an alternative procedure to collect more various data to establish national database of mobile emission factors and fuel economy, even though the driving cycle in I/M program is steady state cycle rather than transient cycle.

The demand of diesel engine on the construction equipment has been rapidly increased because of high thermal efficiency and fuel economy. The exhaust emission from nonroad vehicles equipped with diesel engine such as construction equipment, ship, and agricultural equipment, etc. Which are known to be harmful to human health and environment, has not been regulated in our country. But the regulation for nonroad vehicle has been already progressed in advanced country. So we investigated the contribution ratio of air pollution by construction equipment in order to establish the exhaust emission management strategy for nonroad vehicle. Based on the statistical data for construction equipment, 5 kinds of equipment are selected and tested in the engine dynamometer to determine the emission factor. And the amount of air pollutant from construction equipment are calculated by using of the emission factor and recommended exhaust emission standard for construction equipment.
