  • In this paper, we propose a method to classify road weather conditions into rain, fog, and sun using a SVM (Support Vector Machine) classifier after extracting weather features from images acquired in real time using an optical sensor installed on a roadside post. A multi-dimensional weather feature vector consisting of factors such as image sharpeness, image entropy, Michelson contrast, MSCN (Mean Subtraction and Contrast Normalization), dark channel prior, image colorfulness, and local binary pattern as global features of weather-related images was extracted from road images, and then a road weather classifier was created by performing machine learning on 700 sun images, 2,000 rain images, and 1,000 fog images. Finally, the classification performance was tested for 140 sun images, 510 rain images, and 240 fog images. Overall classification performance is assessed to be applicable in real road services and can be enhanced further with optimization along with year-round data collection and training.

  • In this paper, we focused on the problem of evaluating multi-class classification accuracy and simulation of multiple classifier performance metrics. Multi-class classifiers for sentiment analysis involved many challenges, whereas previous research narrowed to the binary classification model since it provides higher accuracy when dealing with text data. Thus, we take inspiration from the non-linear Support Vector Machine to modify the algorithm by embedding dynamic hyperplanes representing multiple class labels. Then we analyzed the performance of multi-class classifiers using macro-accuracy, micro-accuracy and several other metrics to justify the significance of our algorithm enhancement. Furthermore, we hybridized Enhanced Convolution Neural Network (ECNN) with Dynamic Support Vector Machine (DSVM) to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the classifier towards multi-class text data. We performed experiments on three hybrid classifiers, which are ECNN with Binary SVM (ECNN-BSVM), and ECNN with linear Multi-Class SVM (ECNN-MCSVM) and our proposed algorithm (ECNNDSVM). Comparative experiments of hybrid algorithms yielded 85.12 % for single metric accuracy; 86.95 % for multiple metrics on average. As for our modified algorithm of the ECNN-DSVM classifier, we reached 98.29 % micro-accuracy results with an f-score value of 98 % at most. For the future direction of this research, we are aiming for hyperplane optimization analysis.

  • Reliability-based Topology optimization(RBTO) is to get an optimal design satisfying uncertainties of design variables. Although RBTO based on homogenization and density distribution method has been done, RBTO based on BESO has not been reported yet. This study presents a reliability-based topology optimization(RBTO) using bi-directional evolutionary structural optimization(BESO). Topology optimization is formulated as volume minimization problem with probabilistic displacement constraint. Young's modulus, external load and thickness are considered as uncertain variables. In order to compute reliability index, four methods, i.e., RIA, PMA, SLSV and ADL(adaptive-loop), are used. Reliability-based topology optimization design process is conducted to obtain optimal topology satisfying allowable displacement and target reliability index with the above four methods, and then each result is compared with respect to numerical stability and computing time. The results of this study show that the RBTO based on BESO using the four methods can effectively be applied for topology optimization. And it was confirmed that DLSV and ADL had better numerical efficiency than SLSV. ADL and SLSV had better time cost than DLSV. Consequently, ADL method showed the best time efficiency and good numerical stability.

  • Timely fault identification is important for safe and reliable operation of the electric valve system. Many research works have utilized different data-driven approach for fault diagnosis in complex systems. However, they do not consider specific characteristics of critical control components such as electric valves. This work presents an integrated shallow-deep fault diagnostic model, developed based on signals extracted from DN50 electric valve. First, the local optimal issue of particle swarm optimization algorithm is solved by optimizing the weight search capability, the particle speed, and position update strategy. Then, to develop a shallow diagnostic model, the modified particle swarm algorithm is combined with support vector machine to form a hybrid improved particle swarm-support vector machine (IPs-SVM). To decouple the influence of the background noise, the wavelet packet transform method is used to reconstruct the vibration signal. Thereafter, the IPs-SVM is used to classify phase imbalance and damaged valve faults, and the performance was evaluated against other models developed using the conventional SVM and particle swarm optimized SVM. Secondly, three different deep belief network (DBN) models are developed, using different acoustic signal structures: raw signal, wavelet transformed signal and time-series (sequential) signal. The models are developed to estimate internal leakage sizes in the electric valve. The predictive performance of the DBN and the evaluation results of the proposed IPs-SVM are also presented in this paper.

