Location Efficiencies of Host Countries for Strategic Offshoring Decisions Amid Wealth Creation Opportunities and Supply Chain Risks

  • Purpose - Offshoring has emerged as one of the major trends in international trade and has become one of the strategies for achieving competitiveness in the global market. In spite of this, the expected gains of offshoring can be offset by hidden costs and risks, such as those associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, the trade war between the USA and China, and the ongoing trade dispute between Korea and Japan. To obviate such business failure and prevent critical business blunders, offshoring strategies that efficiently consider both risk elements and potential wealth creation are urgently need. The first purpose of this study is to contribute to the development of more advanced offshoring strategies to help host countries select the best locations to manage supply chain risks and create unique value. The second purpose is to specifically analyze the current status of Korea and provide Korean companies with implications to be considered when deciding whether to offshore or re-shore. Design/methodology - A Network DEA model was applied to measure the comparative location efficiency of national competencies for offshoring strategy from perspectives of wealth creation opportunities (profitability and marketability) and supply chain risk management. The location efficiencies are compared among a total 70 countries selected from the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) and globally attractive locations outlined by Kearney (2017). For the secondary analysis of efficiency, a t-test examining the nature of competitive advantage and the level of sophistication in production processes was implemented in three divisions. We then analyzed differences in offshoring performance in terms of the identified national traits. Moreover, Tobit regression analysis is conducted to investigate the correlation between value-added business activities and each divisional efficiency, seeking to determine how each degree of value-added business activity influences the increase in offshoring productivity. Findings - Regarding overall location efficiency for offshoring performance, only the USA and Italy were identified as being efficient as host countries for offshoring, under circumstances of advanced development, such as productivity and risk management. Korea ranks 13th among 70 countries. The determinants of national competitiveness depend on national traits (the nature of competitive advantage and business sophistication). Countries with labor/resource advantages and labor-intensive industries are more competitive in terms of marketability than others. In contrast, countries with strong technology-intensive industries benefit offshoring companies, particularly in the technology sector, with the added advantage of supply chain risk management. As the perception of a value chain is broader in a country, it can achieve both production sophistication and competitive advantages such as marketability and SCRM. Originality/value - Existing studies focus on offshoring effectiveness from a company perspective. This paper contributes to comparing country efficiency in producing core competencies related to an offshoring strategy and also segments countries into three performance-based considerations associated with the global offshoring market. It also details Korea's position as an offshoring location according to national efficiency and competency.

  • This paper suggests a new modulation strategy for step pulse type multi-level inverter. The proposed strategy is simple to determine the switching angles without regard to increase of levels. Designed to extract the equivalent RMS value compared to ideal sine wave from inverter, it can be applied effectively to high level step pulse inverter. Also this paper proposed modulation strategy for modified H-bridge 13 level inverter which has different cell source voltages with simulation and experiment. The modulation characteristics from simulation and experiment, agreed very well with tracing sine wave about modified structure of cascaded H-bridge multi-level inverter.

  • A knowledge-based system with fuzzy production rules is a representation of static knowledge of an expert. On the other hand, a real system such as the stock market is dynamic in nature. Therefore we need a strategy to reflect the dynamic nature of real system when we make inferences with a knowledge-based system. This paper proposes a strategy of dynamic inferencing for a knowledge-based system with fuzzy production rules. The strategy suggested in this paper applies weights of attributes of conditions of a rule in the knowledge-base. A degree of match(DM) between actual input information and a condition of a rule is represented by a value [0,1]. Weights of relative importance of attributes in a rule are obtained by AHP(Analytic Hierarcy Process) method. Then these weights are applied as exponents for the DM, and the DMs in a rule are combined, with MIN operator, into a single DM for the rule. In this way, overall DM for a rule changes depending on the importance of attributes of the rule. As a result, the dynamic nature of a real system can be incorporated in an inference with fuzzy production rules.

  • Numerous proposals for extending the relational data model as well as conceptual and object-oriented data models have been suggested. However, there has been relatively less research in the area of defining segmented storage structure and data migration strategies for temporal data. This paper presents the segmented storage structure in order to increment search performance and the two data migration strategies for segmented storage structure. this paper presents the two data migration strategies : the migration strategy by Time granularity, the migration strategy by LST-GET. In the migration strategy by Time Granularity, the dividing time point to assign the entity versions to the past segment, the current segment, and future segment is defined and the searching and moving process for data validity at a granularity level are described. In the migration strategy by LST-GET, we describe the process how to compute the value of dividing criterion. searching and moving processes are described for migration on the future segment and the current segment and entity versions 새 assign on each segment are defined. We simulate the search performance of the segmented storage structure in order to compare it with conventional storage structure in relational database system. And extensive simulation studies are performed in order to compare the search performance of the migration strategies with the segmented storage structure.

