TCP, which was developed on the basis of wired links, supposes that packet losses are caused by network congestion. In a wireless network, however, packet losses due to data corruption occur frequently. Since TCP does not distinguish loss types, it applies its congestion control mechanism to non-congestion losses as well as congestion losses. As a result, the throughput of TCP is degraded. To solve this problem of TCP over wireless links, previous researches, such as split-connection and end-to-end schemes, tried to distinguish the loss types and applied the congestion control to only congestion losses; yet they do nothing for non-congestion losses. We propose a novel transport protocol for wireless networks. The protocol called VS-TCP (Variable Segment size Transmission Control Protocol) has a reaction mechanism for a non-congestion loss. VS-TCP varies a segment size according to a non-congestion loss rate, and therefore enhances the performance. If packet losses due to data corruption occur frequently, VS-TCP decreases a segment size in order to reduce both the retransmission overhead and packet corruption probability. If packets are rarely lost, it increases the size so as to lower the header overhead. Via simulations, we compared VS-TCP and other schemes. Our results show that the segment-size variation mechanism of VS-TCP achieves a substantial performance enhancement.
This paper proposes a recursive localized Normalized Mutual Information(NMI) algorithm to overcome shortcomings of the conventional NMI algorithm and the localized NMI algorithm which proposed before. The localized NMI algorithm divides images into few fixed size segments and applies NMI algorithm to each segments. By extension, the proposed algorithm uses variable size segments using its characteristic. Dividing each segment recursively, the algorithm selects a suitable segment size and improves a performance of the image registration. Experimental result shows the performance of the proposed algorithm.

A novel segment type switched reluctance motor (SRM) as a rare-earth-less motor is proposed. The torque was increased by 40% and the radial force was decreased by 76% compared with the same size usual variable reluctance (VR) type SRM. Increasing the average torque, however, caused increasing torque ripple. In this paper we develop a 4-phase segment type SRM and show that the torque ripple can be decreased well.
최근 HTTP 적응적 스트리밍 서비스의 표준인 DASH(Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP)를 기반으로 하는 비디오 스트리밍 서비스의 QoE(Quality of Experience) 향상을 위해 비디오 품질 조절 기법들이 연구되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 세그먼트 특성을 기반으로 품질을 조절하는 SC-DASH(Segment Characteristics-based DASH)를 제안한다.
This paper proposes a novel video delivery scheme that reduces the bandwidth consumption cost from a video server to terminals in Long-Term Evolution networks. This proposed scheme combines optimized hybrid multicast with a segment-based caching strategy for use in environments where the maximum number of multicast channels is limited. The optimized hybrid multicast, allocation of multicast channels, and cache allocation are determined on the basis of a video's request rate, the related video's length, and the variable cost per unit size of a segment belonging to the related video. Performance evaluation results show that the proposed scheme reduces a video's delivery costs. This work is applicable to on-demand TV services that feature asynchronous video content requests.
Because of explosive growth in demand for web-based multimedia applications, proper proxy caching for large multimedia object (especially video) has become needed. For a video object which is much larger in size and has different access characteristics than the traditional web object such as image and text, caching the whole video file as a single web object is not efficient for the proxy cache. In this paper, we propose a proxy caching strategy with the constant-sized segment for video file and an improved proxy cache replacement policy. Through the event-driven simulation under various conditions, we show that our proposal is more efficient than the variable-sized segment strategy which has been proven to have higher hit ratio than other traditional proxy cache strategies.
As the size and the diversity of the beauty industry grow, the need for systematic marketing strategy in beauty shop also increases. This study aims at finding 1)how to segment the market of beauty industry based on lifestyle variable and 2)how to set up the corresponding mix strategy on target market. The case of 'B beauty shop' shows that the validity of lifestyle-based segementation model is verified as the shop has posted a drastic financial outcome during last 5 years. In addition, this study implies that the corelation research between lifestyle variables and marketing mix strategy should be included as an important factor in launching a beauty-related business in segmented market.
최근 HTTP 기반 비디오 스트리밍 트래픽이 계속해서 증가함에 따라 HTTP 기반 적응적 스트리밍(HTTP-based Adaptive Streaming : HAS) 기술 중 하나인 DASH(Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP)가 주목받고 있다. 본 논문에서는 뉴로 퍼지 시스템의 구조 중 하나인 ANFIS(Adaptive Network based Fuzzy Inference System)를 이용한 새로운 품질 조절 기법을 제안한다.
C-DASH (Content Characteristics based Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP)