  • Sentimental analysis begins with the search for words that determine the sentimentality inherent in data. Managers can understand market sentimentality by analyzing a number of relevant sentiment words which consumers usually tend to use. In this study, we propose exploring performance of feature selection methods embedded with Particle Swarm Optimization Multi Objectives Evolutionary Algorithms. The performance of the feature selection methods was benchmarked with machine learning classifiers such as Decision Tree, Naive Bayesian Network, Support Vector Machine, Random Forest, Bagging, Random Subspace, and Rotation Forest. Our empirical results of opinion mining revealed that the number of features was significantly reduced and the performance was not hurt. In specific, the Support Vector Machine showed the highest accuracy. Random subspace produced the best AUC results.

  • In this paper, we described the real-time implementation effort of MPEG-4 audio HVXC (Harmonic Vector eXcitation Coding) algorithm for very low bitrates, which has target applications from mobile communications to Internet telephony, on current high performance floating point TMS320C6701 DSP. We adopted a hardware structure for real-time operation. In order for software optimization, we used C- and assembly-language level optimizations for time-critical functional codes. Utilizing the internal program memory of the DSP as the program cache, the internal data memory overlap technique and DMA functionality, we could get a goal of realtime operation of HVXC codec both at 2 kbit/s and at 4 kbit/s. For an encoder at 2 kbit/s, the optimization ratio to original code is about 96 %. Finally, we got the subjective quality of MOS 2.45 at 2 kbit/s from an informal quality test.

  • In this paper, the method of region segmentation using genetic algorithm is proposed for an improvement of efficiency in moving picture coding. A genetic algorithm is the method that searches a large probing space using only a function value for a optimal combination consecutively. By progressing both motion presumption and region segmentation at once, we can assign the motion vector in a image to a small block or a pixel respectively, and transform the capacity of coding and a signal to noise rate into a problem of optimization. That is to say, there is close correlation between region segmentation and motion presumption in motion-compensated prediction coding. This is to optimize the capacity of coding and a S/N ratio. This is to arrange the motion vector in each block of picture according to the state of optimization. Therefore, we examined both the data type of genetic algorithm and the method of data processing to obtain the results of optimal region segmentation in this paper. And we confirmed the validity of a proposed method using the test pictures by means of computer simulation.

  • These papers propose an evolutionary algorithm for re-using output of waste fuel of light water reactor system in nuclear power plants. Evolutionary algorithm is useful for optimization of the large space problem. The wastes contain several re-useable elements, and they should be carefully selected and blended to satisfy requirements as input material to the heavy water nuclear reactor system. This problem belongs to a NP-hard like the 0/1 Knapsack problem. Two evolutionary strategies are used as a, pp.oximation algorithms in the highly constrained combinatorial optimization problem. One is the traditional strategy, using random operator with evaluation function, and the other is heuristic based search that uses the vector operator reducing between goal and current status. We also show the method, which performs the feasible teat and solution evaluation by using the vectorized data in problem. Finally, We compare the simulation results of using random operator and vector operator for such combinatorial optimization problems.

  • We confirmed the hypo-osmotic shock strengths and duration, different type of vectors, and subcelluar localization to identify the optimum analysis condition of plant aquaporin activity in Xenopus ooctye using Arabidopsis thaliana AtPIP2-1 gene. Six minutes and 1/5ND buffer hypoosmotic shock treatment was the best condition to show the maximum swelling of Xenopus oocytes where AtPIP2-1 was expressed using pcDNA3.1 vector. AtPIP2-1 protein was expressed more efficiently in pGEMHE vector which has 5' and 3' UTR (untranslation region) of Xenopus ${\beta}$-GLOBIN gene in multiple cloning site than in pcDNA3.1 vector. Also green fluorescence of GFP fused to AtPIP2-1 was detected onto oocyte plasmamembrane where is the proper subcellular localization target of AtPIP2-1.
