  • This study investigated the impact of the fire disturbance and the pattern of recovery of soil dwelling oribatid mite communities with respect to the resilience from the fire disturbance. Oribatid mites are important decomposer animals of plant debris in soil with the feeding habits of saprophagy and mycophagy. Massive wild fire reduced soil oribatid mite abundance and diversity. The impact varied relative to the intensity of the disturbance. The proportion of the species common to the non-disturbed natural site increased as the time after the disturbance elapsed, which implying some degree of naturalness occurring in reorganization phase of the oribatid mite community. From the sites with different degree of fire impact, we found higher diversity in intermediately disturbed sites than in severely disturbed or non-disturbed site, supporting the intermediate disturbance hypothesis. Also this study showed that with differential degree of disturbance plots, resilience pattern after the disturbance can be explored even with shorter period research relative to the ecological succession of community.

  • In order to investigate the scavenging property of airborne carbonaceous particles by precipitations, rainwater, snow sample, and total suspended particulate matter (TSP) were collected at a heavily industrialized urban site. Elemental carbon (EC) contents of both rainwater and snow water were deter-mined using elemental analysis system. EC concentrations in rain samples varied from 33.6 to 166.6 $\mu\textrm{g}$ L$^{-1}$ with an average 47.2 $\mu\textrm{g}$ L$^{-1}$ . On the other hand, those of snow samples in three times snow events were ranged from 122.4 to 293.3 $\mu\textrm{g}$ L$^{-1}$ . As might be expected, EC showed the significantly high scavenging rate at the initial rainfall. The average total carbon (TC) scavenging rate by washout mechanisms was 57.6% for five rainfall events. The scavenging rate of EC gradually increased in proportion to the increasing rainfall intensity and rainfall amount.

  • The photovoltaic modules have each maximum power point, which depending on the intensity of sunlight, modules temperature and etc. Cuk converter is used to obtain the maximum charging power from photovoltaic modules to storage batteries. This paper proposed to a new tracking control method by detecting its current and voltage in photovoltaic power generation system controlled by microprocessor, in order to operate at the maximum power point tracking(MPPT) even if the sunlight and the temperature are varied.

  • In this study, the purpose finds out the best welding conditions for bonding of electric wire by ultrasonic welding. The material was plastic-insulating low-voltage-cabels for automobiles. The experiment varied the values of welding time and welding pressure and fixed the values of amplitude and energy. With the facts, the best condition for ultrasonic welding to achieve bonding exactly is gained according to the size of the cross-sectional area of the cable, and the adhesive intensity is greatly influenced by the variables of welding time and welding pressure. Also when the welding time and welding time and welding pressure increase as the cross-sectional areas of the cable increase the welding result in gained exactly.

  • This paper shows a derating design approach for LED reliability improvement. The LED is widely used in display devices or circuits. The main failure of interest is defined as 100% reduction of the light output intensity of LED resulting from corrosion due to stresses, i.e. temperature and humidity. The lifetime is varied according to the stress levels under where the LED operates so that correlation of the lifetime to these stress levels over time is modeled through accelerated life testings. A derating design approach to accomplish a required reliability level of LED is proposed to determine adequate the stress levels. In the approach, $B_{10}$ life, Failure rate, Sensitivity Analysis of LED are used as a reliability metric.

  • Acid rainwater samples were collected during 4 years from 1992 in Pusan area nearby seaside. Ionic composition of early and succeeding rainwater were investigated to identify emission sources. pH and Electronic Conductivity of samples were measured immediately after sampling. Major ion concentrations of rain samples were Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, NH4+, SO42-, NO3-, Cl- which were analyzed by ion Chromatography. 55% of early rainwater and 90% of succeeding rainwater were identified below pH 5.6. Because, Na+, K+, Ca2+ were washed mostly in early rainwater, as a result, pH values were increased by increasing rainfall amounts. It was studied that pH value was varied from ambient ion component, rainfall, and rain intensity. From the principal component analysis result, the dominant components of acid rainwater were Na+, K2+, Mg2+, Ca2+, the elements were contributed soil and marine source, the second components nuts -SO42-, SO4a-, NO3-, nuts -Ca2+ originated from man - made source.

  • To reveal the newly found liftoff height behavior of hydrogen jet, we have experimentally studied the stabilization mechanism of turbulent, lifted jet flames in a non-premixed condition. The objectives of the present research are to report the phenomenon of a liftoff height decreasing as increasing fuel velocity, to analyse the flame structure and behavior of the lifted jet, and to explain the mechanisms of flame stability in hydrogen turbulent non-premixed jet flames. The velocity of hydrogen was varied from 100 to 300m/s and a coaxial air velocity was fixed at 16m/s with a coflow air less than 0.1m/s. For the simultaneous measurement of velocity field and reaction zone. PIV and OH PLIF technique was used with two Nd:Yag lasers and CCD cameras. As results, it has been found that the stabilization of lifted hydrogen diffusion flames is related with a turbulent intensity, which means that combustion occurs where the local flow velocity is valanced with the turbulent flame propagation velocity.

  • Zinc diffusion characteristics and its applicabilities have been studied using an open-tube system. Thermal decomposition of arsenide(As) at gallium arsenide(GaAs) wafer surface was well inhibited by using Ga: poly-GaAs: Zn compositon as a diffusion source. Junction depth was obtained as 4.6x10**7\ulcorner exp)-1.25/kT) where activation energy of diffusion was 1.25eV. From Boltzmann-matano analysis, it could be identified that concentration dependencies of Zn diffusivity well consisted with those of kick-out model. The ideality factor of p+-n junction formed by Zn diffusion was about 1.6 and infrared light intensity was linearly varied in the range of sixty folds. It is concluded frodm these results that Zn diffuses according to kick-out model, and open-tube method is applicable to compound semiconductor devices.

  • Nanocrystalline hydrogenated silicon (nc-Si : H) thin films were deposited at room temperature by plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD): a mixture of SiH₄ and H₂ gas was introduced into the evacuated reaction chamber. When the H₂ gas flow rate was low, the density of Si-H₃ bonds was high in the films. On the other hand, when the H₂ gas flow rate was high, e.g., 100 sccm, a large number of Si-H bonds contributed to the passivation of the surface of the large volume of Si nanocrystallites. The relative fraction of the Si-H₃ and Si-H₂ bonds in the amorphous matrix varied sensitively with the H₂ gas flow rate. The variation was associated with the change in the intensity as well as the wavelength of the main PL peaks, indicating the change in the total volume as well as the size of the Si nanocrystallites in the films.

  • Grinding of 3mol% Y-TZP enhanced the texturing of t-ZrO2, which is represented by the increased I(002)t/I(200)t peak intensity ratio, and an asymetric broadening of (111)t peak. The degree of texturing and asymetric broadening depended on a seversity of grinding. The asymetric (111)t peak broadening was resulted by the formation of r-ZrO2. When aged at 25$0^{\circ}C$ for 120h, r-ZrO2 transformed to t-ZrO2 due to the relief of stressed surface area and the amount of tlongrightarrowm transformation inversely varied with the I(002)t/I(200)t. The inverse dependence was interpreted by that the degree of texturing determines the magnitude of residual surface stress and the lattice relaxation of t-ZrO2, which causes the low temperature degradation, is retarded as the residual stress becomes greater.