  • UPFC(Unified Power Flow Controller) consists of two voltage sourced converter(VSC)s inserted into AC system through series and parallel coupling transformer, where two VSCs are linked by capacitor at DC-side. Since VSC acts as an AC voltage source behind a reactance, where both magnitude and phase angle of the source are controllable, UPFC can be represented by the equation related to input-output relation of two VSCs. Voltage control of DC-link capacitor provides the path of real power flow between two VSCs. While UPFC is controlled for maintaining the given reference value in steady state, it should be controlled for damping power oscillation in dynamics. For such a control objective, the control strategy based on the energy function was proposed and has been shown to be effect and robust for damping power oscillation of power system. In this paper, UPFC model based on the VSC was analysed and applied to power-flow control and stability analysis. The control strategy based on the energy function is adopted for damping power oscillation of power system. The effectiveness of proposed control strategy was verified by simulation study

  • One of the major issues in emerging cloud management system needs the efficient service level agreement negotiation framework, with an optimal negotiation strategy. Most researchers focus mainly on the atomic service negotiation model, with the assistance of the Agent Controller in the broker part to reduce the total negotiation time, and communication overhead to some extent. This research focuses mainly on composite service negotiation, to further minimize both the total negotiation time and communication overhead through the pre-request optimization of broker strategy. The main objective of this research work is to introduce an Automated Dynamic Service Level Agreement Negotiation Framework (ADSLANF), which consists of an Intelligent Third-party Broker for composite service negotiation between the consumer and the service provider. A broker consists of an Intelligent Third-party Broker Agent, Agent Controller and Additional Agent Controller for managing and controlling its negotiation strategy. The Intelligent third-party broker agent manages the composite service by assigning its atomic services to multiple Agent Controllers. Using the Additional Agent Controllers, the Agent Controllers manage the concurrent negotiation with multiple service providers. In this process, the total negotiation time value is reduced partially. Further, the negotiation strategy is optimized in two stages, viz., Classified Similarity Matching (CSM) approach, and the Truncated Negotiation Group Gale Shapely Stable Matching (TNGGSSM) approach, to minimize the communication overhead.

  • TOEM strategy is widely used in Japan and Korea because of the diverse advantages such as cost sharing, technology transfer, equipment lease and base technology acquisition between parent company and OEM supplier. There are, however, some disadvantages that (1)OEM suppliers are likely to be reactive to environmental changes and (2) may have difficulty in building competitive position and long-term growth. When the parent company relocates its plant to foreign countries to achieve lower labor cost or to enhance value added this change will affect directly the OEM supplier's outcome. The parent company's divestiture from existing businesses will also affect the OEM supplier. For the OEM supplier to survive in face of these strategic changes it must enter the new countries with the parent company. Alternatively, the OEM supplier must actively diversify its technologies based on its core capabilities of existing product and process technologies and seek new business arenas. The strategy of aligning its businesses with the parent company's new business strategy allows the OEM supplier to share the new market while it requires the OEM supplier to develop core capabilities. In Korea many small and medium sized OEM suppliers are dependent on a few large companies. For the industry structure in Korea where industry concentration is extremely high OEM suppliers should move away from the past strategy, where they are dependent on the parent company's low profitability businesses. They should actively enter new businesses for which parent companies enter to achieve long-term growth.

A basic course of contents development is the element which is well-being to be able to let you increase health and high value-added article development. A development strategy must be accompanied with a story in representative well-being and must develop the contents that can be full of character of multipurpose not a story for an article and in consideration of a last article form and develop feasible contents. Lastly, direct profit and participation must be guaranteed by local inhabitants.

  • This paper examines to focus on General Strategy of e-logistics activity for SCM(Supply Chain Management) Build-up, especially the field service logistics integration. And this research analyzes the case study(Business of Strategy Group Unit) Survey involving effective logistics management that leads customer satisfaction, seeking to find out the key elements of competitive policy. Because problems arise from the differences between their goals and structures, which cause each side to feel vulnerable to opportunism or shirking of responsibilities by the other. The goal of a logistics system is to ensure that every family planning client always receives the contraceptives partner wants, and that they are in good condition and have not expired. In order to select, procure, and distribute the right quantities of the right contraceptives, managers of the logistics system must keep informed of the rates of use of each contraceptive and of the quantity of available supplies. As a result, We propose that a firm's e-logistics safe strategy is an important locus innovation and a crucial source of value creation for the firm its suppliers, partners, and customers.

  • Recently cosmetic enterprises make rapid progress try to make well-known brands to perceive an image marketing. As the result, the brand's reliability continues to grow, beyond a medium of expression in two-dimensional, but through tridimensional, on brand's image runs strategies. Each cosmetic brand shops' image of segmentation strategy has an effect on individual organizations and designs. As of today in Korea, cosmetic brand shop's designs, start to appear in the late 2000,will try to fine segmentation strategy for strengthen shop's image and research about unique quality of cosmetic brand shops into consumer orientation space, and make the best of significant prepare on the basis of directions for cosmetic brand shop which have ability to function as cultural facilities.
