The study explored differences in variables related to academic achievement by profiles of learning strategies. The Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (Pintrich & DeGroot, 1990), the Test of Beliefs on Intelligence (Cho et al., 2004), the School Satisfaction Scale (Son, 1993; Taft, 1979) and Scales for Rating the Behavioral Characteristics of Superior Students (Renzulli et al., 2002) were administrated to 221 subjects in grade 6 (107 girls, 114 boys). Data were analyzed by cluster analysis and ANOVA. Results identified six different clusters; significant differences of variables related to academic achievement were found among the six clusters. Frequent use of various cognitive strategies plays an important role in higher academic achievement.
After-school activities of 817 7th grade children from Kwangju, Busan, and Kumi were studied to determine relations with (a) child, family and contextual variables (b) child's academic achievement and social development. Children were more likely to engage in extracurriculum activites and TV watching than other after-school activities. After-school activities were related to child's, parent's and contextual variables. Child's characteristics related to after-school activities were sex, impulse control, mastery and self-care. family's characteristics related to after-school activities were mother's employment, emotional support, control, monitoring and SES. Region and regional sagy were related to after-school activities. Some of after-school activities were related child's academic achievement and social development. Especially academic activites have a positive and powerful effects on child's academic achievement and social development.
In order to define their relative influence, this study analyzed causal relationships between academic achievement of elementary school students and such related variables as self-esteem and the psychological and economic environment of the home, including clarification of other significant variables affecting academic achievement. Participants were a sample of 485 5th grade students from 8 elementary schools in Busan. Correlation, analysis of covariance structure modeling, and model-fitness tests were applied to the data. Results indicated that the psychological environment of the home has the most significant influence on the academic achievement of children, and the economic environment of the home and self-esteem have relatively low or indirect influence.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship among self-efficacy, motivation proposed by self-determination theory and academic achievement and to confirm the relative predictive power of motivation variables in predicting 480 middle/high students' achievement. The instruments used in this study were 'Self-efficacy' and 'Self - regulation' scale. The data were analyzed with Pearson correlations and multiple regression (stepwised) analysis. The correlations among self-efficacy, self-determination motivation and academic achievement were significant. The variables among self-determination were correlated to academic achievement in middle school. Among the variables of self-determination motivation, identified regulation, Integrated regulation and intrinsic regulation were positively related to academic achievement in high school but amotivation was negatively related to academic achievement. Self-control efficacy and self-confidence were the significance predictor of academic achievement in middle school. Hard-task preference and self-control efficacy were the significance predictor of academic achievement in high school students. Introjected-regulation was the best predictor of academic achievement in middle school. Identified-regulation was the best predictor of academic achievement in high school.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the factors affecting the academic achievement of international students in degree programs in global education environment. Based on exploratory research, this study proposed four factors and examined effects of academic factors on academic satisfaction, effects of social factors on social adjustment, effects of cultural factors on cultural adaption, effects of economic factors on financial stability, and effects of four factors on academic achievement of international students. Research design, data, and methodology: This study conducted online survey to collect the data and results provide importance to increase interactivity between international students and teachers and between international students and hosting country's students. Results: The results of this study found what variables affect four proposed factors, while academic satisfaction significantly affects academic achievement rather than other factors. Conclusions: The results show how to improve academic related variables is key for the success of academic achievement. Results of this study provide implications which aspects should be considered to increase overall academic achievement by managing and improving the quality of higher education in global setting. This study provides managerial and policy implications for enhanced academic achievement of international students in global context.
The purpose of this study was to examine whether respondents showed gender differences in life- learning competency, self-directed learning ability, problem-solving ability, and academic achievement and to identify relationships among variables of university students in the context of higher education. To address those goal, the data set was analyzed that nationally collected from Korea Youth Competency Measurement and International Comparative Research III by National Youth Policy Institute in South Korea. 680 samples were used in the study that were 343 males and 337 females of university students. As results, statistically significant difference was showed in the participants' gender. Male university students were higher score than female university students in All variables. Also, learning agility in life-learning competency was strongly related to self-directed learning ability and problem-solving. Thinking skills in life-learning competency was strongly related to academic achievement in university students in higher education. In terms of learning strategy in the context of higher education, some suggestions have been made for university students.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine whether demographic and socio-economic characteristics, health behaviors and health status are related to academic achievement in Korean adolescents. Methods: Data from the 14th Korea Youth Risk Behaviors web-based Survey(KYRBWS) administered in 2018 were analyzed; 60,040 students in middle and high school participated in the survey. It was conducted frequency analysis, Rao-Scott chi-square test and multiple logistic regression analysis after adjusted for variables such as age, school grade. Results: The significant influencing factors on academic achievement were family economic status, living with parents, subjective health status, smoking experience, alcohol use experience, eating breakfast, sleeping, internet use during weekdays, depressive symptom(p<.001). The odds ratio for achieving higher academic achievement compared with those who never smoked was 1.50(p<.001). Conclusion: I found that students' undesirable health behaviors affect their academic performance. To improve academic achievement, I recommend intervention programmes such as school health promotion that reduce undesirable health related behaviors.

The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship among the self-directed learning ability, academic self-efficacy and academic achievement of elementary school students. The subjects of this study were 197 sixth graders. The results of this study were as follows. First, the correlations among self-directed learning ability, academic self-efficacy and academic achievement were significant. Second, among the variables of self-directed learning ability and academic self-efficacy, self-confidence, preference for task difficulty, self-understanding of learner and independent mind of learning were positively related to academic achievement. These results imply the need for measures to increase these variables of academic efficacy and self-directed learning ability in the field of education in order to improve students' academic achievement.
The purpose was to examine the factors related to subjective poor oral health in middle school and high school adolescents using data from '2019 Youth Health Behavior Online Survey'. Independent variables related to sociodemographic status and oral health related behaviors were the following:gender, grade, household economy, academic achievement, residence, frequency of daily and after lunch toothbrushing, smocking, alcohol, annual dental visit and preventive treatment. Almost all variables revealed a significant difference in poor oral health among boys and girls in school except resident area of girls and annual dental visit of boys. The odds ratios of subjective poor oral health were as follows:the highest ORs was subjective household economy and the second was frequency of daily toothbrushing in boys. The highest ORs was subjective household economy and the second was subjective academic achievement in girls.
